Disgraced pro football quarterback Paul Crewe (Adam Sandler) lands in jail, where manipulative Warden Hazen (James Cromwell) recruits him to advise the institution's team. This turns into a lead role quarterbacking a crew of inmates in a game against a team of prison guards. Aided by incarcerated ex-NFL coach Nate Scarborough (Burt Reynolds), Crewe and his team must overcome not only the bloodthirstiness of the opposition, but also the corrupt officials trying to fix the game against them.

Bill Goldberg is a Pro Wrestler from WCW and later did some stuff with WWE. He is the guy in the shower whose shlong is supposed big enough to kill the guard with if he hit him over the head with it.
The Great Khali was a pro wrestler from WWE he was the giant freak one with the chiseled jaw
And Stone Cold Steve Austin was a Pro wrestler with WWE who played one of the guards. Bald guy
I find it funny how this movie was released on the same day as Madagascar, which Chris Rock also starred in. The Longest Yard and Madagascar were even positioned at number two and number three respectively at the weekend box office, where Revenge of the Sith won that weekend.

I remember that now! I remember my family and cousin's family were supposed to go watch Madagascar, but we got our moms to change their minds and saw this movie instead
That explains why Chris’s character was killed in the second act of the film.
Burt Reynolds was playing [Paul Crewe] in the original Longest Yard movie. For him to be back as the coach and join the game at the end was one heck of a throwback.

“Can’t we all just get along” - Rodney King, his response during the Rodney King riots. It’s been quoted so many times particularly by comedy outlets.
It's depressing that now it only remembered incorrectly as joke movie quotes. 😞

These two are one of the worst reaction people out there. Don't even know that it was a Rodney King quote, that quote is basically a pop culture phenomenon.
Fun fact: In the original 1974 movie, the bomb was triggered by the light switch in Crewe's cell. That's why the camera hangs on the frame of Caretaker turning on the light with so much suspense. They called back to the original movie as a misdirect.
It was gasonline, or possibly kerosene, injected into the lightbulb. It was meant for Crewe, but Caretaker is the one who ends up triggering it.
7:25 This is not taking from Shawshank. This is taking from _The Longest Yard_ from 1974. It predates The Shawshank Redemption by 20 years.
It's actually a remarkably faithful remake. Even shares a surprising number of the same cast members.
That's what I was gonna say lol. How could they take stuff from movies, when the original Longest Yard came out way before those. On top of that, a lot of the prisons scenes are modeled after actual prison, not other movies of what prison is like
One little twist they added was how Caretaker died. In the original movie, the lightbulb that Caretaker switched on blew up. That's why they emphasized so much on it in the remake.
This is supported by WWE films, along with their WWE hall of famers. Stone cold Steve Austin, Kevin Nash, Bill Goldberg and great khali.

Khali was in this before he debuted in the WWE. He worked very hard at learning his few lines in English and reportedly was upset when they still used subtitles for him

Ah yes the remake with the WWE wrestlers in it, was a nice bit of silly fun, also not often you can say that Adam Sandler was in a remake of a Burt Reynolds film with Burt Reynolds, Chris Rock, Terry Crews, Nelly, James Cromwell, William Fichtner, Rob Schneider, a bunch of ex-American Football Players and Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kevin Nash, Goldberg and the Great Khali
You don't go from a legend like Burt Reynolds to a hack actor like Adam Sandler. Sandler has gotten better but this was during that period of his career where he played the same annoying character in every role.

This movie is comedy gold for Adam Sandler. So many great cast in this.
If he got the chair three times, that means he was convicted of at least three separate capital crimes. Believe it or not there's actually legal precedent that if you electrocute someone in the electric chair, and they survive, you can't do it again. It would be a violation of double-jeopardy.

To be fair, The Longest Yard came out first. This is a remake of a 70-80's movie. And Shawshank Redemption didn't come out until Late 90's-Early Naughts.
The “can’t we all just get along” line is reference to Rodney King going on tv during the LA riots and trying to get them to stop rioting. Famous for saying “can’t we all just get along”
Caretaker dying always made me cry so much!
Also, I don't really think this aged poorly compared to other movies bc it still touches on so many relevant things to today's times.
Kinda disappointed no one pointed out that Michael Irvin is in this movie. Also the fact that the pro wrestling guys are amazing in this. All 4 of them
Fun fact, the guy with the beanie who played Adam Sandler in the basketball 1 on 1 is a 3-time Super Bowl champion. His real name is Michael Irvin, he played for my favorite football team: the Dallas Cowboys.
This was actually based on a true story when the prison got closed down and the governor was imprisoned for misconduct

Fun fact The longest Yard is actually a remake of another move called The longest Yard back from 1974 the actor that plays Nate Scarborough the coach started in the original as Paul crew Adam Sandler's character now he's back as the coach you can say he went full circle R.I.P. Burt Reynolds you are an amazing actor.
Adam Sandler also shines in Mr. Deeds, That's My Boy and Pixels. The prison secretary is played by the legendary Cloris Leachman. I highly recommend watching the American Pie franchise

You got Romantic Comedy with 50 first dates or I guess it would be Dark Comedy or maybe just Adult Comedy in Little Nicky, kind of twisted comedy in his holiday animated movie 8 Crazy Nights, and a lot of great movies like Mr Deeds, Big Daddy, That's my Boy, his name sakes that his production company is named after Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison combined to creat his company Happy Madison production. Plus a number of other good films. Pixels.

Actually Shawshank took from this movie. This is a remake of an 1974 film of the same name that Burt Reynolds starred in. The inmate Turley (big guy that got the chair multiple times) was a cop back in India. Man I’d hate to break the law with him around. The hit that Burt Reynolds takes near the end of the game really happened. He wanted to do the stunt and them carrying him off was real he needed the assistance off so they just left it in the movie.

This is my favorite Adam Sandler comedy. I will never forget when I saw it in the cinema. The audience was so excited at the end of the game that there was popcorn flying, people screaming and clapping like it was a real stadium. I loved your reaction. Had fun watching this

Interesting fact: the majority of the actors that played the prison guards and the referees are actually real life former NFL football players, also real life WWF/WWE wrestlers Goldberg, Stone Cold Steve Austin and the Great Khali all appear in this movie Goldberg(the one recruited in the Showers scene) and the Great Khali(the Giant prisoner) as to of the prisoners and Stone Cold Steve Austin(the harassing guard from the Library) as one of the guards.

I joined the football team for 2 month's, Due to the coach seeing my size and a friend on the team vouching i was stronger than him. They were the best guys I have ever had the pleasure to play with. Most supportive group I had ever been in, in my whole life. I had never had anyone cheer me on more than them. One more Rep!!! One more Drill!!! You can do it!!! I Believe in you!!! I had never heard those words in my life let alone from people my age... I literally cried when I told the coach that I had to quit due to not having a ride from home to practice... The Coach hugged me and said, I understand if you ever want to come back we have a spot for you.
This doesn’t feed off Shawshank really. The original Longest Yard staring Burt Reynolds was in 1974 while Shawshank was in 1994. Also the original Longest Yard football game was far more violent

The comment about the Shawshank Redemption, is the other way around, this movie is a remake from the 1974 version starring Burt Reynolds (the coach in this movie), and The Shawshank Redemption is from 1994, 20 years later.

My favorite character in the Longest Yard is Switowski because he’s a gentle giant who has the heart of a little kid but still lovable and clothesline racist pricks like Dunham to the ground and makes them shit themselves.

13:44 You're right, that was Bill Goldberg, who was a huge wrestler in the 90s and 2000s. There's actually a few pro athletes in this movie. Switowski is played by pro MMA fighter Bob Sapp, and Turley is played by Indian wrestler The Great Khali.
Deacon, the inmates' wide receiver, is played by Michael Irvin, one of the NFL's all-time great receivers. His jersey number in this movie is even the same one he wore for the Dallas Cowboys, number 88.

Funny or sad thing about Swatowski the Gentle Giant as you called him, is that he's a former kickboxer and MMA fighter who has thrown many fights. He's basically Paul Crewe
"Can't we all just get along" is not a reference any movie, though it's been done to death in movies. It's in reference to the Rodney King LA Riots. King was beaten down by several cops with billy clubs and the cops were found not guilty. It sparked a huge riot in LA and massive unrest trough out the US. During the riots, King made a TV appearance trying to calm folks saying "Can't we all just get along"
