    Higher gas price is an issue for me too, but I still believe that I would rather spend a bit more for gas than much more for repairs or buying a new(er) vehicle every 5 or 7 years if I buy anything else but this truck. Have you guys seen how much the labor rates have gone up. One major issue with your domestic truck and all the savings for the gas would go down the drain very, very quickly.

      Pay a little more for gas? You mean a lot more...

    • @bryanangelov
      @bryanangelov Рік тому

      @@javilink7 There are few trucks that are not as thirsty as my Tundra, and I am talking real MPG. The GM"s 3.0 diesel and Ford's 2.7 gas engine are very efficient. The rest are good on paper, but in the real world they are not as fuel efficient as they claim. At the end of the day, if you need a truck, you will pay a lot of money for it, gas/diesel it does not matter. If you have an American truck from the big 3, you will pay for repairs too. Whichever way you go, you will spend a lot of money.
      My truck payment is $890 per month. I bought it brand new for 56k OTD. I spent $550 for gas per month on average. We drive the truck about 18,000 miles per year. Gas is expensive in WA, $4.69 at Costco. It is not cheap, but repairs are not cheap either. I have not had a single issue yet. In addition, all new trucks cost at least 10k or more compared to my truck and the trim level.
      Considering the price premium and the higher interest rates, just the truck payments of the new 2023/2024 truck would be $400 to $600 more per month compared to my payments. So, at the end of the day, it is all about how much it will cost you, and although my truck's 14MPG is concerning, the savings I am getting from not having costly repairs and that my truck is 10k to 15k cheaper, it ends up that I am saving money rather than spending more when you compare oranges to oranges.

      These 5.7 are absolute pigs on gas. Second worst MPG of all trucks. Worst MPG is Titan w the 5.6. They are good trucks but it cost too much to run and parts are expensive. Rather a domestic truck. Parts and service are much cheaper as is gas consumption. Engines w cylinder deactivation can be tuned off or deleted. Id rather get 17-18mpg than 10-12.

    I have a 2014 Tundra with 170k miles. Bought it new in 2014. It looks new underneath and would look new inside with a good cleaning. It drives like new, tows like a dream, no strange noises, no lights on, no having to explain how something doesn't work. I've put a battery in it, on my 4th set of tires, 3rd set of brakes, I've changed the oil, trans fluid and gear fluids, along with flush the brake fluid, power steering fluid and change the air filters and coolant. It's almost due for another set of spark plugs. Notice I've never mentioned a water pump, alternator, ABS module, headliner, blinker adaption device module, left brake shoe adaptive counter rotate console device module, rear window blind spot mirror module or HVAC wind speed detection module..... like you'd hear from the Big 3.... Heck, most people who are Big 3 people are scared to death of a vehicle with 100k miles on it.

    ‘13 Tundra TRD Crew Max owner here. 5.7 flex fuel engine with 209,000 miles. Regular oil changes, changed the suspension out last Spring, replaced idler pulley, tensioner pulley and serpentine belt last year. Replaced plugs at 120,000. Other than that it’s been issue free. I bought second hand with 48,000 miles at that time. It’s been a great truck. Now for some not so liked things: Last year I purchased a travel trailer, and that’s the only weakness I’ve found in the truck. It will tow it, but I definitely can tell I’ve got it back there. RV weighs 5,900 and I tow it dry. Also the cargo weight is very limited on the truck. Only 1,375 lbs.

    I had an 07 for 9 years and I put over 100k on it with very few issues. My 17 did have a lifter failure that barely squeezed into the warranty period. Other than that, they are very solid trucks. The interiors hold up extremely well and at 150k on my 07, it was still as tight as the day it rolled off the line. I replaced all the shocks around 100k. Of course, I live in the desert which is a huge advantage. Compared to the domestics, they are a notch above IMO. The brand new Tundra? It has way too many bells and whistles. The reliability will decline.

  • @pointbreak8293

    Had a 21 tundra. Good truck but I wouldn’t say bulletproof just imo. I hated the 4 wheel drive feature bc when you go to turn the vehicle while moving, it feels as if you’re going to snap the drive axles and all my other trucks never did this while in 4wd. Toyota then told me that’s normal as we also have a 21 1794 and that one does the exact same thing. Also, the wipers suck on both of the trucks. Toyota replaced the wipers and all they would do is squeal. Cleaned the windshields vigorously and they still are terrible. Had a rattle in the truck bed and Toyota couldn’t find it. They finally told me that the bed bolts were loose on my third time back to another dealer. Still like the trucks but like I say, there are some issues imo that need fixed… nice video sir as just fyi Toyota did keep the rear roll down window on the new 22 tundra crew max like yours. That is a great feature…wish it was offered as well on the double cab lol…👍👍👍

    About the gas mileage.
    I have a 2017 TSS Offroad for a year and I absolutely love it. To be 4WD...I'm getting 15.7 mpg in my day to day driving. I can't complain about that with a 6700 lb truck. Once, I filled it up and drove 65 mph for 120 miles on the 4 lane and got 18.1 mpg.
    For those that say they get 11-13 mpg, you can't complain about that if you're jacking it up and putting on gigantic tires, or you're constantly towing something.

    My 2007 has almost 184k miles on mine. It still starts right up and sounds exactly like a new truck. I just took it on a long trip last weekend, and it runs fantastic. And, it's paid for. It drives like new, so I won't be buying another truck any time soon.

    It might cost you $5-8 dollars more a fillip than some other trucks but that $400 a month is BS. You still have to put gas in all of them. 3-4 more miles per gallon isn't anywhere near as big a savings deal as most make it out to be. Example 1500 miles a month at 15mpg is 100 gallons at $4=$400. 1500 at 20mpg is 75 gallons =$300. In truth I average 17 in both my Tundras so even less$. $1200 a year is going to take a looking time to make up for spending $60-80,000 on a new one to get 3-4 more mpg.

    • @andrewinaustintx
      @andrewinaustintx 2 роки тому +1

      Gas has come down to $4.00 a gallon where I live - but I did the math for what I would save at $5.00/gallon and the savings with a newer truck and it would be $83.00 per 1000 miles.
      20 MPG @ $5.00 = $0.25 per mile
      15 MPG @ $5.00 = $0.33 per mile
      Your own mileage may vary - but even with a savings of $1,000 per year - with the payoff of a new truck at today's market prices - I figure that it would take more than one decade to any savings pertaining to fuel. I'm figuring more than $50K out the door for the features I already have on my present beast, which is paid for. Also, my insurance would have to go up.

    I bought a 2003 Highlander V6 4WD new, as of now it has 400,000 hard miles, as still runs like new and everything still works. That's why I bought a 2016 Sequoia new, which only has 80,000 as of now. You just need to learn how to drive that 5.7 conservatively. I can average 21-22 m.p.g with my Sequoia on the highway, if I take it easy, OR I can get 11 m.p.g !! if I always keep my foot into it. That's why everyone complains about the gas mileage, they can't keep the r.p.m' s down. Just baby the thing, let it shift under 2,000 r.p.m's, there's so much torque, no need to rev it up, that just sucks down more fuel. I've always Wondered "How Many Fords, Chevy's, and Dodges Does It Take To Equal One Toyota" ? " The World May Never Know " !!!

The tundra is the only truck made in America, and it is no question the best truck made. Yes Toyota has issues with new models, once they are figured out they last forever. If you are a true American and want American made, get a tundra. If you drive a Chevy, ford, or dodge…..your truck is hecho en Mexico.

    At the 10 mpg the tundra gets at 100k you would use 10,000 gallons at $3 gal that’s $30 grand. The other 2 trucks get around 20 mpg so would consume half that or $15 grand.

Only reason I got rid of it was I should have bought a 4wd. Mpg weren’t amazing. I have a short commute and avg around 14 mpg city. Hand calculated. When going on a vacation I saw 16.7 lol but that was “moving with the flow of traffic” or 80ish. My coworker has seen 19 out of his on a long trip.

Even towing water tanks out into the desert in 100 degree weather at 3 to 5 MPH over rocky dirt hilly roads my truck has NEVER overheated. They obviously learned from this costly issue and have greatly improved metal quality and coating techniques to fix this issue.
