    Fantastic review. Your overview pulled the purchase for trigger for this title. Thanks!

    A very fair review. I also really love the board game, it's actually my favourite. I have dipped in to the digital version and it seems pretty good so far, but I am concerned about what I can only describe as the lack of overall "visibility" in this game. For instance, being able to see at all times what's going on and where, being able to double check cards during certain actions, which seems limited as is.

    • @CultoftheCyberSkull
      @CultoftheCyberSkull  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you so much! And I definitely agree about the visibility part. I found that there are enough tools there that keep you informed on a general level, but reminding you of what cards are in play and letting you see your hand at a glance would be definite improvments.

    Good review- just subscribed. I've been watching play through videos leading up to the release and one thing I really agree with you on is the AI. I've seen exactly what you pointed out; the hunters just cluster together and don't show "anticipation" for Drac's movements- the AI logic needs some real tuning. And it's the same when the AI is playing as Dracula. I've seen him at sea and come ashore on a city occupied by a hunter when there were cities further away in the same sea zone that were open. But that's why they delayed the release- to fix things like the tutorials and AI. At least they recognize the issues and felt obligated to fix it prior to releasing to the public. That's actually refreshing. Thanks again for the solid review.

      Thanks a bunch for watching and for subscribing! I'm really happy to hear that you enjoyed it! And yeah, like I said in the video, if they can fine-tune the AI and make it act a bit "smarter," I definitely think that this game can be a really solid single-player version of the board game. It's not bad, but it needs some work. For my playthroughs, Dracula has been a bit better than the hunters, but he definitely takes to the sea often and goes to England a lot, though it may just be a coincidence for me, I'm not certain. It's why I didn't mention anything about that in my video.
      Thanks again!

    I agree, I think you're right about the colours being bright and not moody enough. It feels a little too 'overdesigned' and busy as well.
    Perhaps the team will update it with a few colour pallette options, or a 'dark mode' lol
    I have the original 1987 edition with the beautiful metal figures. Such an amazing game.

    I want this as the 4th edition is now put of print also. Is that abit of Savatage in the intro there btw?

    Dang, two videos so close together? and an early review of a board game adaption? Sign me up! Definitely looks cool, but better AI definitely would help because I can't imagine getting enough people together often enough to justify it if that makes sense

      October was a very busy time for me, even with starting the Dark review at the end of August/beginning of September. And I get what you mean entirely; you need to sell your friends on the idea of board games and dedicate yourselves to it. I love how digital board games can help close that gap a bit. Thanks for watching, as always! :)

    So incredibly in-depth. I've hovered over buying the board game before as it has everything I like in a board game. Unfortunately it took me two years to convince my friends to play Arkham Horror with me!

    • @CultoftheCyberSkull
      @CultoftheCyberSkull  4 роки тому

      Arkham Horror is a gem, but Eldritch Horror is even better, especially when fleshed out by several expansions. The nice thing about digital board games is the ability to play solo if you can't convince your friends to pick it up, though ;)
      Thanks for watching dude! :)

    I played solo as the 4 Hunters, and used the app to play Dracula, all while using my full FoD board game on the game table to visualize the game better. Worked really well, especially since I love the game and can't convince the rest of the family to play with me.

      do you like playing as 4 separate hunters??? i HATE that

    • @lelandcheng7390
      @lelandcheng7390 3 роки тому

      @@zxccxz164 I pretty much always play as the 4 hunters, because I can never get my family to play. It's not their favorite game, and my kids only want to play as Dracula. But I don't mind. I think the Hunters' role more challenging than Dracula. Dracula seems like he has all the advantages.

    Great review! I appreciate your critiques. I am glad they delayed the release.
    A Game of Thrones launched with a multitude of bugs and games glitch out to this day. Fury is my favorite board game next to Thrones.

    Question = did the team deliver on the updates/patches for the game?

    • @CultoftheCyberSkull
      @CultoftheCyberSkull  2 роки тому

      I haven't tracked it too carefully since launch, but I have seen a number of content updates through my Steam news tab, so they definitely have been addressing things with it!

    I think you've overlooked the one question I had. Can you play local multiplayer with it, and how does the game keep Drac's info and the hunters' info secret from each other while doing so? In short, is this a suitable replacement for the tabletop game given that the cardboard version is sold out everywhere? Thanks.

    • @CultoftheCyberSkull
      @CultoftheCyberSkull  4 роки тому +1

      I don't think it will ever truly replace the cardboard version because I just don't think that video games can replace the dynamic you get at a real table. My understanding is that the game has local multiplayer (pass-to-play, hotseat, and couch co-op), and any hidden movements are based on the honour system. Truthfully, I haven't tried this mode myself so I can't say for certain. Just going by what information I know second hand. Hope that heklps!

  • @BeyondTheLineProductions

    So how do you play offline without players seeing each other hands and movements etc? Or is it really only made for online?

    • @CultoftheCyberSkull
      @CultoftheCyberSkull  2 роки тому

      That I'm not sure how to answer. When I made the video, I only tested it by myself and never tried the hotseat mode or anything like that. I think maybe the community can help you out more. Maybe try the Steam discussion boards for the game? I would imagine it probably warns you when it's time to switch the active player, though.

    How does hot seat on the same machine work?

    • @CultoftheCyberSkull
      @CultoftheCyberSkull  3 роки тому

      I haven't tried it, but from what I understand, you take turns to make your moves and use the honour system to make sure there's no cheating involved.

      @@CultoftheCyberSkull or if you have two monitors maybe one can use split screen?

    • @CultoftheCyberSkull
      @CultoftheCyberSkull  3 роки тому

      @@borg9355 I don't think the game is able to project a single board on two different screens for pass-and-play, but it would be a cool idea to explore.

      Я не очень люблю использовать числа, потому что они слишком произвольны. Для меня 7 означает нечто совершенно иное для кого-то другого. Все, что я могу сказать, это то, что он мне нравится, и могу рекомендовать его, если вы фанат настольных игр.

    I LOVE Fury of Dracula, and I only resent not being able to find enougth people to play with it as much as I would like... so I probably will end up buying it to play it solo...
    ...but the main concern I find with it is the concept itself. I mean; as a "game master"; I usually take on me the task of owning the games, inviting my friends home to game-nigths, explaining the rules... more often that not, I find that players usually need a lot of incetives to play board games. Even my most hardcore gamer friends find themselves intimidated by long, conplicated game sessions; and a dismotivated player can easilly ruin a session...
    That being said; if I want to play to Fury of Dracula on this COVID times, this digital version seems perfect... until I see that every one of the players needs to purchase their own copy of the game. Of course, I can play with strangers online; but if I want to play with my usuall group of gamers, convincing them to each purchase their own copy will be rather impossible.
    I know its a tricky question, but I wonder if that could be inproved... Maybe offer a "game master" pack; where you pay an extra (60€, like the phisicall copy; maybe) and offers you a password-based sistem to invite steam users to join the games just for a single match... Don't now. Some free-to-play games include sistems like that...

    • @CultoftheCyberSkull
      @CultoftheCyberSkull  4 роки тому

      Sometimes, games will offer four-packs at a discounted price specifically to achieve the ends you're talking about. I know that Tabletop Simulator does exactly this (and is very much worth checking out if you want to play many, many more board games). Hopefully, Fury of Dracula will have something like this in the future! Or offering a demo mode or something similar.

    Can't agree more with regard to the game board and color palette problems. While I can understand why the developers may have gone for brighter, contrasting colors for "design" and accessibility reasons, it gives the game a real "cheap" feeling. As someone who has been playing this game since the 80s, this is/was the biggest "turn off" for me; it just doesn't capture the gloomy 19th century "feel" of the original board game at all.
