Thank you for these ranking videos! It really showa how much work you put into them and it is compelling to hear your thoughts on these movies. Personally I was really happy to see you rank Amelie and Kimi no Na wa so high, they are ones of my all-time favorites! About Suzumi: I heard a story that Makoto Sinkai really wanted for two leads to be engaged in a lesbian relationship. But the studio went against it. And so Makoto turned male lead into a chair for almost all of the movie length out of spite (: I am a huge fan of Makoto Sinkai works. My personal favorites are "Kotonoha no Niwa" and "Dareka no Manazashi" (which is actually a short). Can't recommend all of his works enough though.
Yeah, I watched Taxi Driver a couple years ago on a recommendation and felt the same. I think I was telling someone about Nightcrawler, and it reminded him of this. A bit odd, and really not that crazy considering. Maybe I know more mentally unstable people than your average viewer. I think I fell asleep before it ended. I agree about long movies. Only ONE gets to be over three hours, and that is Apocalypse Now Redux. Haven't heard of that Paper moon movie, but I got my fair share of Native American history from reading Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. And to a lesser extent, Empire of the Summer Moon. You know, if just a couple more native warriors hadn't survived battle to be interviewed later, the true stories of what happened out there would never have been told. Of course by the time I read those books, I had already completed some genocide studies and related courses, so I can't say I was surprised. But I don't forget for one minute of any day how shitty people are if you put them in the position where they think they can get away with it. Oh goodness, I have to complain about Revenge of the Sith again. The way they went from one scene to the next and all of a sudden he is evil was just not believable. For Anakin to be that easy to manipulate, the movie should have had earlier scenes that showed a stronger attachment to his mom or Padme. Star Wars films are not brooding or introspective, all the characters show all of their emotions as they feel them. If the tension in him was so strong, that in one scene he gives up on the justice and sacrifice he was pursuing, then they should have foreshadowed him being close to breaking earlier. It's not that the reasons aren't good, it's that the transformation was shown poorly. I never got over it. 😂 Loved Amelie. I think the existing theatrical poster is appropriate, because it lets you know that the movie you are going to watch is going to be a bit odd. Don't have any recommendations myself. I lost all my DVDs one of the times I moved, so I don't even remember what my favorite movies were anymore. I just know that when netflix went from mail-order to streaming, I never could find the stuff I liked anymore. And you know, most of the movie watching happened in my 20s, and in a lot of ways I am a completely different person. Optimism is fragile, and I don't need reminders of how I used to think. I am very sleep-deprived and so will edit this later, in case I said things poorly
