Thanks for sharing! As a psychiatrist I hear such stories every day. As with any infectious disease sufferers tend to not talk about it which enables ignorance and dismissal

Great to see you back. Some channels I watch for pure sailing. Some channels I watch because of the vibe. Most often the vibe between a couple. Loved how Aansha looked after you and how you responded to her. Very much the vibe that attracts me to you channel in the first place. I hope the best for both Baz and Aansha.

Wow, thank you for sharing that Olav. I [Aannsha] probably wasn't as patient in the early days as I could have been. Until I realised just how difficult it was for Baz. But now, we're taking it a day at a time.

Dear Aannsha & Bas, happy to see you back!
I would say take your time. Give your body the time to heal it self. You can’t force nature….
You can only help. Take your rest, live healthily, go for brisk walks…. You’re not in a bad place for all of that……
Small steps at a time…. The world can wait, this is all about you both.

Glad to see you back! I pray for a full recovery for you. I had it in January this year. My experience I had terrible sore throat, body aches, fevers and night sweats for about 4 days. After that it took a couple days to feel normal I suppose, but since I've had constant joint pains in my knees and shoulders. Something I never had before. Many days I have to take ibuprofen in the morning to go about my day normally. Take your time recovering and I've joined up for your monthly to help if I can.

It's good to see you coming back to some sort of normality. Time is a healer, but also not putting yourselves under pressure. Putting weekly videos out is hard work. Many who watch don't realise how much effort goes into making interesting content. It's easy to see Baz isn't himself yet, but you will get there. Little steps, choose your time to go out sailing. I have missed the two of you very much. I am relieved to see you again. First, Aannsha, you look marvelous. I'm digging the new do. It looks fantastic on you. It's a youthful vibe.
Baz, so good to hear your voice again. Sorry to hear that COVID has taken its toll on you. Your textbook description of symptoms is echoed by many long COVID sufferers. Many studies have shown that COVID has hit men harder than women. It seems women generally are more resistant to infections than men. The good news is you have a wonderful wife by your side to help nurse you through. Listening to the two of you I realize how difficult the past months have been. I hope and pray the worst is behind you and the road to recovery is in sight. 🤗🤗

Not nearly as severe but several of your experiences have been very similar to mine between the time I was positive and months before when I had a booster. I caught it at the beginning of December 2020 and ended up twice in hospital with covid pneumonia on both lungs. It was a bit touch and go for a while but managed to get a bit better so was released from hospital with all sorts of breathing exercises diet and physical exercises to get walking again and getting up and down stairs. To this day I still suffer from breathing issues and fatigue and finally started some intense testing CT scans Lung function and loads more. I do suffer from getting up and stepping off balance also not confident about stepping across things though I don't suffer from vertigo or fear of heights. I did also have a nervous breakdown and lost my business but that was more pandemic strains on cash-flow and the mental stress of trying to survive. 17 months on and still having problems but hopefully they will learn more about long covid and its ongoing affect on one people. Wishing you a full recovery and hopefully get you back out to sea soon.

Good to see you guys back. Just thought I’d mention that I had very mild COVID but experienced a couple of episodes where my balance went completely and I could hardly stay standing. Scary in the middle island of the road with traffic. Couldn’t move, had to wait until nothing was in sight before crossing. Spoke to other people with similar experiences.

(Baz) Thanks for sharing Eric. I think my use of the word vertigo was incorrect. Rather it is more of a thought/sensation that my legs are going to give way and I will tumble and fall. I just walked down the two very small steps out of the shower block here at Finike marina and felt like I was about to lose my balance and fall. This is crazy shit.

So sorry to hear this Baz! A friend of ours went through a very similar experience after Covid and he actually left his wife on holiday because his cognitive function completely went….he didn’t eat or sleep for 6 days and went missing in the UK - luckily he was found but so far no one can say what happened other than perhaps he had an ‘infection’ or it was Covid related. I (Laura) had a very similar thing when I went through my big fybromyalgia flare up and it took me a while to find my confidence again - but I’m fine now. We wish you a speedy recovery and hope you get back on the ocean again soon and soon all this will be a distant memory for you xx

Happy to hear you are making a solid recovery. You still look a bit out of sorts, so hopefully that will improve with time. Luckily we live in Vietnam and both the original and Delta variants of Covid-19 were handled with minimum impact in numbers of cases. Omicron came along and went through the country like a case of Delhi Belly. We both caught it in Feb and the experience was much different from yours and was a much more flu like dose with minimal after effects.
Anyway, keep at it and keep your pecker up.

So good to see you back, although I am so sorry that Baz is not yet fully recovered. Baz, your description of your symptoms is very, very similar to mine. Clearly the neuro group of long covid symptoms as other posters have suggested. I had to stop working and driving after having covid, but am much improved now. I am driving again, and have also more recently been taking sailing lessons, which is a joy. Time is a great healer, but for me I found a very low carbohydrate/ketogenic diet really helped with the anxiety, fear and brain fog. I have joined your Patreon to help take the pressure off while you recover, and wish you both all the very best.

Glad to see you back. Touring antiquity is aa wonderful as sailing. 15:30 According to the UNESCO World Heritage Center web page about the Aqueducts of the Ancient City of Aspendos, "An inscription was found stating that one Tiberius Claudius Italicus spent 2 million denarii to build an aqueduct at Aspendos." If a denarii at that time had 6.81 grams of silver, I believe that works out (using today's silver price) to just shy of 10 million US dollars. Seems cheap, but so were slaves (unlike stone masons). 12:38 like 54nathanael said, that is a conglomerate. I believe that region of Turkey is surrounded by a wedge of rocks called the "Pamphylian Suture". Turkey is currently rotating counter-clockwise and to the southwest (about at the rate that your fingernail grows), by the Eurasian, Arabian, and African plates. That in turn has been pushing wedges of the ancient Mediterranean's ocean floor sideways and up onto Turkey. That ocean floor can experiences submarine debris flows called turbidites (making conglomerates) as the wedge was being pushed up, likely cemented by calcite/lime, some 60-20 million years ago. Since then, I think locally the Eurymedon river has been eroding that wedge, leaving some resistant hills of cemented conglomerate. Hills with steep sides are the sort of places that the Hittites, Greeks, and Romans loved to build upon (for defensive purposes).

From what I read, this sounds very much like long COVID, mate. Specifically, the neuropsychiatric group of long COVID complications. I suggest you may want to see a neuropsychiatric specialist to help you manage this. This is an active area of research as far as I understand so I don’t know whether you can find such a specialist in Turkey. Maybe some supervised use of mild antidepressants and anti-anxiety drugs could help?Good luck and take it easy. Btw, wonderful new haircut Aannsha.

It's so strange - the symptoms you're talking about are the same I've been dealing with - but had not associated with C*V*D. I can sleep for ten hours at a time - and have to force myself to get up. The cough - and the kidney back pain too. Shortness of breath . I've got a doctors appointment for June 6th - we'll have to do a triage to determine a priority list of recovery.
Regarding you - sounds like trouble if you have a sailing channel on UA-cam - but can't go sailing anymore. It might be time to become a land-lubber and broker your Turkish centric knowledge of sailing to some English speaking sailors.

Hi Guys: Victoria and I are neuropsychologists and we have begun to see patients who have been diagnosed with Long Covid. Since the virus can evade the blood-brain barrier and enter the brain some individuals who have contracted COVID have experienced mild to severe compromise of neurocognitive functions (e.g., memory, concentration, judgment, decision-making). Others have experienced changes in their sense of self, no longer feeling the person they used to be and/or developing a range of fears or phobias in reaction to the perceived loss of identity and self. Other neurological processes like balance, energy, libido, etc. can and often are compromised as well. The prognosis for Long Covid as well as optimal treatments is still in the early stages of understanding and development so I can't give you much information for now about that. I can confirm that your hypothesis about what you are suffering from is very likely correct. At this point, it is reasonable to expect that with time you will recover most if not all of your affected processes and functioning. How long this will take and how much you will recover is a question. A few recommendations if you don't mind. First, if you haven't already, I would have a comprehensive evaluation with a neurologist. If you haven't had an MRI of your brain, I would suggest you do so. If you have concerns about your level of cognitive functioning and competence, an evaluation with a neuropsychologist would be quite helpful, especially as a means of objectively tracking your recovery progress. Lastly, just an observation and it may not be accurate, but you seemed very tentative and anxious in the video. What you have and are experiencing is deeply traumatic and you may benefit from some counseling or psychotherapy as an aid in dealing with all you have been and are still going through. Hope this was helpful and feel free to reach out if I can be of any further help. Now enough about you, and get back to making those great videos Victoria and I so much enjoy. Best and be well. Rick and Vic
