I only have two critiques on the design of the “rail gun.” The rounds move far slower than expected, and the sound is not delayed with distance, which leaves out a very powerful immersive indicator of scale. The shock of seeing an explosion before hearing it cannot be understated.
The shot traveled 35 miles in about 11 seconds lol. I did the math and that is a very impressive 11454.5 miles per hour lol, or nearly 191 miles per minute. I'm not sure how fast you think it should be lol. Also no games I have ever played have proper speed of sound travel times, because it would probably take all sorts of complex coding and probably only possible in a very specialized game type or mode. There is no sound delay on any weapons, over distances

Railguns use electromagnetic rails to accelerate a projectile. Laws oh physics means a significant more massive projectile doing 3/4 faster than a smaller projectile is going to do SUBSTANTIALLY more kinetic damage. Enough to leave craters in the ground like meteor surface strikes. That speed is practical bang on with the largest rail guns fired today. Again, I did the math. Lol
@@lunamaria1048 I think what hes saying is that the railgun ingame is quite slow, cause with current technology we can accelerate a projectile around 3km/s , and the one fired here is barely above that. it would be reasonable to think that a railgun of that size, powered by godknows how strong electromagnets would be capable to fling off a projectile at speeds maybe 4/5 times quicker than that, since theoretically the only limit of how powerful a railgun is stands on how quickly and how much power you can give to the system. P.S. I know the idris railgun probably fires a projectile which is 20/50 times heavier than what our current railguns can fire, but still i dont see how in a thousand years we wouldnt be able to simply make it much more powerful (Sorry for the terrible grammar, im not english and im typing this at 1am lmao)

yeah I wouldn't say that yet. There's plenty of opportunity to ruin it. Some of the stuff being ported from Squadron, for instance. We'll see how they handle it.
Too bad they've got extra doors sticking out the side but this is just amazing despite it. Truly awesome to see them maneuvering like this at low altitude, since I've pretty much only seen them flying in straight lines in other videos. Thanks for putting the work in to make this happen!
well the Polaris is coming this year so if both come this year then it would make sense having 2 ships that can deal with each other and i have both ships myself.@@originalgameronline3457

I really wish they'd add distance to the sounds.. Like the speed of sound and it traveling to you. You cant hear the shots or the ships past a certain distance... the sounds are amazing but adding this effect would make it a 10/10.

I just want to say, as a professional SC skeptic, I am VERY impressed with this! I'm happy my fiance and brother both own an Idris lol. these shots are amazing! Im not sure if its just me, but i definetely prefer seeing them at 0.75 speed, makes them feel way more intimidating and collosal imo. I hope CIG slows their speed down a bit sometime in the future.
There is no sound for when the railgun fires? There was one flyby into a drift and a fire, but it was silent. I also wish the sound design for the rail slug hitting the other ship sounded better. Kind of an out of place sound.
That shot of the 2 fighting with Crusader behind them was FIRE. Idk what it is about the Idris but it looks SO small to me. Like this thing is run by how many people? And to me it feels like watching a Semi vs a regular car...it's not THAT much bigger. But when you are underneath it, when you have any sense of scale...it's massive. I wish they'd stick some windows or something on the thing to make it more clear on big the thing you are looking at is, because it's so far the worst offender for looking way smaller than it is in the game. The big nose turret makes the ship look normal sized like it's just a S3 turret or something. The other turrets are really hard to see and don't really pop out enough to get a sense of scale. Like spam the thing with smaller turrets so I know what Im looking at. Also sound design seems unfinished for that gun and the thrusters sound about as big as a 400i's.
I totally agree. I think that the fact we are flying them at some pretty great speeds overhead causes them to somewhat appear smaller than they really are. After all they are quite massive.
These engines sound DIRTY. We're approaching Elite Dangerous level of eargasm. Could be a bit louder though imo. That and the sound of them cuts out way too close to the player.

Extreme risk service beacons spawn them, or you could theoretically do the Echhart mission Chain and endlessly repeat that idris mission whenever it becomes available. These have the ninetails skin so it they should be from service beacons, which is far more reliable than the alternative. I havent seen how they do it most recently, but its something along the lines of dropping its shields and distorting it enough to disable the turrets, then use a ship to clip a man into the bridge and boom. free Idris. Like i said i haven't seen it done so i cant say exactly but thats the gist and thats how they get them to spawn
What's the trick to get one? Both times I've tried the inside was all glitches out and you'd fall through the ship. I thought I was gonna be able to enter the pilot seat through the cockpit glass after killing the pilot that way but also had no luck. Help a brother out 😢 o7

How can such fat ass be so Mobil with gravity is beyond me. Those accelerations if played speed x1 are too much. Firing shots need a bit more end result pazaam. Overall, no sense or feel for ship size and weight. Weapon hit look like and hear like duds I hope they work those or sad if Idris flies like a vanguard 3.17 and shoot like mustang standard load 2.6

how did both ships stay locked that well in qt? every time i try group qt one ship has a faster drive speeds way ahead.

Have everyone aligned and spooled at the same time with the same qt target set, then just one person initiates jump and pulls everyone with them.

I find the Idris to be exceptionally ugly.. is it still a WIP ? The texture and features look extremely underdeveloped.
This version is in fact unfinished, it's missing the interior to prevent the ship being explorable by players before Sq42 ships.
