Metro-North Railroad Evening Rush Hour on New Haven Line @ Pelham w/ Mode Changes (1/19/17)

  • Shot between 3:10 pm and 5:30 pm. Pelham is a great spot during the rush period, where you can get a multitude of MU equipment passing through the power supply source change just west of the station. Through the course of about 2 hours, we see almost all of Metro-North's mainline passenger equipment, including the M8s, M2s, and P32AC-DM powered Shoreliner trains (obviously no M3As since those don't run on the New Haven Line). Enjoy the many meets and the pantograph action =)

    Nicely shot - I love the tele-compressed views of the trains, multiple pantographs, and infrastructure. Neat how they do this on the fly!

      The Growl I’ve never actually risen on metro north but this train has a really cool theme although I am excited for the m9s on the lirr because I’m visiting Long Island this winter and I don’t know when the m9s will be ready for passenger use but I hope the will be ready in December because maybe I will get a chance to ride one

    Nice video of the 750v dc third rail and 12.5kv 60hz AC overhead lines switching done by the Metro North M8 and M2 train cars if you are able to go to the United Kingdom this third rail to overhead lines operation is found on thameslink by Class 387,319 & 700 EMU or West London Line by Class 377 EMU since those British Railways EMU have similar capability as the M2 & M8

    Eurostar trains are tri-voltage. From the wiki:
    Class 373 sets were built as tri-voltage, able to operate on 25 kV 50 Hz AC (LGVs, Eurotunnel, High Speed 1, UK overhead electrified lines) and 3 kV DC (Belgian classic lines) using pantographs, and 750 V DC (UK third rail network) using third-rail pickup shoes.

    I'm not a big fan of running the m8s because of the constant cab signal flips and the banging around when braking, however I do like the way they run under the wire. Nice and fast. They are so much quieter than an m7 which sounds like a cat being strangled

      Well this is because this part of the New Haven line is this pantographs and overhead wires where we switch over from third rail unlike the Harlem and Hudson lines which are completely third rail plus this is the Northeast corridor. We still use diesel engines as well as they are frequented on this line even up till now.

  • @lohphat
    @lohphat Рік тому

    I can see that the trains are clear of the 3rd rail (and apparently coasting) before the raise/lower the pantograph. Is that a requirement or can both be engaged and the transfer switch can handle both power systems and choose itself which to use?
    At 9:41 you can see a spark on the rail -- not the powered 3rd rail as you normally see -- as the train crosses into the 750V DC block from the 12.5kV AC block.
