Finally, an Alabama girl making these! I've only seen The Farming Pastor's Wife (from NC) make these with saltines. I noticed you only ate 1/2 a cracker--they must be really spicy to be called Firecrackers!

You can also use saltines crackers to make these TIP I mix everything up in one cup then pour it in the bag. I use canola oil Easy that way

A guest brought these to a dinner. I am so glad to find this recipe. I do wonder if sunflower oil would work. Wish me luck. And thanks again.

Think smoking them for 10 minutes would knock them out of the park. Thanks for a good starting spot.

I think I’m going to try this, but I may change seasoning.I’m not fond of Italian seasoning. I might try mixing garlic, onion powder, maybe ranch powder, and the pepper flakes! Thanks for giving me ideas!

Use ranch seasoning instead and then bake them at 350 for ten mins... let cool then enjoy. That way you dont have to wait 24 hrs to eat them

I've seen this made with butter instead of oil and it was baked. I hope that way works too, I just don't want them to burn.

I used the method everyone else uses...the bag...so I dont have to use the oven. I always preferred buttery crackers over saltines, but the oil doesnt absorb into the crackers for some reason. I just dont know why...especially when they have holes just like saltines. However, if you get the ingredients right, everything will be okay. To be specific, I use only 2 sleeves of saltine crackers per 1 gallon ziploc bag. Recipes ask for 4 sleeves, but 2 sleeves allow the ingredients to get between each cracker when you rotate the bag. Also, use 1 pack of your ranch dressing powder pack, sprinkles of liquid smoke (I use about 1 tsp), 1 tsp cayenne pepper, and 5oz vegetable oil. It's up to you to add or reduce the spices. Liquid smoke is my secret ingredient...it gives it a great, smoky flavor!! After experimenting, this was the best method. Also, once the crackers absorbed the oils, I transferred them to a different bag to make it feel more clean & there was never any oil feeling against the sides of the bag! I hope it all works out for you. I'm ready to go back to WM for more ranch packs (and also for crushed red peppers b/c I didnt have any). Maybe the cayenne pepper was better (or maybe use both). Let me know how it goes.

Why does the recipe using saltine crackers say to bake them in the oven for 15 minutes and this one doesn't?
