Great content man! I've had my eye on your channel since you subbed me awhile ago, and you were at 35k subscribers. You've since passed me up! Thanks for lighting a fire under my ass. ;)
I almost shut down before you started singing, haha, that was awesome! I agree with what you say, but I'm really wondering if that's a good launch strategy - I would rather it would be just good enough that I would actually start using it after the first run, rather then put it back in the box and check back regularly (if I remember..). But I trust they have the money to win the long run.
Haha! Nice :) - I think of it as a way to build a community. Not really market the product. They want to get a good feedback cycle, and also a strong grassroots community that will be an advocate for it when the time has come to sell.
Agree with everything you said. I am very excited for this app , but I also wouldn't mind seeing how it changes. To me there is just "room to change", but it is beautiful.
Hi! I'm new to your channel but I just wanted to tell you how awesome I think your videos are! Such thoughtful and engaging content! Not too mention informative and educational. You're kind of the bees knees. Keep up the awesomeness! :)
Good insights on the state of the industry! I'm excited that UI design is getting so much targeted attention. I've got a couple questions.. - Have you looked at Photoshop's new "Design Space" layout? It seems to be a good middle between Sketch and XD. However, I haven't heard anyone mention or review it! - Are you using a teleprompter? You flow is so smooth! How do you pull that off? Also, I love the handheld mic! Especially if it mean more Travis serenades!
I'm glad you liked the video. I remember being really annoyed by design space. But I work differently now, I wonder how I'd like it these days. I am using a teleprompter! I just got it. Is it obvious?? I'm trying to learn how to use it and not look like I'm reading. Thanks for your comment mate!
+DevTips Yeah.. I'd say that design space is pretty cool.. It's pretty limited still.. I'm not sure it's being developed anymore. And no.. I couldn't tell you were reading. You're quite natural with the teleprompter! I only noticed because I could see its reflection in the picture behind you! XD
I wish there would be more analytical videos like this on the Frontend ecosystem. Great job! P.S. it was really cool to meet you and Carlos at Tonga room the other day! :)
Trav, it was fun sitting in for the Adobe live feed and you did great. Nice analysis here as well. Regarding Sketch, it would be cool if you did a video of the new Craft plugins for Sketch/PS from InVision. If you haven't checked it out, you should. I know it's been a busy week, but hope the Podcast is still coming tomorrow. Cheers!
Hi, Travis! I'm trying XD, and it is fast indeed. But it needs time and iterations to become the main tool. In all the example I've seen only mobile related design. I hope they didn't optimize it just in that direction, I hope they had the whole process in mind from A to Z. Testing.. Also, there's a place where I can find your Adobe presentation recording?
Great video! I think the mike's a bit distracting. You should do a video on sketch with the craft plugin and compare to XD. Great content as usual. Keep it up
Such an interesting video! Thank you for keeping me updated with the news! I agree with pretty much everything you've mentioned and I also am excited for the new software. And speaking of your outro: You're so cool. I wanna be your friend hahah Thanks again mr Travis!
This is 3 years old? I was really bummed to hear about the line height thing. But now that I see how old this vid is, I’m hoping they’ve fixed that? Have they? Is Adobe XD super awesome now? I have 2 big projects coming up and was hoping to make the switch. I’ve only ever used photoshop or illustrator. It’s time to move on.
I used QuarkXpress (the old one) at school years ago. We only used it for print layouts, because there was no website designing going on in the class. The version I used didn't even support transparent images, which was a bummer, but I remember the typography stuff being decent. I wouldn't have wanted to use it for a website though. It would probably make a good PDF though, as it was very focused on making multi-paged documents, like physical magazines or newspapers.
the most exciting thing for me is that it is great tool that is not only visual design tool but also prototyping tool, which is very important as UI designer because most of time clients want to see how the my design looks like with animation. so with XD, i dont have to use multiple tools to show my designs. so i really XD features. but it is still on developing. and i also hope they will launch the windows version soon.
you talked about photoshop, illustrator, sketch and xd but i wonder, where did you put fireworks?? i've been using it for years and so far theres no other software like that with the ease of vector and bitmap use in a simple way, the use of styles, pages, states and the posibility of import any graphic file or open a png on photoshop makes it better than any photo software. thats why people complain when adobe kick it out of the market.
Hi Travis, I really enjoy your videos and learn a lot in the process! Have you tried the Craft plugin from InVision with Sketch yet? If so, I'm curious to hear your opinion about it and how it compares to Adobe Xd.
Hey travis! I love your work and it has helped me a lot the past few years. I was wondering if you knew much about Web Animations API and if it was something you would want to talk about/teach?
At work I've completely moved to sketch. I use PS if I need to edit a raster image. I also use PS to make video thumbnails and podcast episode covers and stuff like that.
I think we should discuss the "Experience Designers" title more. I don't see what the issue is. Yes there are many people involved in the experience but experience designers design the layout, look and navigation. I'm interested to hear more opinions.
I guess that can depend on the size of the team. At google i would say that's the case but in a startup that person does most things right. I like the term interaction designer. I hadn't heard that before.
+DevTips I think it's because Adobe doesn't support it anymore. So I'm guessing nobody talks about it much. But I'm currently still learning Fireworks and it's a great software for Web Design. Which is why I posed the earlier question? I'm also following a UI/UX designer named Mike Locke who uses Fireworks. He actually has a UA-cam channel too and play-tested with Adobe Xd and shared his opinion. Thanks for taking the time to respond and also for providing me with the link for Twitch in an earlier comment.
The end is the best part of the video. Thanks for sharing your opinion, especially the Quark software part. I never loved Quark. Thank God for InDesign.
+Ewa Śniecińska Talk about them separately. They are different. Ewa is right. Talking about them like they are one thing makes people think of them as one thing.
And there is "Experience Design" in other areas like industrial design, furniture design, services design, and a lot others than Graphical/Software/IT context.
Great review! I can't wait till it comes to Windows. PS: The crooked center art piece enraged my compulsive behavior enough to gnaw my pen to a nub. PPS: It was a Wacom pen :(
I have decided that, come pay day I shall become a patreon! The quality and the content of these videos are just outstanding; Maybe a singing video for patreons ;)! In terms of xd I think it would be good to have a new bit of software on the market! and its good that we are consistently getting new software like this because one tool is not perfect and there is always room to improve!
True. Right now, however, it's a free preview. Ive never paid for CC. But the time that came around I always had employers paying for my software. So there is this kind of give and take. If its what pros use, you'll need to know it. having said that, we use Sketch at Google.
+DevTips actually might want to make that 2 naps. I'm ok right now with 6h core + 1 nap, with not much tiredness. Everyman attempt next year I think for me. First tho I'm going to get consistent with 5h core + 2 naps
The name is a bit misleading and good at the same time no compliant though , But i'm so freaking hyped about it , it looks very very fast and functional and i think at the end of the day that is the most important thing. Another thing Trav , are those dead pixels i see? , hmmmmmmmm
i sang with you and it feels great, don't know when was the last time i'we heard this song.. oh and i'm gonna try xd just to see what are you talking about..thanks!
yea. you just click on what you want to edit and you can hold ctrl to click objects behind other objects. i love indesign for website mockups/layouts because it works kind of like html/css does.
I am geting buffering , its only 1080P showing damn,is it only for me or not idk,but i am excited about the XD,its named pretty cool ha!look forward to it :)
Hey Nice Video.. Would you mind posting a video on all new CSS Grid (Display : Grid) or Complex Menu using Flexbox Or CSS Animation (keyframe and all that....)? Thanks.....
I started UI design with Macromedia Fireworks before switching to Illustrator. Fireworks was the earliest attempt, I think, at creating a dedicated UI application but Adobe gave it very very VERY little love. They recently discontinued it and suddenly Xd shows up...
I’m new to your channel. I was really surprised not to hear even a word about Adobe Fireworks. You didn’t even mentioned it, in this context! Have you ever used it (or find it useful)? I understand that Adobe is getting rid of it (fireworks), but I just can’t understand why!? Can u explain me, or share your thoughts?.. What’s wrong with Adobe Fireworks. In my opinion it’s closest software for web designer's daily needs, and instead of developing it, they are killing it and start from scratch with this Comet or XD... What’s going on???
After I made the video I realized I never mention fireworks. This is probably because I never used it. It's always been abandonware, ever since Adobe acquired it. I guess that's why I never got into sublime text also, because it seems abandoned. I have a hesitation to use products that are not being supported.
I think the problem with sketch is, that it is an Mac OS only program. I would love to try it, but it's not worth to buy a Mac just for this reason. Guess I'll stick to Illustrator for now until XD is becoming better
I couldn't agree more on the "UX/UI rent", I deskpalm when I see a self-appointed "UX expert" because as you said: UX is the big picture while UI is a specific part of the process. Now I might sound like a weirdo but InDesign always was in my opinion one of the best software for webdesign, designing anything in Photoshop is a real pain and Illustrator's UX is just off, and these last years Adobe wanted to make ID more "web-ready" without making any significant improvement so it always was a disappointment in the end, I feel like XD (what a weird name) is the missing part of the Adobe workflow, of course it's not perfect yet, designers loves sticking to their tools but I'm sure that in a few years it'll become the goto software in the industry. Now waiting for the Windows release.
I have not enjoyed XD yet. But about all other products i absolutely agree. I start From Photoshop, then go to Illustrator, then to Fireworks, then back to Illustrator. Now i use Sketch, because it's faster. I would like to back to Adobe, because i like many of them services, but most of them slow as turtle - slow open, slow save, without autosave and recover and version control.
It's a good start, I think Omnigraffle is better; but I'm pretty sure Adobe is going to pimp this tool in the next months/years. That's great news about QuarkXpress but we already have InDesign :P "Experience Design" is the best way to describe it or "Flow Design", if you do interfaces (UI/GUI) that's more visual/graphic design right? That ending xD
Try shooting some reference photos for a before/after and then cleaning your censor through the settings. There are other methods, but this is the most harmless and least complicated. Sorry for pointing it out. I've noticed it in your other videos, but decided to let you know after seeing this one. I'm a former professional photographer so my eye is trained to see this stuff.
I couldn't wait to try out XD but after some time with it, I was really disappointed. It seems like all these fancy new prototyping apps are all done for mobile prototyping but what about web? Well, XD gives you a website template, basically just a canvas with a typical website working area. That's it. Scrolling content? Not possible. Even if you could manage it somehow, there wold be no reasonable way to present a web prototype to a client. Yes, it's fast - thanks to the native platform but other than the layer palette, also the color palette is way better in illustrator than in XD. There are so many issues, I really hope they come up with significant improvements soon..
Scrolling will happen on the next release, I was just reading about it. They have monthly updates. It's not perfect now, but that was the deal going in.
XD ironicly feels like a prototype of a prototype tool. It lacks interactive features to create autentic wireframes. In Axure WOF is supported when I make a desktop prototype in html. There's no style option for typography like you have in ID and I can't say I've been able to discover any scripting support like you have in tools such as Axure and/or Sketch. In Axure you have dynamic panels to make interactive stuff like drop down menus, accordian panels, live Google map feeds, video support from YT and Vimeo etc. XD is basically just a static tool with some cool linkage features. I like the art board approach. I hope Adobe is able to further develop XD to make it more relevant, as of now it's not a bird or a fish. No way I'm leaving Axure for this.
Thanks for the feedback. Would you say this is different than normal? Do I not usually present like this? The reason I ask is because I recently got a teleprompter and I'm learning to use it.
Great content man! I've had my eye on your channel since you subbed me awhile ago, and you were at 35k subscribers. You've since passed me up! Thanks for lighting a fire under my ass. ;)

+Reda Izo haha
Agree with everything you said. I am very excited for this app , but I also wouldn't mind seeing how it changes. To me there is just "room to change", but it is beautiful.
Exactly!
+DevTips is there an eta for the windows version?

hahha, That was awesome! Thanks for stopping by to say hello. I don't get that a lot so it's really fun to meet someone who likes the show :D
I'v been under a rock and have yet to hear about this. Thanks for another great video. Also, love the beetle juice reference at the end there!
+FI Drox haha, Thank you!!
Trav, it was fun sitting in for the Adobe live feed and you did great. Nice analysis here as well. Yep. podcast is done! I think craft is cool. I downloaded it. I used it once tho. Thats the thing. Plugins are always... second citizens... you know?
who else thought XD was a smiley?
I totally went there
Hi, Travis! I'm trying XD, and it is fast indeed. But it needs time and iterations to become the main tool. In all the example I've seen only mobile related design. I hope they didn't optimize it just in that direction, I hope they had the whole process in mind from A to Z. Testing..

The microphone looked like you were holding a trophy... and you deserve a trophy for that singing! :P
Hahha, Thank you!!
The song at the end was the perfect encore lol
Great info, thanks!
Yea!
you were great on twitch... learned a lot especially from the design thinking process.
so glad you tuned in!!
Great video! I think the mike's a bit distracting. You should do a video on sketch with the craft plugin and compare to XD. Great content as usual. Keep it up
Thanks Kyle :)
Such an interesting video! Thank you for keeping me updated with the news!
I agree with pretty much everything you've mentioned and I also am excited for the new software.

Very clear! and great review :)
Awesome! thanks!

Great video :) What microphone are you using?
its a Blue Spark Digital
+DevTips Thanks :)
+DevTips When do you use that microphone? I don't think I have seen it around :)

Hi! Where was that led panel.....? Please tell me!
What led panel?? Are you talking about the light behind the camera? It's not an led, just a bulb and a n umbrella.
DevTips At 0:30
+Rodrigo Graça Ohhhhh!! That's in the Adobe lobby. It's just a bunch of light cubes
I feel like I just got a bonus scene from the credits. Great song and the product looked cool too
Glad you liked it man. hahah. I try to make the credits worth sticking around for :)
When i saw the video title ,i started thinking what is adobe XD and at that time i was like XD
Xd is the worst name ever.
OMG. hahah!!!
i think it is named after acronym of lol ie XD
Awesome perpormance at the end xD
Haha, thanks :)
The mic was a little distracting to me. But it's not bad, if it's just a video of your face the whole time. Appreciate you and your videos!
Thanks for the feedback Carl :)
I think I will use it in my workflow despite the lack of features because I like where they are heading with this tool!
I agree :)
I hope this gives Sketch a good kick in the rear to start really making it a seamless product.
I bet it already has. :)
######################## • Suggestion Next Video: Adobe Xd vs. Craft (by InVision)
Wholly moly... I totally forgot about Quark.
CALLED IT!
Hey, how is it going? Nice ending :DDD I am just interested why adobe would create xD if they already have Dreamweaver? Are they different?
Completely different. XD is graphics software. Dreamweaver is a code editor.
Thanks Travis :)
Hey travis! I love your work and it has helped me a lot the past few years. I was wondering if you knew much about Web Animations API and if it was something you would want to talk about/teach?
General question... Do you still use Photoshop in your workflow if not would you recommend a moving to sketch from Photoshop?
At work I've completely moved to sketch. I use PS if I need to edit a raster image. I also use PS to make video thumbnails and podcast episode covers and stuff like that.
If you're already familiar with Adobe products, I would recommend you to try out Illustrator instead of Photoshop.
+Michael Riezler I use Illustrator for other things but I prefer PS for mocking up websites
+Joseph Cooper Sketch is especially good if you want to design UI for mobile apps
i watched this video in SnoopaVision. amaaaaaazing!
+Hannes Lpd lier!
thanks dude!!! i love the last part.. haha great voice
I think we should discuss the "Experience Designers" title more. I don't see what the issue is. Yes there are many people involved in the experience but experience designers design the layout, look and navigation. I'm interested to hear more opinions.
In my perspective, that's all UI. The experience is total.
I guess that can depend on the size of the team. At google i would say that's the case but in a startup that person does most things right. I like the term interaction designer. I hadn't heard that before.
I find it odd that some people use Photoshop for bitmap and illustrator for vector graphics. Why not just use Fireworks? it has both.
Fireworks was never really on my radar. Strange huh?
+DevTips I think it's because Adobe doesn't support it anymore. So I'm guessing nobody talks about it much. But I'm currently still learning Fireworks and it's a great software for Web Design. Which is why I posed the earlier question? I'm also following a UI/UX designer named Mike Locke who uses Fireworks. He actually has a UA-cam channel too and play-tested with Adobe Xd and shared his opinion. Thanks for taking the time to respond and also for providing me with the link for Twitch in an earlier comment.
+AgentCell It looks like Adobe XD will eventually become a good enough replacement for Fireworks
lol will there be any torrents coming out for it soon?
It's a free download. Probably not.
DevTips lol. I got Photoshop CS6 and Illustrator CC for free. Probs shouldn't be saying this lol
The end is the best part of the video. Thanks for sharing your opinion, especially the Quark software part. I never loved Quark. Thank God for InDesign.
Totally!
What's up with all the colourful pixels? It feels like there's glitter on the lens.
i hope its just lint and not a sensor problem...
DevTips Could just be your aura ;)
hahah!
Them vocals, Trav!
Lol!!! Sorry :D
any vods for the adobe stuff
It's funny Travis how we can see that you are scrolling through your script while talking :P
Oh, haha, I'm learning how to use this thing... lol
Adobe XD is awesome, and I loved all your work in adobe, learned a lot :)
why not pencil project?
Hey, when we talk about UX/UI designer title. What to do when you had internship and you REALLY did a little bit of both?
+Ewa Śniecińska "UI and UX designer" The slash is really what suggests they're the same thing.
+Ewa Śniecińska Talk about them separately. They are different. Ewa is right. Talking about them like they are one thing makes people think of them as one thing.
Sorry, I meant Jon is right...
Jon Love
Thanks!
So I tested it out, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but currently it's just a tool for making wireframes?
Hey do u have any talks in Google I/O this year?
Nope, I'm not involved at all
I remember Quark, I haven't heard of it since. Vid was interesting, gracias. (I thought it was a trophy).
haha, a trophy. man. It looks strange huh?
Naw it looks cool, wear it as a necklace like a rapper; so you don't have to be holding it. :)). Naw it's a cool looking mike.
headphone users be warned 12:50
And there is "Experience Design" in other areas like industrial design, furniture design, services design, and a lot others than Graphical/Software/IT context.
Exactly!
Great review! I can't wait till it comes to Windows.
PS: The crooked center art piece enraged my compulsive behavior enough to gnaw my pen to a nub.
PPS: It was a Wacom pen :(
do you think fireworks could be an alternative for sketch? i am looking for a software like this but for windows.
+Adam Nanista This will be available for windows later this year.
Haha, that's awesome Matt! Excited to have you :) I agree, competition is healthy :)
Next time warn us before you sing. You woke up my son.
Love your content
Awww, sorry... I should have turned the volume down on that bit.
ur growing gray hair!!! does it mean ur getting older or getting wiser or both?
Just OSX version right now. :( Any plans for Win or Linux?
Windows near the end of 2016
I agree totally 👍
Hey, thanks!
I think Adobe's membership model may be a bit of a barrier for some - Sketch on the other hand is like $99 bam! You're in there!
True. Right now, however, it's a free preview. Ive never paid for CC. But the time that came around I always had employers paying for my software. So there is this kind of give and take. If its what pros use, you'll need to know it. having said that, we use Sketch at Google.
True. Hey, a 5 hour core plus 1 nap is pretty sweet too!
+DevTips actually might want to make that 2 naps. I'm ok right now with 6h core + 1 nap, with not much tiredness. Everyman attempt next year I think for me. First tho I'm going to get consistent with 5h core + 2 naps
it will be tough to convince me to switch from Xara's graphic design software. But it looks worth a try
I think everything should be tried. There is nothing like forming your own opinion.
The name is a bit misleading and good at the same time no compliant though , But i'm so freaking hyped about it , it looks very very fast and functional and i think at the end of the day that is the most important thing.
Another thing Trav , are those dead pixels i see? , hmmmmmmmm
+Mohanad Salah
Yep looks like 4 bad pixels in there
xD
Check the Affinity Design and Affinity Photo
+André Mácola They are great but only for Mac. Meh!
I thought they were drawing/art apps?
+DevTips Like Photoshop for Web? Hm..
Affinity Designer is great. Personally I prefer the Affinity than Sketch
i sang with you and it feels great, don't know when was the last time i'we heard this song.. oh and i'm gonna try xd just to see what are you talking about..thanks!
thanks for joining in!!! haha.
Sketch vs XD?
+Waqas Ahmed Eventually i got the answer in the end :D Thanks... I also love to try.
hi travis could u please do a video adobe experience manager?
What is that?
Layers like InDesign would be the best. You don't use them often and you can drill down into groups similar to Illustrator.
I don't think I remember that layers panel, which makes me think that it did a good job :)
yea. you just click on what you want to edit and you can hold ctrl to click objects behind other objects. i love indesign for website mockups/layouts because it works kind of like html/css does.
makes sense!
I am geting buffering , its only 1080P showing damn,is it only for me or not idk,but i am excited about the XD,its named pretty cool ha!look forward to it :)
Thanks for your comment Dibakar
+DevTips it's my first comment on your channel , I love watching your videos, but I never comment before. It's help me a lots, thanks
Those dead (red) pixels are disturbing :(
Beyond that, good video! :)
I noticed those after I recorded. I hope they are not dead. I hope its just lint!! The camera was fine last week :(
Hey Nice Video..

Are you checking your e-mail box?
I am overloaded in my inbox. I cant get to everything. Sorry if you feel ignored.
I was just asking, thanks for reply :)
No, I get it. And I feel real bad about it too :(
Nice video :D One day u could talk about apps like Invisión
I love invision. That would be cool.
Quarks biggest problem is they took forever to get a osx version out
I wasn't around back then, but It seems they had a lot of issues with listening to customers.
I think the problem with sketch is, that it is an Mac OS only program. I would love to try it, but it's not worth to buy a Mac just for this reason. Guess I'll stick to Illustrator for now until XD is becoming better
That's a really interesting POV. That is one way Adobe can win big here. The windows market.
Do a video series on polymer!
Thanks for the suggestion!
"Adobe XD" powered by Disney?
Hahaha, Its a cartoon
+s2pid Exactly where I went! I'm a grown man.. but Disney XD is nothing to ignore!
did you just skipped on fireworks?
Now waiting for the Windows release.
yea man. I'm waiting for those monthly updates. I just checked this morning :)
I hope they at least enable users to create styles and and symbols. If it doesn't then I will likely stick with Sketch
I have not enjoyed XD yet. But about all other products i absolutely agree. I start From Photoshop, then go to Illustrator, then to Fireworks, then back to Illustrator. Now i use Sketch, because it's faster. I would like to back to Adobe, because i like many of them services, but most of them slow as turtle - slow open, slow save, without autosave and recover and version control.
yep. XD hopes to change a lot of that
It's a good start, I think Omnigraffle is better; but I'm pretty sure Adobe is going to pimp this tool in the next months/years. That's great news about QuarkXpress but we already have InDesign :P
"Experience Design" is the best way to describe it or "Flow Design", if you do interfaces (UI/GUI) that's more visual/graphic design right?
That ending xD
I agree, it's a good start :)
XD! Wtf where they thinking?
I dont know...
You have quite a few stuck pixels on your camera.
I think that may be lint. I didnt know about it till after I shot. you think they are stuck pixels? That's bad....
+DevTips Did you record this in 1080p? Because watching back in 1080p, they look too fuzzy to be stuck pixles, and I would agree it looks like lint.
Thanks for the help guys :)
i was actually hating InDesign today!
Oh yea?
wtf with this only 1080 !! some fuckers still use Hostel Internet like me
I couldn't wait to try out XD but after some time with it, I was really disappointed.
+DevTips guess what. Started up XD today and.. there's an update. Yay! :)
Hahah, yep :)
Nice mic.
Keep it.
haha, thanks :)
Cool Mic:)
People are bugged about the mic but all I see are eye squints, raising eyebrows, head tilts, overenunciations over & over. 🙄
Thanks for the feedback. Would you say this is different than normal? Do I not usually present like this? The reason I ask is because I recently got a teleprompter and I'm learning to use it.
Early april fool? :D
Nope :(
Banana! :)
i see some hot pixels on video...
Yea, I gotta figure out whats up with that.
Once again...
Mac only......
+Peter Brinck comes to windows
+Marko Bolliger I wish they would release it to Linux, along with their other software
How many people use quark in their workflow? None 👍🏻
