- Nate goes over how to hook up a WS-6.2 to studio monitors. This process works for either Kali sub, and just about any pair of studio monitors from popular brands!

Special thanks to The Beehive in Van Nuys for letting us use their fabulous rehearsal space to shoot!
Excellent explanation and instructions on how it’s done. I’ve been wondering how to do this correctly. Much appreciated!
Thanks Nate!
Thank you very much!
Do a video how to calibrate the speakers and sub with an spl meter and pink noise
Great video , i have a question on the Kali Audio LP-UNF 4.5 inch Professional Ultra Near Field Studio Monitors, can we connect a sub with these. ?
would it be possible to create a sealed 12" with performance similar to SVS sb1000 but STUDIO subs with balanced passthroughs.... no market for decent sealed studio subs and integrating home theater subs are such a pain
Sealed designs are typically not very price effective, and so it's something we haven't gone for.
@kaliaudio I do notice a trend of studio subs being ported but they really just don't go that deep. I would think it'd be cheaper to be sealed and less material? Is it the power to run a sealed driver or the market in general?
@@vilmfilm The port is giving you a "free" ~1/2 octave of response. You'd need to increase system power by >50% in order to get same response with a sealed box. This is not just a matter of inputting more power (necessitating a larger amp) but also using a transducer that can handle that power. This drives the cost of the product up massively, which is why the SVS sub that performs similarly to the WS-12 costs about $2k. For studio use, we are not convinced that the performance justifies the price tag.
I got the typical small bedroom. I wanna buy the Lp-unf with the 6.2 subwoofer. But you also sell the in- unf system. Which one should I buy?
The IN-UNF is more detailed, but a little more finicky in terms of setup. The LP-UNF is more beginner friendly.
I want to use 4 of these in a system. 2 per channel. If the signal only comes out high passed, i would not be able to daisy chain each channels subs then out to the monoblacks. Is there a solid reliable solution to be able to use these ?
How do I connect one of your subs to a pair of MM-6 which are connected to my source via optical? That's what I can't figure out.
I guess that you need an usb audio unterface with optical in. 2 xlr cables from it to sub, and two more xlr cables from the sub to speakers
Hello! I recently purchased a pair of IN-8s along with the subwoofer, but I will still like to use my LP 8s in conjunction with those speakers. What do I need to correctly set this up? Right now I have a focus right Scarlet 4I4 interface, do I need to upgrade the interface to have more outputs? Not sure how this works since ive only ever used two monitors at a time. I’m just a little confused about the cable routing. Any assistance would be most appreciated. PS the IN-8s sound great by the way!
You should get a monitor controller! I would look at the Nero from Audient.
@@kaliaudio Thanks for the response! I did follow this tutorial to get the sub and IN-8s to function. When I connect the LP-8s to my interface I noticed that the volume control from the interface was no longer working with those two speakers. Not only that, but I noticed that the overall power of the low end diminished quite a bit as well. Is that due to the strength of the audio interface, or is it a possibility that it’s because of how it is rigged together? I’m just exploring all this stuff lately lol. But I will definitely check out that monitor controller!
@@JayMitchellMusic hard to say. Hit up our customer service! They'll ask for some more details and maybe a video and should be able to help you out.
@@kaliaudio Will do!! Thanks for being so responsive and helpful!
Hello! I have bought your beautiful monitors IN-8 v2. Is this sub WS-6.2 the best for IN-8? I want to listen music and a little bit to dj’ing. And I like low bass.
WS-6.2 would be a great choice!
Do you have a recommended external crossover to use with the Kali WS-6.2? We have a "Grand Canyon" effect because our desk is creating a null with our stereo monitors in the 120 - !40Hz range. The WS-6.2 80Hz crossover is too low to fill that gap and I'm not clear if the LFE crossover would work in this application. I'm considering an external crossover around 150Hz and curious if you have any recommendations. Thanks! -chaz
Most of the studio-oriented crossovers for this sort of application are for immersive setups, so you're paying for 8+ channels where it sounds like you only need 2. Behringer and dbx both make some things for PAs that could work well, but they're live sound focused and might introduce more noise than a studio-focused solution would.
You mentioned the subwoofer works with any Kali Audio studio monitors. I have the LP-UNF monitor. Since it does not have XLR inputs how do I connect the subwoofer to it?
You'll need to get cables that are XLR Female on one end and TRS on the other end. Sweetwater, Thomann, or any other large music retailer will have these on hand.
Or connect with just RCA on a sub that has RCA ports.
How do i do this for the LP-UNF
Source->WS-6.2->XLR female to TRS Cables->LP-UNF
perfect, just what I needed - i have that sub but haven't hooked it up yet
1. what brand(s) do you recommend for cables? those mogami gold ones are might expense and perhaps overkill?
2. also what do you recommend for studio monitors with less piercing highs? my yamaha HS8's don't have enough bass (without a sub) and turning them up louder (to get more bass) seems to only end up shredding my ears from the high freqs and my poor ears get fatigued pretty fast
1. Really doesn't matter. Some of the cheaper stuff from Amazon is unreliable, but other than that it's not worth spending a fortune or worrying about all that much.
2. We make some pretty damn good monitors lol. Our IN-8 would be a fabulous upgrade to your HS8
It'll be cool if you added any additional words about dual sub setups, to have a manufacturers opinion on how to plug two subs correctly to your interface or just avoid doing it
We'll add it to our list for filming!
