Shot between 4:10 PM and 5:10 PM to the backdrop of a cloudy sunset and the NYC Subway IRT Flushing Line (7 trains) in the background on the elevated structure. Considering 41 minutes out of that hour is recorded, that should tell you how busy the rush hours are on the LIRR mainline. Over the course of the hour, we see just about everything: M3s, M7s, & DM30AC / DE30AC + C3 Bilevels, 4-way train meets, etc. There's even a friendly engineer who gives me a grade crossing sequence as he departs the station. Enjoy =)

My daughter is a Senior Conductor on the LIRR. I remember the anguish she went through the first year with the studying and exams she went through. I remember the day she was presented with her LIRR conductors hat and name badge and how proud she was. Now she has seniority and usually a good choice of assignments and makes a very good wage and benefits. It wasn’t until I saw this video that I could appreciate what she has for from the beginning. I enjoyed your video. Thanks.
Robert Collis Congratulations 2 her & The LIRR Exams are very strict !!! I’m glad she hung in there & has some seniority & again Congratulations 2 her 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 !!!!
What school did she attended to sir?
What's mind boggling is the sheer logistics that go into keeping the MTA running on a daily basis. Remarkable.
That's IF they don't have any service suspensions, which occur almost every day.
Thank you! It's a kind of relax video. There is no railroad in my town in Russia, but when I go to a nearest city I walk to train station and watch a trains goes by.
I'm glad you enjoyed =)
As a railroader myself, I appreciate this video & when I’m out that way I make it a habit to ride the LIRR & NJ Transit 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 !!!!
Being born and raised in the Chicago/Northwest Indiana Area, I've always had a great interest in the Commuter Railroads in and around New York City! Great Video indeed! :)
Saxiesax 2 Especially Metra!
wow u could really hear that 7 train at 2:37
Best video of LIRR !! Best Regards from Italy
An amazing video of the LIRR ... thanks so much for posting and sharing with your viewers.
The video is very good. In my city São Paulo Brazil, the suburban train system is cleared, the rush hour is practically impossible to see empty trains ..
Interesting footage of the LIRR!
Best regards from Finland, Tuukka
Excellent and smooth job in recording! Question: Are the Metropolitans still running?
ACLTony Yup. But not as often. I see it like 4 times a week
Great videos, thanks.
I noticed another railman on the platform this is definitely the place to be during rush hour
Spent part of the afternoon here couple of days ago, and even right before the rush, the traffic levels are quite impressive, at around 1530, the deadhead runs into PS start up, and it gets really interesting.,.. do note the Pennsy-style stub signals, and the MN M2 , that hasn't been stripped of all its blue striping yet!
I'll be making a trip to New Hyde Park soon to run some errands and will do some railfanning while I'm at it.
Always love your videos man, heading in for a weekend with my Uncle tomorrow, planning to hit the NEC and also check out the 2nd Ave subway for my first time. Should be a fun weekend. Keep posting videos!
Lots of (7) train action in the background. I like it.
Training to become a assistant conductor with the lirr, cant wait to finally be hired was supposed to start last year 🤦🏻♂️
My girl used 2 live by this line.never took these trains but I took the 7 train above it plenty of times 2 see her.
Very cool action at my local station!
I luv the Long Island Railroad .
I hate lirr I love nj transit
Long Metro44 L. I like metro north better because it has different trains the lirr just has one car type
2:33 never mind my last comment
+Robert Cresthull NJTransit is slow
Umm, have you been on the LIRR? It sucks.
Amazing footage
I saw a metro north train (m7) with his headlights on on the back of the train while railfanning
Great video!
I'm from DC. What are those yellow elevated platform pieces for (the one he was standing on at 6:00)?
Those are bridge plates. They are for when the track closest to the platform is closed. They allow trains to access the station from the express tracks.
@@FanRailer do they get placed on the brackets seen at 3:27 ? How do they mount them?
14:49 did anybody notice that train up there
That's the 7 line
The nyc 7 subway line stops at Woodside as well as the lirr
So how do you know that a train is coming around the turn like 16:18? Is it a lucky shot or do you just know it's coming?
You can hear the rails singing.
Also, this is where the R46 went testing and you can see the 61st street, woodside avenue on the flushing line
Dont forget the 44.
Pretty good videos
3:46 I saw a 7 train
Why is it that the LIRR uses its horns so much less that Metro North, NJT, and Amtrak?
This is Woodside; there may be different regulations governing horn usage within the city terminal zone, but once you get out onto Long Island, the horns are used regularly.
To add to this, there are almost no grade crossings within NYC, and likely fewer grade crossings in general. It also helps that there is little traffic from other railroads.
Is this on your phone?
0:05 sounds like a Windows starting up lol
traction motors
It’s a great, underrated system. However the continued use of paper ticket clippers is a little absurd …
Just a question before I try to railfan the LIRR on my main channel, To just go to the station do you need to buy a ticket? Or do you only need to buy a ticket to ride the train? I think you only need to buy the ticket if you ride, but I just want to make sure :O
You don't need a ticket per se to be on the platform, but it's always better to be a "passenger" when you get hassled for filming. At least then you have an excuse to be there besides filming.
what kind of camera do u have
You got lucky bout an hour later they shut down Penn Station bound service due to broken rail
no i was on the trains they were not going west of Jamaica to Penn. That was a train accident this was a broken rail. www.mta.info/press-release/lirr/lirr-service-advisory-pm-rush-hour-wednesday-january-11-2017
is it me or do most lirr railfanners go to woodside?
Not really, most go to either Mineola, New Hyde Park (Before the Third Track Project), Bethpage, Jamaica, Hunterspoint Ave if you want Amtrak or NJT, or Penn Station
I've been on the LIRR many times. Also, why did the trains skip the stop.
Justin Feng Rush hours
Buddy, IRT hasn't been spoken in NYC for a better part of 50 years, it's called the MTA
lmao maybe not by you, but with the TA, most definitely.
They've always called it IRT or IND depending on what subway line you're talking about.
Why are trains running on diesel when there's a 3rd rail available? I understand there are outer stations not powered, but once they have power available, why not use it?
Because further east from Manhattan, past Huntington or Hicksville the diesels will run on their tracks with no third rails there, and they will either terminate to Penn Station or Jamaica. The 3rd rails only there in the video because of the M7s, M3s or M9s.
That the 7 train above?
The 7 stops here, which you'll be able to hear quite a bit.
That’s Pennsylvania station
Someone please help. I'm not a railroader but curious. At about 2:57 I saw a yellow over flashing red. What's that aspect indicate?
That's a red over flashing red. The top red aspect is faded somewhat. Stop and Proceed.
WHAT IS THAT NOISE THEY MAKE
AND WHY DO THEY MAKE IT
Caps lock is unnecessary....

Fan Railer SORRY
what camera did you use to record its A+
Panasonic HC-V770
Fan Railer thanks!
I also saw a subway train
are you going to get video of Metro North trains?
Not for a while.
Ok
I meant railfan
Do DM/DE30's still head into NY Penn? I havent seen one in there.
DEs never head into Penn. The winter timetable has the two DM Port Jeff trains inbound in the morning and two outbound in the evening.
Fan Railer About what time in the morning? Because I have been to Penn Station at about like 10:30/11:30
lol go look up the port jefferson branch schedule and find the direct trains. 10:30 is WAY past the rush hour so you've missed the last inbound train by an hour and a half already.
can you do more Pennsauken transit center videos
I ment ac line .
record copigue train station
what is the train in the back
ismaila Diallo thats line 7 with the nyc subway
Express Track speed = ?
through here? All tracks 60 mph in the station. There's a 45 mph curve directly west of the station though, so most trains are either accelerating out of it, or braking for it depending on direction of travel.
