Hello. Thank you for your help on this video. I have a question for you. I have been trying to research this clip myself. So you are definitely correct that is David Bromberg playing with him. I know Rory and David both played Montreux 75 one week apart. But I can't seem to find any info on them jamming at this show together. If this is from Montreux do you know if they played the weekend that David was booked or the weekend Rory was booked. Also do you have any clue who the band is?? Is that David Bromberg Band?? It's definitely not Rory's band. Thanks for your Help.
@@kbarchives8826 Hi - Rory played at Montreux one week before he did his electric set with his band and which was filmed and released. He turned up a week before and did a solo acoustic set on the Friday night and which also featured acoustic jams with jazz guys like Larry Coryell and others. There is an official review of this show on line by Chris Welch of Melody Maker. It mentions that the next night on the Saturday pm among the bands playing were to be David Bromberg Band. It is silent on the fact that Rory jammed with DB. The reviewer was poss not at the Bromberg show. However, there is a set list on line of the Bromberg Band's set that night and the electric number ( Won't be your fool) is the one RG jammed on. I can send you the above links if needed. All of this just sourced today and would not have happened if a very good 'top priority' source had not identified David Bromberg!! Great video by the way. There may be some that turn up of Rory and other musicians jamming the night before?
David’s got a great backstory. He learned finger style from the Rev. Gary Davis in the 60s and toured with Jerry Jeff Walker; his version of Mr Bojangles is legendary. He’s back touring and recording with an absolute crack band now (he just shared a bill with Hot Tuna a couple days ago) but in the late 70s he got burnt out from incessant touring and literally put his guitar down for 20 years. During his extended hiatus from performing he became an expert in American fiddle construction, amassing a definitive collection over the years. He was in talks with the Smithsonian to donate it to them but they decided they couldn’t afford to maintain the complete collection and David wasn’t willing to break it up.
This is a must watch. Rory Gallagher and David Bromberg; two brothers from different mothers! This is how musical talents, genetics, vibes, whatever... meld. This is the chemistry of blues. Thanks for posting!😄
