Depends how long and what condition it’s been sitting in. But usually most bikes sit for 2-5 years so it’s probably fine. It would be better to use the kick. But oil is a good tip.
if they sit longer than 6 months I always fog the cylinders. The oil that helps lube the rings drains down to the pan after some time. It takes minutes to pull the plugs. No reason not to do it.

DO NOT just crank the start button on a bike that has been sitting for years. Use some fogging oil before hand.
