  • I apologize for having the camera turned the wrong way! My mistake.
    Fire Crackers
16 oz. box Saltine or Zesta Crackers ( 4 sleeves )
    1 2/3 cups oil
    1 teaspoon garlic powder
    1 teaspoon onion powder
    2 tablespoons Ranch dressing mix
    2 tablespoons red pepper flakes
    1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Place all ingredients except crackers into a gallon zippered bag. Seal tightly then combine everything together until well blended. Make sure onion and garlic powders have dissolved. Add all the crackers, seal tightly, and gently turn the bag over and over to coat every cracker. Turn the bag every ten minutes for an hour. Make sure every cracker gets coated. Allow to sit for several hours until all the liquid is absorbed.
Great to serve with soups or stews, or alone as a snack.

1 if you will use a 2 gallon ziplock you can get the oil and spices more evenly and if you make them with the Mini Premium Saltines, use the same amount of everything except use 2 full boxes of the mini crackers. Great as an appetizer!

@@lindafox1454Hi. I don't think anyone answered, and I just saw your comment/question. I've made some different cracker recipes that call for coating in one spice mixture or another, and from my own experience, I would say remove from bag and place in another type of airtight container. Unless you're using seriously heavy-duty freezer type zipper bags, they're pretty porous and may allow the crackers to go stale in a shorter time.

These sound delicious... and addicting! I agree with the people advocating a 2 gallon bag. But also, to make mixing the spices and oil easier, why not add them directly to the oil in the measuring cup and then pouring that over the crackers in the bag? Better distribution and no spices hiding in the corners of the bag.

What an interesting Dish! 😊 I wonder how they would be with the spices mixed in the oil mixture and the oil spice mixture brushed on the crackers and baked. I love the idea of this. I bet they would be wonderful with a little Parmesan added and a splash of vinegar. I will have fun experimenting with this one. For some reason parsley sound good on it as well. And of course I'll try your all's version first. This one looks fun!

I'm going to have to stop keeping saltines in the house or I'll continue making these, and I don't need the calories. I took bags of them to my family to try at Christmas and they loved them too. I decreased the oil just a bit to 1-1/2 cups and, because I like spicy foods, increased all the other ingredients to my liking. OMG!!! I don't have to have them with anything. They're so good all by themselves.

I agree... these are the best crackers in the world. try this dip to go along with them. We call it "crack dip". It can be doubled, tripled, etc. Serve hot or cold. Let me know how you like it!
    Ingredients:
1 pound breakfast sausage, such as Jimmy Dean (hot or mild)
1 (10-oz) can Rotel diced tomatoes and green chilies, undrained
1 (8-oz) package cream cheese, cut into pieces
    Instructions:
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook sausage until crumbled and no longer pink. Drain. Add Rotel and cream cheese to skillet. Stir until cheese melts.
Serve warm with tortilla chips or even better, serve with Fire Crackers!!

I have a tip for your bag, if you just turn the top of the bag down to the outside all the way around and the bag will stand up better.
Thank you I enjoy your table! 😊

I do something similar with pretzels.
I mix all the spices and oil together in a large measuring cup and mix with a small wisk.
I put the pretzels, or crackers in a large mixing bowl and start pouring the oil mixture over them, stirring them carefully with a spatula to make sure all are coated evenly. Once they are covered, I put them in another container with a lid or large ziplok bag(s).

Ok these were great as is, but I decided to put some on a cookie rack and baked at 375 for 4 minutes and they were even better! A hit with everyone who's tried them and, as you said a great snack at the end of the work day! Also great with the homemade beer cheese my neighbor makes!

I’m very unhappy with you! I’m supposed to be watching my calories and how can I do that with a bag of these crackers in my house? The recipe was just odd enough that I had to make it. I didn’t anticipate them tasting so good. Hubby and I can’t resist them. Thanks for the recipe. Greetings from Canada!

Hey Tom and Melissa, wanted to ask you what to do when the crackers are done mixing in the bag, do you normally let them stay in that same bag, or do you put them in another container or something? Dont want that to sound crazy but had to ask. Also, how long do they need to sit before you eat them? Thank you and love your channel.
