I had a 1987 Dodge Raider. (Same thing with Dodge badges). My parents purchased it in 88. I was driving it in 96 when I was 16y/o and the head cracked. Parents put a rebuilt motor in it and my sister took it to collage. I got an S10. Fast forward 10 years and I got it back from my parents. There was a lot of fun had in that little red Raider but it’s time came to sell it. Enjoy it while you have it for sure.
Not a car guy at all, but this surprisingly kept my attention the whole time. Good shot choice. Music and pace was spot on. Just wait Uebb, this is only the beginning!
My first and second one of these were 4g54, a gen 1 and a gen 2. I now have a gen 2 with a 6g72 and wish it was a 4g54 because of the simplicity. All swb models. Love them.

A very rare vehicle here in England , I’ve had all sorts of newer trucks from ford and Mitsubishi but that little dodge raider AKA Mitsubishi montero aka Mitsubishi shogun mk1 was my favourite by far, someone pulled out on me at 30mpg destroyed the Ford Fiesta with zero damage to mine bar from a scuff on the bull bar... epic machine

Hello I have a 1987 dodge raider With a new diesel engine Can you direct me to the snorkel vendor Once I get it inside the engine compartment no problem to hook up THANKS
nice review. I just picked up an '89 SWB Raider (so, same thing as the Montero). And I also have a RWD rally car (e30 that we run in ARA, NASA, and rallycross), Looking forward to getting this Raider back on the road (bought it with a blown engine).

Awesome video! I got one of those only mine is turbo diesel and has an intercooler, besides that it's almost the same! Also mine had entire engine replaced by a 2nd generation Mitsubishi engine year 2000. I love the height and inner space, it feels like riding a small tank. do you know if Dodge Raider parts are entirely compatible with Monteros from the same year?
Lol mine has 340,000 miles on it and i havent had to add oil since i bought it 5 months ago. Now i changed the oil. Might wanna beat up whoever owned it before you.
Back in the early 90s I ran those weber carbs on some rally car/off road builds and really liked them. If you look hard enough you might be able to find a bolt up webber to tube style filter adapter. Either by finding the weber factory one online. Or even finding the right old 4cyl car that came with that carb factory and use that. I think some omni years and pintos.
Really cool truck man! Love your rally car too! Don't they both share the same four banger ?? 4g54 (or g54b)? I also have a 1987 shorty! Found your post on the mitsubishi monteros usa fb page
Yep they share the same engine! totally different though. the montero is the slowest vehicle i own and the 5g54 in the rally car is fully built makes 250hp!
Great video! I just recently acquired one and as a self proclaimed novice when it comes to this stuff, your edit was very informative and helpful. Have any other resources you like specific to this model/make for someone who's not such a gear head? Thanks in advance!
@@CrossRutFilms just basic stuff, like your tip about the Mitsubishi burning lots of oil and the product you recommended. Perhaps any blogs/vids or other resources pertaining to this older Montero that you also maybe found useful. Thanks very much!
i got an mk2 with the 6g74 if it is burning oil verify all the head seals after i change that in mine it stopped burning oil. I can not be more happy with my swb monster
Hello, great video thank you. I have a question for you. I just bought a 1988 Monti 2 door. I am wondering how can I identify this engine? Might not be the OG. I know it's a 4 cylinder that looks very similar to yours. But I recently went to autozone to buy some oil and filter. They gave me whatever the comp calls for which the oil filter does match the description. It is much smaller on the engine I currently have. Any info will be much appreciated. Ty
says it's super cheap. I can't find one anywhere. Someone wants way more than $1900 for a (diesel) one. only cheap ones up here are RHD autos. where do I looook?
But what kind of OIL mileage is it getting? And do you think maybe the oil mileage is tricking you into believing your MPGs are better than they are? You have to consider ALL the possibilities... Haha, nice little toy.
On my 87, I also changed carbs, but I modified the air cleaner box to fit the new carb. Worked great, looked stick til you took the filter box off revealing the carb. Shame to have the snorkel as nothing more than non-functional decoration.

You failed to mention the best real suspension seat in a 4x4. I’m surprised Jeep has not utilized this setup years ago, damn bean counters.
