    As someone who is suspected of EDS and has hyper mobility because of bad genetics this is so fascinating to me. Because my hyper mobility is due to a connective tissue disorder it causes a lot more issues than benefits but I still love seeing how these movements are not only seen as difficult/strange to other people but people actually seem to benefit from them and actually work towards them. Also, on the whole ankle rolling thing, so far I know many people with EDS who have survived insane falls and trips without damaging any joints because of the hyper mobility. The only difference seems to be that our mobility is what causes the really bad falls and trips. I know this is a bit of a tangent but I just wanted to express how much I enjoy these videos and how fascinating it is to see a normal person work to be able to do what we were cursed to do unwillingly. Also, I'm writing none of this with a negative or angry mindset, I genuinely just find it cool.

    • @LadyLara1
      @LadyLara1 Рік тому +42

      @@stevenxoyatla1432 @Steven Xoyatla Yes, we stand on our toes in pointe shoes - usually our weight is redustributed to balance completely on the single platform of a shoe. And that weight is ofren in a single line from the toe, up to the hip. A lot of the strength of pointe shoes comes from how they fit around the base of the toes. Once they get too soft here, they begin to sag and become too soft to hold you properly.

      @LadyLara1 Рік тому +26

      @@GotFaculty If you don't practice pointe properly - yes! But pointe shoes and pointe products these days are designed to hold you up so you can dance en pointe safely. A lot of dancers these days don't get more than bruises and blisters and the occasional fallen off nail.
      I am not a professional dancer, I started ballet when I was 30, and then started pointe 4.5 years after that. If you don't pad your feet properly you get bruising and pressure sores. I've certainly had a few toenails fall off. But pointe has changed over the years - gone are the permanently damaged feet and even some of the body stereotypes are changing.
      If you want more info on pointe shoes I highly recommend The Pointe Shop :)

      And you don't even need weights.
      You can create resistance by just moving your hand.
      Just pretend you have weights in your hand & do all the motions.
      As long as you keep your wrist warmed up, even with a minimal resistance, you will start developing all the tissues & muscles.
      Just extra blood circulation will help with healing & development.
      *
      Btw, don't worry what type of motions you do.

    I've always had very wobbly ankles (broken many a bone by falling because of them), and my therapist told me it can be a side effect of trauma, which is wild to me. I've learned trauma truly lives in your body, and my weak wobbly ankles might very well be a symptom of my PTSD. I'm going to start doing your suggested stretches and strength exercises to help my body heal, and I'm really excited about it. Thank you for being so positive and encouraging! (Edited for typo)

    • @npip99
      @npip99 Рік тому +8

      No man I've heard a thousand stories of doctors saying it's caused by trauma and then we figure out the real issue so much later than we should have. It's probably caused by physical weakness.
      Try to locate and isolate the exact muscles and tendons in your ankle that are weak or tight. Try to stretch them in directions a little past uncomfortably but not into pain. Try to resistance train various types of movements with light dumbbells (like 2lb or something, maybe 1, ankles aren't strong).
      That trains both muscle strength, and stability control when you practice do each rep smoothly.
      While fear might be in your mind, no amount of controlling your mind can overcome physically weak and stiff muscles and tendons.
      Just make sure to not overwork them and make them inflamed, and def don't tear anything midworkout. If they're sore, let them rest (still do light stretches to help them heal, but do not stretch past comfortably this time). If you have a job that requires standing or walking, only train on Friday before the weekend, etc.
      I hope this helps, someone close to me had very wobbly wrist and some PTSD too. PTSD might've caused it at first but having wobbly and unstable wrist for so many years also caused the muscles to be weak, her coordination to be weak, and some muscles to be tight. All three solved by training like a champ! And the confidence from the strength and stability helps so much with feeling psychologically healthy.
      Obv I can't explain the movements over text but you can Google ankle stretching and strengthening exercises it'll do wonders 🙏
      Good wishes!

      Maybe you have hypermobile joints. I have wobbly ankles as well and it is cause of that. You have to strengthen the muscles around the joint to get stability from. Also you might need support soles (orthotic insoles, fitted to your feet).

  • @Bambuskus505

    another way to avoid rolled ankles without stretching, is to just go along with the fall. Lean into it. Don't fight it. If you lean into the roll, your ankle will never actually reach that point of no return.
    Fighting the roll causes the muscles to tense up, and if your leg is tensed up, it's just going to make your day so much worse in the end. Leaning into the roll keeps your muscles relaxed enough that the stretching becomes nothing more than a mild inconvenience for a few seconds.
    If you learn to go with the flow, AND do the stretching, I can promise that you will never ever roll your ankle ever again.

One day I was walking out in the woods and I stopped to pee by some rocks. Being the adventurous type, I planted my foot on some rocks only to my dismay the rocks where stacked on top of each other in a weird way and they collapsed into each other causing my ankle to collapse as well and I landed like the guy in the video. I’m really thankful I developed that ability as I was ALONE in the middle of the woods with no medical aid for miles if I did got injured. Moral of the story is train your ankles, train your flexibility/mobility folks it could save your life one day.
