    It's way more than likely the Japanese were rather stunned that Wyatt was wearing a tank top, shorts, and slippers given the Fall weather. If it was summer, it wouldn't be unusual. But Tokyo is normally very cool in mid-November (usually highs in the low 60's), and you will discover that the ambient temperature in stores and other Japanese establishments tend to be significantly higher than in the US, something for which the Japanese prefer.

      @@WyattandReyka I'm American, in California. But I have been travelling to Japan annually until the pandemic struck when she closed her borders in 2020, three days before I was scheduled to arrive for a long-term stay.
      As this is your first trip to Japan and Tokyo, if you are planning to travel about the city, I suggest obtaining the 1, 2, or 3 day Tokyo Subway Pass (which costs 800, 1200, or 1500 yen respectively) for foreign visitors (you will need to show your passport to purchase). It is good for both the Tokyo and Toei subway companies (but is not valid for the JR train lines such as the Yamanote line), and is great if you are planning to get on and off a subway line to check out the corresponding area (as a comparison, tickets for single use start at 170 yen). You may buy these passes at major subway stations with a manned ticket counter, some major hotels, some BIC stores, some Laox stores, and at both airports (there is also a Common 1 day Open Ticket good for both the Tokyo and Toei subway lines that you can purchase from the ticket machines that cost 900 yen for the 24 hours from first use). The only downside is both the pass and Open Ticket does not include the JR trains in the city like the circular Yamanote line. (But there is a 1 day "Tokyo Combination Ticket, for 1590 yen which is good for the Tokyo and Toei Subway companies, some buses, and the Yamanote Line). Now that I have probably confused you, just enjoy your time in Japan, and especially Tokyo. It is truly one of the great cities on our planet.
      PS. Just remember that train and subway lines shut down at midnight for maintenance.

    • @WyattandReyka
      @WyattandReyka  Рік тому +2

      @@mattsoca1 Thank you so much for all that helpful information! It can be hard to understand the system and what is most cost effective, so you really helped us out! And no, you didn't confuse us hahahaha. Don't worry. We appreciate your help.
      Sorry to hear your trip got cancelled in 2020. Are you planning to come to Tokyo again anytime soon?
      And it is definitely one of the coolest places we have ever been. We love Japan and the Tokyo atmosphere is just unlike anything else really.

    • @kayflip2233
      @kayflip2233 Рік тому +2

      Yeah, also Tokyo is pretty urbane and sophisticated. Even in the Summer no one wears a tank top, shorts and slippers in Tokyo, so he stood out a lot. Street fashion can get quite experimental in Japan, but even loud and colorful streetwear and pink hair is less shocking than Wyatt's outfit in the late Fall. Tokyo is the richest city in the world by GDP per capita so you have a lot of very conservative corporate people. On top of that, the culture is just very polished and formal.

    Thanks for sharing. I lived in Japan for a while and it’s normal to get stared at if you are Western looking- your vest and flip flops probably looked odd, too as the Japanese tend to cover up skin more. Hmmm fair thought lol as we took them off to film outside, but we had masks on on the metro! And that is where most folks were staring. We think people looked more because of what I was wearing, but it was also probably because we are foreigners in a country that just opened up to tourism.

    On the issue of masks, 2/3 of Japanese would prefer not wearing one but do so because of peer pressure. There is an increased focus on the harmful effects of masks especially for the children that have now worn masks for nearly 3 years. Some Japanese parents refuse to wear masks as it influences the behavior of kids and seek an allowance for their kids not to wear them. Many Japanese doctors are starting to point out that non-verbal queues are significantly underdeveloped in Children and the masks are the equivalent of an experiment on children. As with any culture, there are layers and Japan has more layers and subtleties than most.
