- Fishing an old favourite hole in the Murray River below Lake Hume for Golden Perch. I found the fish schooled up on a snag and caught a few in quick succession during a short afternoon session.
Rod: 9ft BK Custom
Reel: Shimano Stella 2500
Line: 12lb Braid with 6lb Fluoro/40lb Fluoro

do ya drag up some no wonder the fish take you into snags , also your hooks are not setting right on that weak drag .
Thanks Rozz, I was only running 6lb leader to start with as I always have for yellas and the drag was as tight as it could be. In this big backwater I have to pull them back upstream so they have a bit of an advantage so I've now gone to 12lb leader and can go a bit harder on them.
Why let the fish run into the snags tighten the drag

12lb braid hey I best upgrade I been using 5lb and 6lb braid I just use my trout rod for yellas

why such light gear?
Have always gotten away with it until this session, it's just that I'm fighting them from upstream in this particular hole and it's snag ridden. If you watch my next one you'll see that I upped my leader and my conversion rate was much better.
