Yeah I learned that in 8th grade when I wanted to play middle blocker for volleyball at 5'8. I thought I was pretty tall for a 8th Grader at the time but I was the shortest middle who tried out because the average middle height for who tried out was 6'0 (did makd the team for middle tho, surprisingly despite the height the difference i was the best blocker on the team). Highschool I try out for middle again this time 5'11 still the shortest middle everyone's 6'2+. It's tough i have to put in a lot more effort because I need to use more energy to get over the net even tho it's just a few inches. Praying I get a crazy growth spurt to keep up with everyone else.

Love these backstories. When we watch the big names play in big tournaments and the shining medals around their neck, we sometimes forget that what we see are the results of years of hard training and forget that the players we look up to are just human like us and they too have started from the bottom. We hardly get to hear about their long journey to climb to the top and all the hardships and obstacles they have overcome. It's not about innate talent or height but really comes down to hard work and determination. Having the right mindset is so important and these stories are very motivating and interesting.

I came back to watch Punahou vs Kamehameha match after graduating and was blown away at his timing to the ball, dynamic arm and perfect reach. Then I saw footage of him playing at Nationals and was shocked...guy crushes the X like few others. Taylor reminds me of a mini GIBA (all world Brazilian outside hitter). That's why I always ENCOURAGE the kids I coach volleyball to. I want them to know that they can achieve greatness if they put in the work & really learn everything about the game. The best thing is to teach them WHY you do certain things on the court & how to create a Statistical Advantage against any opponent. Once kids know how to play that way their CONFIDENCE goes through the roof. Doing that as a coach truly helps to UNLEASH the TRUE POTENTIAL of your athletes. As legendary coach Sue Enquist says, "As coaches our calling is to effect the way our players BELIEVE in THEMSELVES." I'm glad Taylor had tremendous fight in him to ignore the doubters & use their insults as fuel to fan the flames of his success. Michael Jordan did that too. But just imagine what Taylor would have been like if he was ENCOURAGED instead of DOUBTED?

He's describing what I am and feel. Now I see him being able to do it, I believe I can do it.

Great video thank you for this. My 13 year old is just getting into the sport and has alot of raw talent but is constantly doubting himself and thinks him being shorter is a big hindrance. Shared this video with him in hopes he can be inspired by Taylor's story. Keep up the great content !

I don't think people really comprehend how much exponentially harder volleyball gets, the shorter you are.

I’m so glad I found this episode and your channel! This is real life example that you can play at any height. Your coach was wrong and I’m glad you were persistent with your goal. Def a hitter! 😂

Height is only one factor. Speed, jump height and having the skills kneeded to choose the best option at every opportunity is what matters.
That and really wanting to win gets you a long way. ”The Bug” is very fun to watch, easily one of my top five male players.

This could not have come at a better time. With college club tryouts coming up and being a 5'10" outside hitter, this gave me the fire I needed to work even harder! Love the videos!!

dang, I really wish the volleyball scene here in the Philippines is as good as that of the US! My story is the complete opposite hahaha. I'm an outside, but I badly want to play libero! Anyway, great story again, guys! Keep inspiring!

Height and age is just a number in volleyball - indoor and beach - you have players like Taylor Crabb and Gabi (Brazil outside) who knock down your stereotypical outside hitter (volleyball position to say the least). Thanks for your story much love from aus I binge all ur videos TMB
