- My studio gear + a quick tour of what I use to make music (In skippable chapters:) + asking you what tutorials could I make next? I've been a Music Production lecturer (@BIMM), an Ambassador for many music tech makers + have had my UA-cam channel for over a decade making How Tos. What would you like to learn, explore next; let me know! I'm mainly a musician + producer creating electronic music + performing it in places like Nobu // Hard Rock Ibiza + releasing on M-Sol Records //Atlantic Jaxx // Lounge Masters //Saifam //Curve Music but worked in studios in London + Amsterdam learning the trade from trainee engineer + tape op so have a real love for vintage and analogue gear!! Looks like you got a couple of Thoth cards wedged in the back of your prism rack. Just in case your were wondering where some of the missing cards went 😅
The Roland 531 Module is one of my fav pieces of Kit. Good choice to get one while you still can. Enjoy the modular journey. It's very for filling.

thanks for the studio tour. For me it is all about control types and I am experimenting with dsp. I've never sold anything but never had anything I would consider of resale value. I am just a hobbiest though. I think a lot can be done with emulation (including chip emulation like the new motorala chip emulators these days so the control surfaces are really about how how you get that sound into the control station or daw. Maybe a keytar type guitar midi device would be a fun toy for you to play with I had some other ideas but I think this is the one closest to what I saw in the video. Something like MIDI GUITAR CONTROLLER BEST SUITED FOR

Guitar Wing Anyone wanting to utilize MIDI as an added effects processor ... My recent moderate cost item was an antelope audio interface for the dsp , my next purchase may be another dsp engine like apollo or fatchannel etc.. not 100% sure yet. I use an old danalog ddx3216 as part of a control patch but a qcon g2 is my main daw controller
Yes agree control surfaces very important and make the process much more fun. Will def look into some of these!

Lovely studio, not too cluttered, E-MU emulater samplers are incredible, I had the e5000, great sounding machine.
Thanks! Always feels cluttered as have a lot I don’t use everyday!! Yes love the Emu and want to go thru all my old samples that old Zip drive must be somewhere!! :)

JP-8000 will be nearer 98 than 88 - one of the early VAs and legendary for its supersaw
System-500 journey sounds great 👍
I wouldn’t sell the MIJ strat.. the problem with selling guitars is you can never get back the same thing.. even if you hunt down same model/factory/year.. they’re all a bit unique
Yes I did look it up after and meant to alter!! Excited to start with system 500 :) seems no one advises selling the fender it is a beaut but don’t play it so much these days! :)
The strat is probably made by the FujiGen factory in Japan.. in the 80's generally the Japanese made Fenders were higher quality than the US made ones!
I always find a good crossover realm between synths and guitars in the domain of effects.. super useful for both :)
I noticed in another comment you mentioned something about keeping your rack gear tidy.. have you considered a tall thin 19" network rack? I use APC AR201 racks.. but there are other similar or smaller ones. Those are 45U (about 2m tall for this height) and lets you mount a load of rack gear in there.. and if there's no super deep gear you can have it around 25cm from the wall.. so it becomes like gear wallpaper 😂

Cool Chanel,subbed..ive looked at modular myself but just haven't got round to it and I know that you start with a couple of modules and end up with wall to wall stuff and end up living in a shed lol
Haha made me laugh!! It def seems compulsive some of the set ups I see are epic, let’s see where the journey leads!! (Def staring with new leads, we’ll patch leads!!) love Reaktor for the virtuals and may get the ARP used to have an older version !
@@stellarrubio Be easier to get on the space program than learn modular.What sometimes takes them hours to do,I can get the same sounds playing with the buttons on the microwave
My sister's ex had a JP -8000 back in the day and I immediately fell in love with it. Modular synthesis via VSTs is my current fascination, (Cardinal, VCV, Reaktor, ARP 2600 V3 et al), so I'd be interested to see vids that explore that topic.
Yes I could def compare the mod syn to the virtuals! Love ARP too and the Jp is def a keeper! :)
Studied music tech in the early 90’s and I remember using an early version of Cubase on an Atari ST. We used to use an Akai hardware sampler S2000 I think, with various rack mounted modules (Novation bass station and various other bits). Upgraded to an Akai z4 and we used Zip drives. I thought it was amazing at the time. Now using Ableton and a novation midi keyboard as a little home studio set up. I did have a Roland MV-1 after watching a tutorial you did and it inspired me to try it out. Enjoyed it for a while but found it was a bit limited on its own.. Also, do you remember the software called ‘Reason’ by the Propellerheads.
yes I started on Cubase too on an Atari that would overheat and need breaks! Ah yes the Novation sounded great that and the 303 were very 90s! Wish I could have found the Zip drive as prob have some great old samples!! Yeah I tend to use the drum machine aspect of the MV-1 now mostly but it's great for a 'blue screen' break! @@stellarrubio Thanks for your reply. I was in a band called Bluprint and we managed to get signed to a small independent label called Exceptional records. Sort of trip hop, slightly jazzy, chill out, bit of house. Sample heavy stuff but we also played all our instruments live (guitar, bass, drums and keyboards). Landed a few gigs in London, Bristol and Bath. Nowadays I’m just tinkering with ambient electronic, bit of breaks sort of stuff as I’m a big fan of Sasha and what he’s producing currently. I guess I’ve followed him since the very early days. Actually DJ’ed (as a warm up) with him a few times in the 90’s. Anyway, love your stuff. Would love to see how you incorporate your vocal samples into your music and maybe some thoughts on your inspiration and how you keep motivated in writing new material.
Wow cool, aha funny as I edited out a bit of the vid where I mentioned Sasha, I worked in a studio where he recorded back in the day! Thanks for the support yes sure I'll do some stuff on vocals as working on a new song that I'm gonna do a live UA-cam of so will do a making of too :) I never seem to run out of inspiration mostly comes as I fall asleep and if I remember the next day I use it!!!

That 80's strat is kind of cool. If I really loved it, I wouldn't sell it.
Maybe showing how you arrange music in Logic would be cool. Also, what you use for drums, etc...

I know my son just said it’s his inheritance and I’m not allowed!! But tempted as I don’t play it much and have another although not as nice as that Strat!! Holy sheep shit! This is the first time that I've completely randomly bumped into someone on t'internet that I've 'known' in real life. I used to catch the 33 to school too. I was in the year above I think. It's great to see that you've gained a seriously respectful amount of success. Music production is my serious hobby, (which is why UA-cam recommended this vid), and I'm currently exploring creating experimental filmscore music so I'm intrigued to explore your creations.
