i have been learning Japanese and today I thought I was hopeless at it until I realized that what I was reading in Japanese was a world away from the day I first started. I practice writing Kanji in my head then I check it on the web. I am too old to ever be good at it (74) but I am better than many foreigners living in Japan. I do not live in Japan nor will I ever. My teacher is a girl (MIsa Japanese Ammo). I started at the beginning.
I learn something new every day, but on the next days, I forget and have to learn and learn again. That´s a big problem which comes with age. It´s not that you can´t learn, the problem is that you forget fast enough to put the new knowledge on the long term memory.
I can relate. It's not that I can't learn. It's that I can't recall it when I need it. I play trivia that gives me choices. It serprises me sometimes how I know it but wouldn't be able to explain it or tell you how or where I learned.

senior moments - well, one: the more you know, the more you can forget; and 2: just how many thousands of times have you done this or that? it becomes reflex-response. who thinks about it? - like grabbing your hand away from heat. so i go to do something i’ve done a thousand times and i forget what i’m doing. you know that bit where you can read a sentence and, as long as all the words start and end with the proper letter, you can read it. well, i find that as i get older, i have to really pay attention to words like in a title or an ad cause i’ll read the first and last letter in an instant and get the wrong word. your brain sorta hiccups and you realize that makes no sense whatsoever. LOL. The other thing that happens is - “wait, what i thinking of? oh, yeah” - or 5 or 10 minutes later, “oh, s-t!” one thing for sure, i am very glad about the generation i was born into. that stuff in the ‘60’s (music, civil rights, anti-war protesting, our clothes - that’s ours and it’ll never happen again. i really miss that time, even though my head was a bit off (nothing to do with drugs at all). i’m still a flower🌷child at heart. have a good everyone!!! :) 🐈🐾🐕🧝🏻♀️🐺
What could stop certain neurons from forming and actually being cut off? Trauma, bad (harmful) decision making, certain drugs, food chemicals, environmental pollution, high emotions of any sort such as ecstasy, fear... can all cause synapses between neurons to short out, cauterizing neural pathways. Our Creator calls this seared conscience in the case of poor decision making which causes neurons of the frontal lobe to "over heat."
It's amazing how easy it was to learn songs of my youth and now, even with lyrics, I forget the next line. But I can still sing along those old songs without lyrics.
I never tire of hearing about the complexities of the brain. Partly because there is still so much unknown, and it's fun to try and figure out what else there could be. I suspect it's as deep and unfathomable as the universe itself. Oh, and not to mention, the human brain as it is now evolutionarily, is likely only a fraction of what it will be in time. Ponder that.
47:53 this makes me think of Ari Shaffer on Joe Rogan podcast speaking about his Ayahuasca experience. He describes these moments he calls "pures", that he had visions of as small bubbles of energy that went "up" to exists somewhere else, amongst other pures. He described a pure as a moment of pure expression, that's somehow captured into form and a sort of entity of its own.
They don't mention nutrition, but I think everyone should ensure they get enough vitamins, minerals and omega-3 fatty acids. Unfortunately RDA's are only meant to prevent deficiencies, they are not meant for optimal health.

Well good for you. Doesn't mean anything except for you. I am nearly 62 and have fibromyalgia and arthritis so bad I can't hardly walk at times. My body hurts intensely all the time. When I was young I had intense pain each month and migraines along with it. Then I developed kidney stones. My spine has calcified together, so I can't bend. I have intense pain in my spine and pelvis where I can't walk a lot of the time. If you are not elderly you don't need that monthly check and discounts every place that you probably take advantage of. I am sure you don't want to keep working for a check the rest of your life. My mother other than breaking her wrist and hip at the same time, was alright mentally until she was around 80. Then she got alzheimers. You never know. I have taken care of elderly women who drove and were independant, a couple of them were ran over in a parking lot and lost it all. If you can carry on without needing help in your life, that is good. But don't hold your breath, it can change in a heart beat. My grandmother was 92 when she died and my bio mother died of uterian cancer in her 40's.

What if we could turn our brains into quantum computers? The brain is made of atoms and our thoughts are formed by electromagnetic impulses. External stimuli can also invoke these impulses. There are even birds who use quantum entanglement as a compass. I believe that if we could turn our brains into quantum computers then we could do amazing things. Things that we today would call magic. I believe that consciousness itself could transcend the limits of this degenerating substrate we call the human body. I say all this as an atheist.
