  • In this custom guitar project, I transform a bass guitar from its original form to the vision I came to with the client. Stephen Flam's first band was Winter:

    When we talked about making a new custom guitar, we discussed getting one exactly set up for his preferences and he got this new Warwick 5 string bass. I customized the guitar to the new design.

    Absolutely gorgeous. Hats off there Mr. Diresta, real work of art.
    Especially like the soft corners on the pickups. The contrast of beautiful wood and hard steel is great.
    Very apocalyptic.

      Somebody spent hours designing and building a precision instrument - then Jimmy tore it down and added weight. 🤦

    When I first started watching this video I was like oh my gosh what are you doing to a perfectly good bass guitar? Then watching it come together and seeing the final product I'm like wow that is killer! :-). Nice job dude

    The musician side of me is screaming "NOOOO" and "Oh geez, be careful there that's gotta be precise!" through this whole thing. The DiResta viewing side of me is saying "yeah, hit it with the little hammer!"

    Absolutely amazing, from the experience to know welding over this wood guitar will be fine, to placing screws to hold the sides evenly by eye. And, of course, you can play the bass.

    I can't believe I never thought of drilling a hole before using a router to avoid having to use a plunge cut.

      I actually tilt the router a little And rock back and forth with it until I reach the depth

    That bass is SO COOL!!! This is perhaps my favorite project of yours yet. As a bass player, I'd LOVE to have something like that. You transformed a decent, but boring instrument into a piece of artwork. Absolutely amazing.

    I think it would have been cool to have heated the steel and let it burn the wood so that it looked like the steel was engulfing the guitar with molten fury. Of course that is the beauty of art we can all have different ideas. :-) Nicely done as always!

Best reason why I subscribed is watching the way you go about things while building that most people would never think of weather its glueing, cutting, sanding... etc

    The contrast between the liquid ripple of the hardwood and the ripped up metal wrapping is like opening a big green spiky chestnut burr and seeing the deep smooth brown of the nut within.

    I'm not going to lie, sometimes I am too opinionated after watching some videos on UA-cam but in this case I can only marvel at the craftsmanship and the fact that it's all free-hand with no over-engineered measuring or milling machine setups.
    Beautiful job and awesome transformation, it went from dull to a piece of art, I'm actually jealous of your skill, if you weren't a Yankee you would be 100% perfect Jimmy. LOL
    Come down South we would love to have you and we don't say that much down here. :)
