      that's because most people who buy the verselab are just beatmakers, not vocalists. So they're scared to delve into that part of it. It takes a lot of confidence to create tutorial videos where you're just speaking to the camera. Singing, however, that's a whole new level of confidence. Especially during this day and age of social media, where people just eat you alive with criticism.

    This was the most refreshing thing I experienced for a long time, cause a total switch of the chairs...
    The last 4 Weeks I gave my little niece (ok.."little", she 17) a proper crash course in "How to produce music by your own without getting fooled by "fake tutorials" or little A-Hole Boys that aren't really interested in your Songs" (I do this now 25 Years for living and...as this explains "I've seen it all...") Last week I treated me with the Verselab, my first new Roland Gear since ... The Fantom XR Rack...and, Girl, this was the best, most informative, and absolutely on-point quick Tutorial I ever watched about a specific functionallity. Astonishing how well-structured Info can be transmitted is when the "Awesome-UA-cam-Producer-with-the-longest-Plugin-Tale-comparison-contest" is taken out of the Game. ;-)

    Fantastic videos. Thank you. I am making synthwave style music in a DAW but am interested in the Verselab for recording vocals with a collaborator. I gather from the end of your video that I can bounce a wav file of the track from my DAW and import it into the Verselab for the singer to record over. And from there either mix and master the whole track in the MV1 or export the vocal only to mix and master in the DAW. Sorry for the convoluted question but I am excited about the Verselab but unsure whether it fits my workflow - especially for songs that are already complete except for vocals.

    • @stellarrubio
      @stellarrubio  3 роки тому +2

      Hi, thanks for watching! yes you can export just the vocals to export for collabs...and although I haven't actually imported a wav to record over i have sung a whole song from beginning to end on to a single pad so believe it would be possible from storage mode to import it to a pad to work that way. The Versalab is def 'versatile'!
      :)

  • @doktorduch

    Hello, could you pan individual takes on pads to the left and right or pan is just for whole vocal track? And can you export takes on each pad somehow? Peace!

  • @hvhvgitaar
    @hvhvgitaar 2 роки тому +2

    This is an excellent video. Thanks for putting the work in! I was wondering whether it is possible to export the different track stems “dry”, as in without FX/processing. This is particularly useful I think for the vocals, because the final mix and mastering could then be done in a DAW.
    Looking for something to do songwriting on the go (vanlife) and it’s probably this or an MPC One….

    • @stellarrubio
      @stellarrubio  2 роки тому +1

      Yes that is certainly possible as have done this and sent stuff to the daw also! It’s actually a great bit of kit for just taking away from the daw on weekends and stuff to sketch ideas as well as finish complete songs!

    Very good ! If only we all had your patience to read and fully understand the manual.
    Does anyone know if i can adjust the volume of beats / sounds that were inputted directly from the step sequencer rather than when played from the pads? When played from the pads the sound is volume sensitive to the pressure applied but when inputting directly to the step sequencer they come out at full volume.

  • @vertigev
    @vertigev 3 роки тому

    Hi Estelle, I think I messed something up on my MV-1, perhaps you could point me in the right place/menu to look since you are really good with vocals? When I monitor and/or record through the external mic, I can hear reverb and delay on my voice (which I setup in the EDIT+MIC ON menu), but when I check the recording by pressing the pad, the reverb and delay are gone. I must have turned off something somewhere but I can't find it. I've read the manual and that's no help either. Thank you!
    Other than confusion with the vocal poc and MFXs, I REALLY like the MV-1. It's way better than what people say about it on the internet, you can get something going in just a few minutes, or spend hours tweaking every detail to get exactly what you want.

    • @DavidDeLuge
      @DavidDeLuge 3 роки тому +7

      The thing is, like with the Deluge and OP-Z, you don't need a big screen because the workflow is intuitive. If you must have one, then install Zenbeats onto your phone or tablet, plug the MV-1 into it and you have a screen.
      One of the primary reasons I didn't go for an MPC One or Maschine + is because they have big screens. As a software developer, I sit looking at a screen all day for work. The last thing I want is to sit looking at one whilst making music. Plus, they get covered in fingerprints and probably scratches too.
      My Deluge has a two segment display and that is absolutely all it needs and it is probably one of the most accomplished, powerful and virtually limitless standalone music production tools out there.
      For me, the MV-1 embraces a hybrid of the Deluge and OP-Z workflow and I am looking forward to the arrival of mine 😬. Could it replace the Deluge? Probably not but the sound engine is fantastic and leaps and bounds ahead of the MPC range and the presets are far and away better than those on the Deluge too.

    I’m very interested in getting this unit due to the vocal effects but after seeing you demonstrate the sample slice function I have to say what should be a very simple process seems to be rather convoluted multi button pressing compared to NI Maschine or the Akai Mpc range where slices are immediately sliced to pad.
    If Roland can’t rectify this I will just buy Maschine Plus for a stand alone unit.
    Great video and and track though, thank you.

      Yes the vocal effects are great: Probably seems longer as I'm talking my way through it, in reality it's Tap then Tap..Hope that helps. Also firmware updates are regular and on point so you never know it may get included!

      Yep after getting it I wondered about sending it back for 2 weeks, particularly as I'm used to maschine workflow and they brought out clips which has the same freedom. I used maschine for 2 years and like it but after a month I'm glad I kept the versalab....the workflow pushes you to make a song rather than loops, it's a great sequencing set up and fast...really supports modular rather than linear working and subtractive arrangement. The lack of a screen has really focus my thinking but you're right it's 2 months old and needs a polish.. They're both great kit.. but the versalab makes me smile.

    Hey awesome vocals and cool clip too... It's "WAVE", from the word waveform which is sliced up at 22/44/96khz and stored as numbers without compression. So WAV's were much bigger and we'd only fit 700MB on a CD. Considering a lot might not be audible, there's a lot of redundant data to store versus a smaller, 320Kbps mp3 :) just saying!

      @@stellarrubio thanks, yeah. triggers get one mention in the manual then nothing. great. up till now ive been playing with the sequencing and production pack roland gave away... im not sure this was designed for berlin techno but its coming on. After watching this i summoned up the will to excavate the room which must not be entered and found my old SE Electronic mic. I has a boss br1200 and really enjoyed some aspects of it but never got the hang of the sequencing and the sounds were a bit cheesy. i cant get over how good the sounds are on this without a computer. I agree with Mister Twister that youve brought the manual off the page and created a great demo that is much much easier to follow and that 3d image of the pad really worked for me. I wished theyd done an effects map / diagram in the parameters. if feel like everything inc my grandmothers budgie can have effects on it. it would be very useful to fix muddy mixing. Thankyou for taking the time. Hope you do more.

    Nice vid. I'm sitting here wondering why in the world would Roland think it was ok for them to release this product with that screen tho?? I mean if truth be told it was Riland who was wayyyyyyyy ahead of the curve with the MV8800 they actually kinda paved the way for the things we have now, but it seems they have regressed some. I'd have to doore research but it seems for the price range id got with an mpc one over this.
