Hi, I figured they'd have a sensor tool to detect underground pipes, but never checked in to it. 20 inches is pretty good, but at some point the pipe may be deeper than 18 or so inches. I say 18 because your not going to drag the probe in the dirt. I wondered if you'd had a chance to use it on drain lines of your sewer line. To see if the transmitter could shoot more than 20 inches.
Thanks for doing a pretty thorough review with actual examples. Appreciated.

Haha. I’m here watching the video for the same reason as you. Trying to find my distribution box at the leach field. I had a plumber come locate the line with the more expensive version of what was shown in the video. Dug down to where he marked it and found absolutely nothing. Either the guys machine was off or my box is 8’ down sitting in the water table.

I just bought this to track down some very long runs of pvc irrigation in my yard that are leaking @ around 2 foot depth. Stay tuned. Note: I tried to make one of these with fish tape and a toner, but it didn't work at that depth. Perhaps if the fish tape was copper it would have been more detectable.

I added the headset jack to my unit, so I'm able to hear faint signals from a deep pipe, but if it's very quiet outside, you should hear a change in the audio. 2 feet is pushing the limits. Thanks for watching!

i believe what electronics might be trying to say is use a metal or a conductive/inductive pipe locator , a regular metal detector i would not trust , 35 years doing pipeline repair , a tad pricey and takes a little bit of skill put extremely accurate under most metal circumstances, and under no circumstances NO do not trust the metal rods that cross like in a water witch,, if you are searching get your best diligence ,maybe use the rods to somewhat confirm your best guess is, other wise you get what you pay for

What you are using to locate pipes & cable is a small version of an "M"scope since tubes & microprocessors were not invented yet. The "M" scope was like 2 attache cases. I had to locate all underground gas lines in Pulaski, NY for a sewer project (About the time dirt was invented).
Surprisingly about every 1/2 mile there was a valve box looking thing with a strip of nickle or similar. That was a sacrifice strip designed to corroded and disintegrate instead of the metal pipes they were connected to.
