    That is how attraction works, two people with same passion but different approaches, at the end they will be ended up at one point together.
    Classic love story, started by small coincidences, disliking each other but thinking about it over and over, then ended up with giving up the ego and embracing what you really want.

      I don't think Frederich ever disliked Jo in this film. There was always love in his eyes when he looked at Jo. It was love at first sight for him.

      I think in the book they didn’t end up together. Maybe thats why they didn’t really bother that much showing how she fell for him.

    i wish they showed more scenes where we can see jo sort of falling for him. the 1994 adaptation showed that more than this movie did. this one they kind of speed it up.

      This film is chop sue basically, fragments of a story in complete disorder, if I didn't see the previous versions, I would not have known what is going on, the 2018 version which was completely terrible did this as well.

      but in this version, jo did not fall for him. you can see the different hues used after jo closed the door and before running after him. jo added that in the book but at the very last scene, they never made any contact to indicate they are together irl. i think he just taught at her school 🤷‍♀️

      In this version they stick to Louisa May Alcott wanting to leave Jo alone. As a single unmarried author, so the Professor Bhaer stuff is not so romantic. They just alluded to their relationship really.

      @@mm4843 LMA wanted to end the novel with Jo being unmarried. In Jo she wanted to present a female character who des not give importance to marriage. The publishes weren't happy with this and made her give Jo a love interest. Honestly, Jo and Bhaer are such a beautifully matched couple so I prefer the ending LMA was essentially forced to write.

      You should read my Friedrich essay www.fairychamber.com/blog/evolution-of-friedrich-bhaer just my opinion, the 1949 Friedrich is my favorite together with the book Fritz. I could have loved Louis Garrel but Greta Gerwig is really anti-Friedrich and didn´t do any research which is a shame.

    If you read Louisa's letter exchange with her publisher she was the one who came up with all the marriages. Friedrichs character in little women is based on philosopher Henry Thoreau Louisa was in love with him. Laurie is based on Ladislas Wisniewski a young man who was first flirting with Louisa and then betrayed him. In all of Louisa's novels these two male archetypes are constantly present. The Friedrich archetype is the humble hard working man (Fritz in lw, Mac in Rose in Bloom, David in Work) He has silent passion for the protagonist and the Louisa type of protagonist loves him and wants that equal relationship. Laurie archetype is charming but idle. He either puts his act together and falls for a female character (like Amy) who is stern with them or they fail and fet sucked into consuming toxic self-harming behavior. Little Women is all about Louisa's love life. That is why she had conflicted relationship towards it. Henry was 16 years older (same age difference than between Louisa and the professor) Ladislas was 10 years younger. Louisa and Henry, They did have an affair and almost a telepathic way of communication which is also present in the novels. Henry passed away 5years before LW was published. That is also why Louisa listed out to be nurse in the war. He had lost her sister Lizzie at the same time.

      I think the ending with the family all together including Friedrich is real. The under the umbrella scene may have been exaggerated for the publisher, but I definitely think they ended up together. Why would Greta include the love at first sight scene where Jo and him meet if they didn't end up together?

      They didn’t. The story is semi autobiographical, so Jo is Louisa May Alcott. She made Jo get married to please her audience and so it would sell. But she never did get married, it was a fictional ending so she could make the money she needed. Breaks my heart, but it’s true. It’s the ending she needed for her story, but not the one she wanted.

    While I love Saiorse, I think the 1994 version did a much better job at capturing the intellectual connection Jo had with the professor. This just has them acting like high schoolers. They don't sound eloquent here. Which is important because the reason their relationship works is because he offers the mind connection that she doesn't have with Laurie. Also the idea that her sisters had to tell her to chase him at the end was cringey. It didn't align with Jo's fiery independence. And what's with the gushing about his looks? Do you guys think that Jo cares at all about conventional ideas like looks, money and charm? Her priorities are character and intelligence.

      Mis Yana I agree with you! I had the same thoughts after watching it and compering with the 1994 version. As you pointed so well there is no mind / intellectual connection between them and I was quite surprised they chose such a handsome and youthful looking guy as Friedrich .

    • @sangredelangel
      @sangredelangel 4 роки тому +4

      The swift change in tone to romcom was the transition from her life to the book. Her editor was very clear her heroine had to get married for her to be published so she “complied”. The ending was very ambiguous on purpose.

    • @miayana2539
      @miayana2539 4 роки тому +3

      @@sangredelangel And I think the 2019 version was a bit of a catty interpretation of how she went about it. The editors insisted that Jo be married - yes. And Louisa certainly 'complied'. But her answer was in defiance to the Jo-Laurie shipping. She chose to create someone worthy of Jo and allow her to find love. This version assumes a bad attitude and tries to spite that decision as well. It paints Louisa in a poor light suggesting that she'd resort to immature writing just because she didn't get her way.

      I agree with you. I find the intellectual connection between Jo and Bhaer to be better in the 1994 version. This one...I'm unsure. Bhaer in the newest version is also depicted younger (ahem) and less mature than I expected.

      2 endings were offered by Greta Gerwig. The original ending from the book and the alternate ending where Jo March's character actually became Louisa May Alcott (who never got married). So take your pick.

    They did not end up together. At the end of the movie, the whole “chasing after him” and Jo getting married is a fantasy and fictional portrayal of what happened in the book that Jo is writing. In reality, Jo is not married, but a single successful writer whose book allows her to financially take care of her family. That too can be and is a happy ending. SHE DON’T NEED NO MAN!!
