For me looks like he ripped the connector off the board while removing the screen and then he opened it and applied some solder on the connector without noticing that all the pins where destroyed. Probably someone without knowledge. By the way as always amazing video, all clear and concise. I love how clean you are. Thank you for sharing with all of us.
This video was fascinating and I'm in awe of your talents. I've not seen anyone get right on the board and fix it. Everyone seems to just swap boards to do a fix. Thank you for putting this up I'm a fan.
Another good lesson. I tried soldering a connector a few days ago, and it constantly create bridges between some pins. After seeing what you said, I've got back to that connector and checked, and internally, the pins that create thoss bridges are connected between them. So, no more worries with that, and everything is working. Thanks again!
Thank you SO much!! I’m a total amateur in board repair (I swapped a micro USB cellphone connector once and a bios chip) and this time, a friend came to me with a total messed imac connector with broken pads and some scratched pads that solder was merging on board! I could manage to fix the pads with some overcoat pen and jumper wires. Gosh that was something xD But I succeeded and let me say “THANK YOU!”. Great videos by the way. Always a pleasure to watch you. Have a great day!
Thank you so much for this video. You gave me the confidence to repair my Dad's Imac that I damaged the LVDS connector on when upgrading the CPU. I nearly cried. Without your help I would have never even dared let alone achieved this component replacement. Imac works fine again. Who knew about low melt solder!? Next GPU upgrade lol! I love you man.. I hope your children marry into royalty! xx
Excellent! Just for info, if the volume is muted when the Mac is powered off, the startup chime does not sound when it is powered back on. I find the chime irritating, so keep my volume muted before switching off every night.
Hi Mr.NorthridgeFix watching your videos and learn so many thing. i have a question that you did so many hard repair project so far ' so which one is your hard project so far please tell us. from Pakistan.
i was thinking that last test pin by pin was not necessary . but after second i answer myself that's the deferent between a regular work and a perfection work
Your video shows an excellent way to repair the connector. However, when I removed the base connector about three of the pins broke off and went somewhere into the body. Any advise on how to fix this? Thanks.
Wow I always learn something new from your vids. It’s great n thanks for all your informations n knowledge mate. You actually help build a lot of faith through your work.
Those 2010 LVDS connectors are fragile, easily ripped off because the cable is very short and getting to it to disconnect is not easy. So is the 2011 one which is smaller and even more fragile. There's a stand locker or whatever it's called that stops the whole thing swivelling on the stand, then laying the computer horizontally so easier to work on.
What's it mean if there are no diagnostic led lit on late 2009 imac, but the fans come on and the boot chime is heard? The guy i bought it from ripped out the LVDS connector. I replaced it with a salvaged one, but no go. I'll remove it and try with a new part. Meanwhile, with no screen or cable attached, what's up with the missing LED status? I also noticed that there is no voltage coming out of the pins for the backlight, but there is 12 volts coming into the backlight board. If the vertical sync cable is not in (the screen is not installed when I am checking these voltage points), will the back light voltage be affected? That would not make sense. Just looking for clues.
I have an imac 5k with sever ghosting. it drives me mad. i want to replace the screen but if i get you to put in a new screen will the new screen eventually ghost as well?
I have an imac 2010 27 ", which the display turns off but the equipment is still working, I changed the inverter card and it worked for a couple of weeks, but the same problem came back, what do you think the problem is? thanks
I have this same problem. 2010 27” LCD cable connector is broken on the board. What I am also dealing with is the connection is also broken on the lcd screen also. Is this fixable?
Is one of the visual artifacts of a bad LVDS black, black vertical bands on the screen? I sent my 2012 iMac out for repair here in Kathmandu Nepal, and it came back that way. I don't want to send back to the same shop... what to do? thx!
Hey I have the same problem with my mac 27'' but there are 4 connectors for the display instead of one and 2 out of the 4 connectors are broken off I don't know what they are called or where I can find replacement parts pls help.
electronics buddy. but no program will teach you how to repair boards but once you learn basics and advanced principles of electronics, components, and how they works you can work with some repairman to learn some professional knowledge. Than you can fix like this guy. Fixing needs experience or knowlegde from someone who is experienced..
Hello friend, do you serve outside the United States? I have my iMac late 2012 with the same problem of your video the lvds connector was ripped from the motherboard, I already took it to a technician, He repaired it and it is not professional so my iMac is still not working with 40 pins, Any recommendation? Or could I do it myself maybe? Please help me
Those 4 pins at ( 14:55 )were not supposed to be toguether, check carefully from 7:10 to 8:30. You used to much solder. You no good my friend...not even using a telescope. I will never take my imac to his place...😁😆

Yep, fan right here too
your videos shows the clear difference between professionals and ... no words for who soldered that connector before you.

i was thinking that last test pin by pin was not necessary . but after second i answer myself that's the deferent between a regular work and a perfection work
Does it make more sense to solder two end legs first so it will stay in place?
No it doesn't
Your video shows an excellent way to repair the connector. However, when I removed the base connector about three of the pins broke off and went somewhere into the body. Any advise on how to fix this? Thanks.
same. they very fragile.

Damned lucky the pins on the connector broke rather than ripping multiple pads off the board!
You are a pro welding

Wow I always learn something new from your vids. It’s great n thanks for all your informations n knowledge mate. You actually help build a lot of faith through your work.

Good job!
Alt yazı seçenekleri ni açar mısınız? Harika olur
I have this same problem. 2010 27” LCD cable connector is broken on the board. What I am also dealing with is the connection is also broken on the lcd screen also. Is this fixable?
How do you know for sure the pins are bridged together without a diagram? Is it just because you are unable to separate them when solder flows?
do you guys someone that can do this in the UK... I'm in London and I have a imac 2009 27 with the same problem

Can a worn-out LVDS connector cause severe ghosting on my iMac?

That is flux, which causes the solder to flow.
Great job again like always

There is a trace connecting the two pins in two cases on this connector, and if ANYONE knows how much solder to use, it is Hussein Ali.
