- This is a story about a kid who was overlooked by everyone, never recruited to play D1 college ball, yet learned to harness the power of the chip on his shoulder to overcome extraordinary odds and how a bond of friendship can take you far beyond what you ever thought was possible.

From all of us who love these videos, tell your parents thank you for filming so much when you guys were younger. It adds so much to these stories!
Seriously. The old school footage is such magic
That reveal line was the best: "Let's bring Tri to USC"
Well played sir lol
I was expecting someone I didn't know, and then I was like "TRI BOURNEEE?!?!"
@@themckibbinbrothers I didn't know enough about Tri's story for me to clue in from the thumbnail but I suppose that was the point lol Great job on the pacing of the video as a whole, these story driven vids recently have been great to watch
I swear this dude have the most amazing stories
He has a gift for tell him them too
The fact that you had the guts to tell your future coach "y'all are sleeping on this guy" is insane to me. I think maybe one needed the volleyball IQ necessary to see his potential and that might be easier for teammates to realize than for scouts, but it's still such a gutsy move
Man I was not expecting to start crying while eating lunch
Don’t judge me, I’m emotional 😭
What an incredible story Tri. So many hurdles and here you are dominating the sport 👊🏼 So rad. Riley you crushed once again and got me all emotional 🙏🏼
Can't wait to see the Casey story. I've been following him and his sweet dance moves for years.
You guys are revolutionaries in the volleyball scene. Continuously shedding light on how amazing the past eras were, motivating aspiring players in today's generation, and nostalgic for those who lived the years prior. Keep up the incredible content!
Was watching this video on my phone not realizing my girlfriend was listening into it and she just starts crying. What a solid video. I love Every bit of this story.
The comradery, the intensity, the quality and the density of these videos is amazing guys! The end clip hit diferent tho. Great work!
@@themckibbinbrothers They are literaly (internet version) the defenition of LIT!
Faster alone, further together. Love it.
Thank you for sharing his story. Listening to him do all the broadcast 2 years ago you could hear the pain in his voice when people asked him about playing. I'm glad to see that he stuck with it (as always it seems) and stayed the warrior he is instead of taking the easy road and giving up.
the montage of tri bourne from 2009 all the way until 2021 is so incredible
also not to detract from the great story...but I had to chuckle at baby shoji 1:30 😆
IT IS HIM!!! I was Tri's JV coach when he was in Maryknoll, but I had him as an opposite swing hitter! He could pass and swing at JV from 3M line. On top of that he had good hands like a setter. Thats why I had him as OP.
OMFG I heard he went to USC and I was not surprised at all. I knew he was going to make it. I didn't know he had issues getting recruited. WOW I am so proud of him... wow I so happy, he was one of my kids, good for him!
It says a lot about you and your brother putting out this kind of content; praising another fellow athlete. I always root for you two every AVP.
Also, loved you guys on the Amazing Race. So close!!!
@@themckibbinbrothers I for instance loved the video where you played in Italy behind Vlado Petkovic and Sasa Starovic that got injured that season, since I'm from Serbia I had a chance to meet Vlado few years back, had no clue that you actually played in the same team. What I wanted to say, I think you should when you finish your career definitely go for the coaching position in some shape or form.
When I watched that video, I realized how much of a volleyball sense you had as a setter, the best setters aren't always the ones that set the nicest balls, but the ones that know how to recognize at what point in the game who needs to get the ball and you did that with your undersized middle blocker, which opened path for outside hitters and opposite spiker, since you made their middle's follow your own middle way more. That's why I think you should go into coaching, a lot of coaches that even have degree's in fields of sport, know a lot about vball mechanics, nutrition, body forming, etc, all the relevant things for sure, but they can't tell the story to inspire them, instill that working hard mentality because you worked hard to fight for your position or make a good setter. Setters are really 70% of the team till you get to the really high level of professional play where everyone is good and some small things make a huge difference.
Sorry for the long essay :), but I love your videos and becoming a coach is something that could grow your channel as you retire and stop playing.
Good luck Riley :D
Beautiful story of a friendship!
Well...... you keep playing and now you are here....!🙏👏
These dudes are one of the most underrated content creators on this platform, I swear these stories are full of meanings and lessons that apply to everyone and anyone. It's amazing what you can take out from these videos and how much inspiration you can draw from these. Each video is handcrafted and carefully made. It's amazing.
always loved Tri and his heart and athleticism. Definitely a warrior and I’m always cheering for him
Hi Simon Golding’s son here. He always says how great you guys are and after watching your videos I completely get that now. I love the content you deserve a way bigger following 👍
Oh man! That was so inspiring... Wish I could find someone just like you.. a commited friend to your passion and will constantly push each other on your limits to achieve your goals... Me too I'm a beach volleyball player, but unfortunately I injured my left and right shoulders and that pushes me to lay low for a while and to stop playing... Kinda sucks and frustrating but I know someday I'll get healed and will be back on the sand again... Thank you for your story... It opens a door of hope into my life, at least!
The fact that you care for others success is admiring. This is a beautiful story Riley, it shows your love for the sport and the fact that you want the best to play with you and even against you. Everyone that has that incredible skill deserves a chance. You really did not want anyone getting overlooked! Wonderful video.
Your friend Tri truly stepped up the other day. There was a lot of pressure on him and yet he looked pretty calm. Really happy for him and of course Jake.
Thank you yet again for another really great story! I do think you both reached your “top of the mountain” even if it wasn’t the goal you wanted at the time. When all is said and done and you both hang up your (whatever beach VB players hang up), you can look back and see that you unselfishly helped someone else in a remarkable way and changed their life. And that’s what life should be about. That’s the mountain we should all be climbing. 👏👊🏻
Your elaborate plans are legendary!
Damn, great and inspirational story ! Thanks for sharing this story with us. Greetings from 🇱🇻
Intense! These videos give me motivation to push myself to focus on getting better. Reminds me that the ones who have achieved greatness felt the same way I do now, and they kept working.
Respect
I actually watched your match against the Netherlands because im from the netherlands, i watched it when i wasnt into volleyball yet. And i just remembered how amazed I was by your performances
i watched it live btw
Gotta love these types of “good guys make it” stories. Because we live in a world where “good guys” rarely make it in any aspect of this system we live by. Coming from a fellow Hawai’i boy to another, great stuff and good on you for giving credit where it’s due. You also deserve a ton of credit for recognizing such a person and his circumstances and sacrifices. Your heart is the true champion buddy. 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🙏🏼
What an inspiring story. What an incredible story of taking care of a friend and brother. Amazing storytelling and video editing.
Coming back to this story after hearing about Taylor and watching the "Last Olympian", Tri's story is something out of a Hollywood blockbuster movie, or a top level anime like *cough* *cough* Haikyuu. I'm happy I was able to hear his story from such great storytellers like you guys, and I'm completely invested in Jake's, Tri's, and Taylor's Olympic campaign. OUR BOYS ARE GOING FOR GOLD!!!
And you're still pulling for him - generating visibility and interest for your buddy - you inspire me. (and you make me want to go get my feet in the sand)
This story is taking on a whole new life with recent developments. It should be re-released in a big way!!
This story definitely deserves a different tittle. Such an incredible storytelling and footage is amazing. I had a whole mini movie playing in my head.
I find it amazing how your parents and you have managed to document so many moments and highlights of your career. It makes the viewers feel way more connected and engaged to the incredible stories you guys tell.
Yet again, incredible job Riley! Thank you for motivating us.
@@themckibbinbrothers then we must thank the English Teacher. Lol
Keep it going man!
You guys inspired me with stories and the crazy thing is it changed the way I look at the game its more than Volleyball it's life 💯🙏🏐😊
From experience, you really do improve faster when there is someone there to push you and compete with you everyday. Great story! You two are amazing!
@@themckibbinbrothers Absolutely haha! Wish you two nothing but the best!
subbed. every video of yours got me yelling "NO WAY" in them. i started with the haikyu, then hero to zero, then the greatest upset, then not enough experience, then this one. my favorite was haikyuu then the upset then this one. i jumped out my seat when you told the coach to go watch your friend instead
Amazing content! Tri Bourne is a beast!! So glad that you magnificent storytellers could tell his story! Keep up the amazing work beard bros!
Played against him when he played for maryknoll, nick was the setter, nasty squad!
"If I have seen farther than others, it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants." - Sir Isaac Newton
That quote sums up what Riley did for Tri.
Riley, you are friend of the century for this. These videos are incredible, man.
@@themckibbinbrothers I hope you guys make it out the Van Open again. I was in Greece all of summer 2019 and wasn’t able to referee it that year. In the future braddahs!
Oh man! This story tears my eyes 🥺😀 that phone call you made... woooow, you’re a true friend. So inspiring.
Mad relatable, only I finally got myself out of the middle going into my senior season and last club season
Great video and an even better story.
Right now I am in the almost exact situation. I've played middle since day one of my training simply because there were no good middles on our team and I was stuck there for so long and haven't been recruited to a higher level simply because I'm 6'3 and right now I am on the verge of giving up. This video hit me hard and it's telling me to not stop and give it my all. Thank you 💙
Bruh I just got goose bumps after that phone call, wow!!
Man, you are such a great man! You are the friend everyone needs!🥺
PHENOMENAL storytelling 👏👏👏
This was a great one!!! Hitting the top 5 of y’all’s vids for sure!
I always look forward to your content, always picks me up when I'm having a rough hump day.
Amazing video, bro! I was telling everyone 6 years ago that Tri will become a legend.
Great content you make. Hope Fivb also will understand one day how to work with audience and fans in 21th century 🙄
So much truth! HI loved putting their tallest players in the middle, me being one of them and only 1 trip a year to get recruited. The struggle was real, and I don’t think people from the mainland know how good they had it back in the early 2000s
You guys are taking beach volleyball to the next level! I love what you're doing for this sport! Keep going like you're doing now! You have the best content in UA-cam, I appreciate you guys! Thank you!
What a great story about friendship.
This is so amazing. Very encouraging, gives me so much hope to keep perusing my dreams to play high level beach volleyball!!
Heater of a story, keep it up
Can’t wait to share this with my daughter! Volleyball needs more people like you! Thanks for sharing!
You are good people, Riley. What a great example for us all!!
Over the years, take by take, clip by clip this channel became one of the best online storytellers in all of sports. Idk whether it is practical during a season or whether that's a retirement plan, but you should think about a full movie length (documentary) piece.
What an incredible story.
I watched you guys come up all the boys out of Hawaii!! So inspired by all!! Let’s go Tri,Trevor and Taylor bring a medal home!! Aloha ❤️
Can totally relate. I was forced into middle blocking at 6'3" and this effectively killed whatever future I had in indoor vball.
Dude is an amazing friend right there.
Im 35 yrs old and never had a long term friend like you had with Tri.
Thanks for being there riley
Amazing video!! thanks McKibbins for sharing.
These videos are so inspiring. Just played in our first tournament thanks to you fine gents! Keep up the good work.
@@themckibbinbrothers honestly not too hot😅 my partner and I have played the sport for less than 6 months, but with the AVP grass league starting up we’re pretty hype to keep on trucking.
Dude i have no idea how you guys do it but every single freaking time you motivate me a lot. Thank you for this amazing contents you brought to us and keep up the good work.
Heartwarming. Your videos continue to evolve beyond just ‘volleyball’. Great story thanks for sharing.
A very inspiring story.
Was forever a fan when I watched you guys play AVP Seattle but now an advocate! I share videos like these and the other inspiring videos to my college players! Thanks so much for these awesome stories and I hope to see more!
You are definitely a good friends..... and person. With Tri, your brother and to babysit me at the Dino. Probably a good Samaritan in that occasion 😂😂. But hey, I picked Tri at minute 1.25. Evi asking "who is he talking about?" and me, "I think is Tri Bourne"..... he still moving in the same way.
Top job, brother pelato, once again top job!!!
The story telling was amazing
Love it another great video! Tri is a baller with an amazing story! Hope to see him at the olympics!
do yall still talk? love this story of friendship
Did not see this one coming. Great story. Thanks for sharing.
Another great story time video, as always! This was really motivating and just makes anyone who watches it want to live life to the fullest.
And I'm always going to give you feedback! I LOVE volleyball and the volleyball channel i enjoy the most is yours, i'm going support it as much as i can!
Your videos are a great tool for a parent teaching their teen kids about perseverance. Instead of a lecture from Dad, I forward them your amazing videos. You could do me a big favor if you could do your next video about 'the birds and the bees'. It would save me from a very uncomfortable lecture. Thanks again for a great video!
Dang man, u were really the key to this man's career
@@themckibbinbrothers yeah, further together
So awesome I absolutely love this! Thanks for sharing the backstories to how you are where you are now! Just an amazing story!
Really inspiring story man.
Fantastic story!
Goosebumps
Awesome videos man! Especially these story ones. Pacing and the way you tell the story is so on point
great stuff man, really sparked the joy into volleyball again and my passion to practice
Wow! what a great story! (as always)

Cool story.... awesome friend
Middle blocker is such a painful thing to exist as a player
Tri you legend! Hopefully get to have you back in NZ sometime soon. Bring Riley too haha

So cool history man!!
Amazing. Almost made me cry!
Love these stories you guys are making-- this was another amazing video! 💜
Just freaking love it dude.
i totally did not cry...😭😭
Bro u a real bro, to more than just your bro!😎 Plenty boys just get selfish when recruiters are watching. Just realized u went back to 2005, were you guys in Austin,Texas in 2004? Maybe we were at the same tournament. And I have a vhs of that UH vs Pepperdine game. Tony Ching Vern Podlewski and Sean Rooney bro ur taking me back
@@themckibbinbrothers Bruh I wanted to hit like Tony Ching and defend like Vern Podlewski. That one game opened my mind to volleyball, and that first JO's tournament I went to I saw first hand how hard it would be for short islanders to be recognized. You guys are bringing it full circle, you've inspired me to play again not even realizing that we may have crossed paths once before. Now getting invited to Haili is a new goal! Shout out to the Pilipa'a team that bunked up next door at the hotel we stayed at for JO's and that was another Hawaii team in the open division that we didn't get to meet but I watched and they were killing it! Islands unite and rep it for Oceania! Biba!
Great story. I thoroughly enjoyed this.
i am digging these videos so much that i cant wait for the next one to come out
