Ellen Degeneres has a reputation for being kind and generous, but a recent Twitter thread makes it seem like she’s anything but! When fellow comedian Kevn T. Porter asked for horror stories about this talk show host, people were only too happy to deliver! Allegedly, she once argued with Russell Brand for daring to consort with her employees behind the scenes. Many tales make it seem like her wife Portia de Rossi is always having to apologize for her, and that Ellen’s interference impacted the filming of Arrested Development. Supposedly she’s not a favorite customer at Meche salon in LA and she and fellow star Rob Lowe are bad tippers. She's also been called out by UA-cam star NikkieTutorials for being 'less than kind to her' onset. There are reports that she plays favorites when it comes to picking out Christmas gifts for her TV crew and staff. She's also not always careful when driving through the parking lot. We all know she and Kathy Griffin don’t exactly see eye to eye when it comes to comedy, but she might have even more enemies than most people realize! Apparently, making eye contact with this star backstage is a huge faux pas and she’s not known for reacting well to simple greetings.

She obviously turned down the drink and everyone knew she was pregnant. Then she had to explain her miscarriage to the world. That is not gossip that’s just fucked up. Mariah is the queen of shade but would never stoop to that level

Aren't celebrities being told about the questions before the show starts? I'm pretty sure Mariah already knew what Ellen was gonna ask her. I didn't recall Mariah being angry about it, if she was being tricked into it, I'm sure she wouldn't come to the show ever again. And Mariah has been to the show more than a couple of times.

The problem is that people, especially Americans, treat celebrities like they are people of importance when they are not. They are entertainers, and nothing more. However, as long as people treat them like they are above everybody else, then some of them will act like that. Just remember though, they are just people, and they are no better than anybody else. Although, Betty White may be an exception (because she's amazing, and I'm biased).

You defeat your whole point at the end there. A lot of celebrities are above others. They have a greater impact and reach then you or I. They have more people who care about there well being, more people who may depend on them, more opportunities for different things. So, yes. They are of importance. It's even more demeaning to denote someone's existence to just being there to entertain you. It's a lot less about what they're famous for and more about how they reach people and affect others

Ellen apparently has a very sensitive nose and if she doesn't adhere to liking someone's new perfume or natural body odour... that's just wrong. It is exactly like the scene in Parasite as rich people tend to look down on the people who work for them, thinking they have some sick form of control over everyone around them.

when i was round my friends house when i was about 9 years old, her parents were watching Ellen and I had never seen her before (i’m british so she’s not as well known) and i remember thinking she was creepy because i thought she didn’t display emotion behind her eyes. and i just felt a very weird unexplainable little kid dislike towards this woman who i thought had a mask like face. i’m usually a very good judge of character too

Ellen used to be a struggling actor, desperately trying to find work, depressed about not finding work and her show got cancelled when she came out of the closet etc. etc. Now that she is successful and rich, she had forgotten what it was like to be treated unkindly. If I lived her old life and then got a second chance and became really successful, man! I'd be so grateful and kind to everyone and somehow pay it forward. It really is too bad that some people think that just because they have a HUGE bank account, it's okay for them to treat people this way. It's pretty pathetic. Her money obviously doesn't make her happy. I feel sorry for her.

To those who responded that it’s not her money. Of course I know that I’m not an idiot - she literally says from sponsors. If you want me to be technical, then here’s my explanation. Her sponsors donate hundreds of thousands of dollars but they need to attach a face, a trustworthy, kind, empathetic, familiar household name. So if she cannot embody some of these qualities and more, then it’s very sad.

This is not suprising at all. Her mean streak is reflected on her love of pranks on her guests, as we were taught by our Parents, it is not nice to laugh at someone else's expense.
Honestly not surprised, whenever she talks about emotional stories or people struggling she seems like she doesn’t actually gaf. She’s glazed over just waiting for the story to be done. You can see how much she doesn’t actually care during the shows if you look closely at her body language and facial expressions

The story about the new mom being rehired and then immediately terminated makes a lot of sense.. It’s classic job retaliation at its finest, and it happens in every job market.
If I were famous and I got onto the Ellen show, I would put my opinions aside about how she treats other celebrities on the show, stand up mid-set, and say something in full respect of her but in honor of the people who work behind the scenes who suffer to make this show possible, are never credited, and to say that every second of hatred, dismissals and disrespect will never keep them down, even if it is from her. Even in darkness days, their fire burns.

I too found that comment ironic. I liked Ellen right up until the Academy Awards several years ago when she made a very mean joke about Liza Minnelli's looks. You could tell Liza was upset. I thought it was incredibly mean and in poor taste and you know she has to approve all the jokes that she does on any kind of an award show. From that moment on I disliked her.

Yeah Ellen is a lot, but the problem is Shallon has huuuge problems with herself. I watched few of her videos and I can't get why people don't see Shallon has bigger problems than people she talks about. Honestly the reason she spots a lot of stuff is, because she has big problems herself and that makes person highly observant of others to know how to defend yourself. She often makes stories bigger for views obviously, but some stuff I noticed with her were really disturbing. It wouldn't be as big if she didn't have audience that seems blind to it and sees her as mentor. If she was an actress or talk show host to them it wouln't be as dangerous. However they see her as teacher and people who have low self-esteem (she tries to hide it by her stories) shouln't be seen as mentors just like narcisissts (I know she claims to be one, but thats not entirely the case with Shallon), because their view of things is distorted and driven by their own insecurities. A lot of people like this have the need to prove their views are real (hence her videos) and need audience.
I used to work with an Advocate who also had horrible rules... we were not allowed to charge our mobile phones, drink tea inside the office, have lunch while she is in the office etc. Also we did not have any chairs to sit and were made to sit on a tiny narrow couch for 9/10 hours
I've noticed that she is only generous with things that her show pays for or sponsors pay for but even during this time she is not willing to share her fortune with people who need it the most. Plus she loves to make smiley jabs at people during her show
I always suspected this. When celebrities become successful, they start becoming demanding and mean.
Wrong, when most celebrities become famous to some degree, they often face tough times. Neither you or me know what it's like being a celebrity and being in their world, especially if they are mega famous. Although, that is somewhat true what you said, they may take fewer things for granted than we do but remember they are living a different life. Famous people like Ellen can't just go to the supermarket without having to deal paparazzi on the streets. Celebrities deal with a lot of rumours and that they get pissed off. Celebrities are allowed to be like us, yet there are grumpy people in our world living an ordinary life. celebrities are allowed to be grumpy too, we are only human after all.

What does refusing to tip customer service have to do with this so called 'hard life' she's having? And why does she treat her guests on the show like they don't matter? Even Kelly Clarkson makes her guests feel welcome. AS big as Oprah is she always made sure of this too. What's a little time to say thank you to the people that are there? And it would be different if this account was from one or two people. But these are several people including people like Nikki Tutorials who has no reason to say anything bad about Ellen other than her experiences. Again, I'm not one to always believe everything I hear, but when its that many people its hard to disregard their concerns. I'm not saying its easy being a celebrity, but there are bigger celebrities than Ellen who are treating their fans with a lot more respect.

Remember when she Intentionally set up a gifting table to her audience with the sole purpose of catching someone taking more than 1 just so she could air it in front of everyone on the show so she could humiliate them. That made me realize who she really was.

I was in the audience the Ellen show a while back and I really saw what everyone is saying. She came out and said nothing, no greeting or even eye contact with anyone. The show started and she was a totally different person - smiling and dancing with us, cut to commercial she went right back to acting like we weren’t there. Right when the show was ending (we were there for maybe 90 minutes) we were told not to engage her or call out to her and she just walked out without even a wave. I was a HUGE fan and flew across the country to be in her audience and was so disappointed- the real thing is definitely not the same as what I had seen on tv. Guess that’s normal but it was such a bummer.

I am a friendly smiley person. And oftentimes people whom I know as well as don’t know will come up to me to talk, ask for advice, or get help. Some people take my disposition and want to take advantage of my kindness. Other people see my kindness as my way of flirting with them. But I am definitely not a pushover and my kindness isn’t special treatment that I give to people I am sexually interested in. So sometimes I feel like I shouldn’t be such a cheerful person. Because it gives people false perception of me. Maybe this is what Ellen has experienced...... And people just assume she is this cheerful person from the screen who gives away free things.

I never knew her before, but the minute she walked in her show, i knew something's off. i knew she was faking her smile, faking her personality, etc. Hate is a strong word, but that's what i felt from that moment on. I don't even know why my mom liked her so much. Then i watched this, and I was right all along. She is mean.
