      Isn’t that the whole point of these jigs, spend a day or 2 making the perfect jig and then only remember you have it at the tail end of a dozen drawers that’ve given you 7 different types of hell to get square?

    I need to make one of these soon. On the fixing of gaps, have you tried making a paste of the wood flour and whatever finish you intend to use? Sometimes, CA glue works well also. In truth, I was waiting for you to line that dust up and grab a straw...

      I’ve tried all sorts most don’t take finish or stain or both, the gel I use is the best I’ve found so far, it’s ready to sand very quickly sands quickly and takes finish/stain but is slightly off colour like them all, such as life…

    • @HewAndAwe
      @HewAndAwe  3 роки тому

      Hi vww1, cant believe thats your first name, feels weird calling you that 😆 My choice is the Tite-Mark, although about twice the price of the Veritas. I do like Veritas tools and have quite a few of them. But I can't get on with the mechanism(s) to dial the tool into a hair, and I find just a bump and its out. I'm under no sponsorship or the likes to say what I'm saying, just a guy who likes things to work perfectly and simply. Anyway, hope youre well, hope you have a lovely weekend - be-lucky, Ben.

    You do incredible work, and you're obviously unafraid of taking on the work of manually creating your dovetails. Why do you not use dovetail router guides?

    • @HewAndAwe
      @HewAndAwe  2 роки тому

      Thank you Alan, I do and dont, if it were work that has to go out the door fast I'd prefer to machine them for lots or reasons, but if money wasnt a clients issue Id be hand cut all day.. the short answer is by hand gives me a break from my head/brain and grounds me, this goes either way satisfaction or rage but by hand theres more satisfaction. Hope that makes sense?

    • @alanpecherer5705
      @alanpecherer5705 2 роки тому +1

      @@HewAndAwe It does make sense, and is an interesting insight as well as a great answer.
      As one who has done modest amounts of woodworking and metalworking for many years, I'm sure I don't have to tell you that those last 2 or 3 levels of precision are not easy to attain. You really do have to have (eg; invest in & pay for) the high end chisels and you're gonna wreck some pricey lumber along the way. And you either do or do not have the requisite patience, there's no way around that. Once I began framing houses, I could no longer summon the patience to cut dovetails or even try. I'm no purist. These days, if I can't slam it together with deck screws, I'm hardly interested in even starting!
