Having had kidney stones, I agree with the comments that the symptoms are similar. Note that I have had stones whilst sailing due to dehydration. Alcohol will dehydrate you and make the situation worse. An ultrasound of your kidneys will reveal whether you have stones but will not tell you whether you had them and passed them.
@@SailingABSea You might need a urine analysis also to check for tell tale blood in your urine. Having a diclofenac anti-inflammatory plus muscle relaxant agent injection at the ready in the boat won't hurt either. Aannsha will be able to administer it easily in your butt muscle.
@@SailingABSea it is difficult to determine levels of hydration. Lots of factors - though water intake is clearly very important. Though it sounds disgusting, I have learned to judge from colour of pee.
Glad to know you are getting better and should hopefully be back to your usual self very soon. Sure would have been a different story if you had not been been close to shore and had access to what seems to be a great medical facilities. Take care and be safe.
Baz - sounds 100% like a kidney stone - starts in the back - moves - jagged little edges cutting it's way to the sea. 11/10 pain (I had ten hours of out of my mind pain) pain subsides - but still with the low/mid dull pain. If it kicks in again - and goes 10/10 again - it's certainly a stone. It took 57 days to pass my first - and have have three more since. If it's less than .5mm - it'll pass on it's own - if it's bigger - you might need intervention. Keith on Sailing Zatara had a .9mm stone at sea - and passed it in two weeks. What you described was 100% to me a kidney stone attack.
You need to pee in a cup to catch the stone. You will need to see how big the stone was - and it's mineral content. Surprised that the doctors didn't suggest it - or do an ultrasound to identify and measure.
@@SailingABSea - Also - I did have a bowel spasm earlier this year - lasted about 5 hours - felt like a kidney stone - but was a little different. Took some Castor Oil and flushed my guts good and clean. If it happens again - and you don't have a stone - let Aannsha give you some oil that will clean you out like a 10 year old boy. That would be some good content!
Glad your up and about. Think about the previous 24 hours before it started. Any heavy lifting, any twisting especially holding weight. May have pinched a nerve or pulled the muscle. Think about diet previous 24 hours also. Glad it worked out.
(Baz) These are questions that the first doctor asked me. No trauma, no boat jobs, no lifting. We have been on a low carb diet for a few months now, so nothing unusual.

Just caught up with your most recent, glad to hear you are A-OK. As a matter of interest, how do you handle your banking in Turkey? If you have covered this elsewhere just let me know where. Cheers.
Most places in Turkey we pay with our Australian currency card. We also use that card to get cash from an ATM. We have only recently opened a Turkish bank account and now have a Turkish debit card.
I have had the same thing happen. I had all the same tests, finally I went to an old English Physio practitioner. She told me that a vertebrae in line with your diaphragm can pinch a nerve cluster that runs around the front of your chest. When it spasms or I stress it by reaching up too much it bites. I agree with the 11 grade pain, it seems to paralyse your diaphragm and chest so every breath hurts like hell and it hurts to move. I also get pain on the right side up under the rib cage. Most of the time it’s fine but when it plays up I resort to heat pads on my back, vibrator, or stretching out the spine. Quite often my back does not even hurt very much while the pain in my chest/ diaphragm is extreme. Not saying that is what it is but my wife said straight away when she saw the video “that’s you”.
The insurance is a compulsory component of obtaining temporary Turkish residency. When the insurance is issued there is a disclaimer that states that certain procedures and conditions are not covered in the first 12 months. Everything is covered when you take out a second year policy with the same insurer.
Its fatique.everything you said.I get when i have been working long hours and not enough sleep.I use deep heat.A freind of mine also gets the same as you explained. He does not work, but is type 2 diabetic.I am on the mouse on my laptop 12 hours a day for over a year now because this covid. So its not being on the mouse.

Okay, after seeing the title, initial reaction was “after all the sea food you have been indulging in with all that supposed Omega3 currently in vogue?”. Then Sleep Apnea? @@SailingABSea - good news - it is a stone - the slow dull pain in the majority of the passage. Like I said - my first one took 57 days - with 55 of them in the little to no pain - and the dull pain was never far away. Dull pain means its moving through your system.
(Baz) Thanks for that insight Ron. It does sound very similar.
Renal colic is No.1 on my list.
That seems to be the consensus Ian. 👍
Good to hear your doing better, interested to understand why insurance won’t pay out in first year?
The insurance is a compulsory component of obtaining temporary Turkish residency. When the insurance is issued there is a disclaimer that states that certain procedures and conditions are not covered in the first 12 months. Everything is covered when you take out a second year policy with the same insurer.
Look up Floating Rib Syndrome and see if you have any of the same symptoms. I have it and I am in constant pain with it.
That's ans interesting avenue of thought, thanks. 👍
Good morning Baz. Do you wear a CPAP machine while you sleep?
Yes I do!
At first I am thinking kidney stone, but lasting 2 weeks, wow. Hope they find out what it is soon.
(Baz) That thought did cross my mind but surely with all the scans they would've noticed something.
That's an interesting angle. Cheers. 👍
Good thing you weren't in the US , You would have had to sell the boat to pay for an aspro . I know Yous get around a bit but exercise is a must as we age a bit (not just the fingers) Says me sitting her in front of the laptop Ha , Good to see your coming right , Fair winds .
(Baz) Oh the irony, cheers Bill.
Stay Safe Mate and drink more Wine :)
(Baz) Thank you doctor. 😀 👍
Okay, after seeing the title, initial reaction was “after all the sea food you have been indulging in with all that supposed Omega3 currently in vogue?”. Then Sleep Apnea? My wife suffer back and chest pain, she ended up using her CPAP for extra oxygen, ended up fluid in the lungs due to pneumonia, oxygen, pain killers etc. you are lucky you got away alive and Cheap compared to North America.
We hope that your wife makes a full recovery. We are very impressed by the Turkish health system. 👍
Hello Baz and Aannsha, I am glad you are feeling better!
Our hospitals are very good indeed ! Much better than Canada.
I lived in Canada for a while so, knowing both system i can compare them easily
Here for 2 dental implant they quote me $12.000 which brought tears into my eyes!
I got it done in Turkiye for $600 cnd both. And my doctor asked me where i got it done
they did an AMAZING JOB!
But our doctors are not getting paid fairly over here and
they are leaving Turkiye for Europe
our USA. Thanks to Erdogan we are now having shortages of medication as well
I hope next election Turkish people will make wiser decision and we will get rid of bloody Erdogan.
If not sadly dark days are ahead of us .
Agreed that the Turkish health system is amazing. 👍
Any thing new to report health wise? Just thinking of how you're doing.
(Baz) Hi mate, there's still an ache in the right hand side back muscle. Some days it's a 1, some days it's a 2. Apart from that I'm feeling totally normal. I think a trip to a local hammam for a good massage will help. Cheers.
@@SailingABSea - good news - it is a stone - the slow dull pain in the majority of the passage. There will be a flair up here and there but it won't last long - then it will go back to a dull pain again - as it works its way out. Like I said - my first one took 57 days - with 55 of them in the little to no pain - and the dull pain was never far away. Dull pain means its moving through your system. You might have a couple of more episodes of 10/10 pain - but they won't last too long - but they will kick you ass up over your head. The good news is you don't die from this - it just hurts - and takes a bit of time. My 2nd 3rd and 4th episodes were pretty tame to the first and pass in less than 2 weeks.
(Baz) That's interesting info Murray. Thanks for sharing. 👍
🤝👍
Cheers mate.
So Glad your feeling better ....Canada's medical is extremely poor..... free means very very poor service .
Attitudes are bad and Moral is at a all time low .....
God for bid you need medical here your liable to die before you get any one's attention .....
Good thing you were in a country that has realistic costs .....I had a 30 min MRI 1 month ago Cost ??? $700.00... If i waited for the public system it was a one year wait .
Yup moving
Medical costs in certain countries do not realistically represent the services provided. We are very impressed with Turkey. 👍
Typical Insurance then . Its so easy to strain the body as you get older
(Baz) Yes, I'm realizing that I am no longer 30 years old. 😀
@@SailingABSea same here 56 still like to jump around like I'm 16
Like most comments kidney stones. The other idea is vitamin e shortage, much more of a long shot than kidney stones but easy to remedy
(Baz) The kidney stone scenario is looking likely. 👍
Please go a get a diabetes test, sleep apnea is linked to b1 deficiency and high glucose levels
I have recently started taking a daily B complex supplement. 👍
