Who would have guessed it was a shorted capacitor.🤔 Tantalum capacitors were nortorious for going short circuit in CRT TV's Now i am showing my age, but the same faults still apply today. Enjoy your Pizza Sorin.😊👍💗
Should replace electrolytic caps. It might be working now, but it might cause an issue later due to ripple. Ok to leave off some ceramic bypass caps of course.
LOL! You really don't know that there was 3 same capacitors. And one less means almost nothing. Any Engineer who projected that motherboard would've put at least 2x more value than needed. So, still that circuit have at least 125% of real needed capacitance.
I had a fussy Toshiba repair one time with tokin under CPU gone and after trying several tantalums the computer stayed on reliably. Not sure if I got the AliExpress bodgy ones. But shows how important a smooth power is to CPU.
Reverse engineering can be time comsuming and challenging, if you start with basic and chase it through step by step, this was a small board not alot going on, sorin could have found that capacitor with just his finger!
Those caps are a weak point of mac's. Before you done any dignostics, my first suspect was the neighboring capacitor (above, next to the coil). Close :D
Don't bother correcting, because he doesn't care. I have tried it before when I told him there is no such thing as an original USB C port since these computer brands don't actually manufacture anything, yet in a recent video, he said it again "original Lenovo USB C port" 😅
So you do not need to replace the capacitor for the MacBook to work? Then if you do not need the capacitor for the MacBook to work why did the manufacturer include that third capacitor in the first place? If two would of been just fine.
When for people like you manufacturer is Godlike being, repair is no choice. Just trash and buy new one. If you want to make something broken working again just shut-up and learn. We don't need trolls here.
@@yeahright9014 You know, that capacitor fail would make customer to buy new motherboard. So, Sorin did the best for customer. Non-working laptop works and will work for at least 3 months. So, if other cap blows, that would be another easy pizza. Which may or may not happen eventually. But chances are less than having that capacitor replaced.
Because don't have too much tolerance..should be bigger and more voltage handling.. but for the sake of space capacitors, it is too small for that voltage
@@MrBesmir7 Yeah, stuff like this makes me kind of miss creative cutouts in boards to house bigger capacitors sideways. Instead they just dump a whole line of small SMD capacitors next to each other, which feels so "duh" to me.
And Apple Support would most likely be like "Oh, I'm sorry, we'll have to replace the mainboard, better buy a new one, okay?". (Or in other words: This is a dodgy repair, you have to replace the whole Macbook properly.)
Hi Sorin, thank for the video sharing your experience, this a truly Easy pizza i can Say as i'm Italian..😊 i don't see well the component where u inject volt...please can u tell the exact component if you have schematic & boardview... When u can please replay to my email...bye Francesco Timpano from Florence Italy
you can put it on the + of any capacitor having the + shorted to ground. Actually, it applies to any rail shorted to ground when you want to find the shorted component.
A shorted pizza is often an easy pizza with extra toppings. I just noticed Sorin tells us the hotair temperature in F instead of C. US viewers like me appreciates that LOL.

I like how Sorin does his videos now. Very simple diagnostic steps to start for the new people watching the channel.
No type of capcitor is safe from Sorin. 😁 Do not forget to miss the replacement of this capcitor in the 1st April 2025 video.
@@ISquishWorms What!!! April 2025..... your having a jaraffe aren't you 😂😂😂.

Fast like a super hero of laptop repair. Nice job Sorin.

Sorin puts all his bad capacitors in the naughty corner.
Say hello to my little friend :D
2 videos in a row, proper nice friday😎

@ So you work for Apple or have seen the schematic? You cannot know that for sure otherwise. I wasn’t asking a question anyway, it was a statement.
@@milsiart4976 if 1 failed with all this "over spec" imagine how much harder the other 2 will work and how fast they fail.
Thank you dentist Sorin! 🤣
peace be upon you sir from me
Sorin that was quick straight after the live you did very good one
I allready told you guys. The videos of capacitor replacement is only for VIP membership 🤣
only if the VIP membership doesn't exist.. if there is a VIP membership, then it won't be there either 😄

Easy Pizza, nice work Sorin.
Good job mate 👏
You forget : NO capacitor NO shorted capacitor
Perfect
Reverse engineering can be time comsuming and challenging, if you start with basic and chase it through step by step, this was a small board not alot going on, sorin could have found that capacitor with just his finger!
I think Sorin should eat a pizza while fixing the next laptop. Good idea??? 🤣🤣🤣
When the pizza be deliver? I like to see this pizza and what your favorite be?
Not me 😕 don't seem to get any laptops, only 2 in 4 years, not sure why 😖 but always open to learning more ... just incase.
I would expect you to change that capacitor!,
Those caps are a weak point of mac's. Before you done any dignostics, my first suspect was the neighboring capacitor (above, next to the coil). Close :D
Nice one
replacing the capacitor, Neeeeehhhhhh
I am not fan of Apple but definitely they have best solid components and design... Look at that components.
Thanksss
mackbooks ae known for 5V 20ma problem, when there is a dead cap on PPBUSG3H
it is tantalum capacitor ;)
Easy macbooks are not easy pizza, are easy 3star chef dinner.
y r u calling a Tantalum capacitor as electrolytic capacitor ?
Don't bother correcting, because he doesn't care. I have tried it before when I told him there is no such thing as an original USB C port since these computer brands don't actually manufacture anything, yet in a recent video, he said it again "original Lenovo USB C port" 😅
Those caps die so often in MacBooks
Applying 480°C to these electrolytic capacitors won't cause them to explode?
Hello genius. For the placement of the capacitor indicates that's at the output of the main power supply. Not replacin it increases the ripple.
So? More or less, switching power supply what charges that laptop has no ripples? And it still works. Forget it dude.
I find it hard to understand why all the Mac schematics are available. Who leaks all this stuff from the apple vault?
So you do not need to replace the capacitor for the MacBook to work? Then if you do not need the capacitor for the MacBook to work why did the manufacturer include that third capacitor in the first place? If two would of been just fine.

Sorin, ok you fixed it...who puts back the component?
Seriously. Had to thumbs-down this. Wow, you found the failed cap. What, you let the other 2 take the brunt, rather than replace it?
@@yeahright9014 You're new here then?

Part 2 would bre great, thank you!
What is PID controller in laptops???
PD, not PID. Power Delivery Controller. Manages all things charging related by communicating with charger, battery and System I/O chip
there is no way he actually puts a new capacitor in place 😂
these laptops are new, 3-4 years. why do they have electrolytic capacitors failing already?
Because don't have too much tolerance..should be bigger and more voltage handling.. but for the sake of space capacitors, it is too small for that voltage

With two pads and the insulating board there is a still a "capacitor" there just not of the same capacitance (but much better voltage rating!).
Yes, because a couple of picofarads is the same as a few microfarads 😅😅 👌
@@Johnny8eG00d😂
Reducing or increasing the number of caps in parallel don't change the voltage rating.
