I vividly remember the webtoons, the games, and even the movie.. but I somehow never owned nor even saw (to my recollection) an actual My Scene doll in stores or at any of my friends’
I live in Europe and actually Myscene was way more popular than Bratz in my country. Mostly because Mattel is better at releasing toys in Europe, most of the Bratz lines weren''t even released in my country which is a shame.
i really love everythingh about my scene doll's; the style, the music, the character, the concept, the new york vibe, i really wish we had more. Like a real tv show and developpement for the character. Their characterization in the animation were top tiers : they weren't the popular girl yet super cool, they were both feminin and sporty. their school life wasn't revelent outside of special event or real strugle like failling math, The focus was on their daily life, friendship, fun activities, passion and dream. Their set play felt accessible since it was their daily life. Shopping, coffe, metro. if they ever had a reall show i'd love to see their relation ship and bond in depth. the movies are fine but not enough and they always made madisson the issue going trough a celebrity phase and all.( i wish we saw her going trough the music producer carrer, showing love for music outside of being a singer.) i don't know they felt mature and grown up yet accessible. If the line was more diverse and maybe with face design looking less like bratz it could be a big renaisssance. we lack realatable doll line made for teens. Monster high was the closet to it even trough they are monster. rainbow high is really out of any things relatable and bratz always feel like college/adult life.
I really liked the world building too. You could really tell that the design team/Mattel, Peterson Milla, and all of the other creatives involved put a lot of thought into the style/feel of the brand. In many ways, My Scene walked so that Monster High could run and thrive.
@@HaveYouHeardDolls "My Scene walked so Monster High could run and thrive" Thank you for noticing this and pointing it out. It's for this reason that My Scene dolls were hands down the best and most underrated dolls of the 2000s due to their lasting effect.
They weren't unpopular, I remember when they came out in 2002, I was turning 14 so I couldn't really enjoy them but my younger sister was still around 11 and we used to play Barbies in the 90s and early 2000s although I definitely had to leave her alone when MyScene came out, even herself !!!! Just like the video mentioned, kids in the 2000s were getting older younger, my sister wasn't really playing her Madison MyScene doll at all....... We both checked her fashion but none of us was playing with her!!!!! So obviously no more MyScene dolls were bought or Barbies at all, although we both DID RECOGNISE the quality of MyScene was over the top, we were amazed at Madison's clothes and the quality of her long curly hair !!!!!!!! And we agreed kids were lucky to play with such new franchise, all I knew was MyScene was the thing in the whole decade and I could tell why
That was there main appeal for me. I relate to no being the popular girl but I was still feminine. I also liked there chill vibe. They basically were an older mature version of Bratz. I preferred the Bratz style though.
I didn't know that any Mattel doll line had hair tools specific for textured hair dolls. It's nice to know that Madison had a hair pick/mini afro comb to accommodate her textured hair.
God I wish I was brave enough, as a boy, to ask my parents for dolls in the early 2000's I absolutley love the MyScene dolls, so far I only have 5, the 'Spring Break' girls and 'Hanging Out' Ellis.
Oh i just know I’m gonna LOVE the rest of this series! It always seems like you out-do yourself whenever a new video comes out! I love My Scene so much, the dolls are so stunning and their accompanying website lives rent free in my mind. Can NOT wait for the next episode! Keep up the good work! 👏
Thank you much!! The evolution of My Scene has been so much fun to research and relive! I still remember getting excited when a new webisode or line would show up on the My Scene site. Mattel really knows how to drum up excitement for a doll brand (for the most part)!
I remember the commercials when I was a kid. I never had any dolls growing up, or was interested. Anyway, Now I’m a proud owner of a 2002 MyScene Spring Break Barbie in box thanks to this video series lol It’s stunning. I’m going to get more.
Loving the new voice! This was very informative and fun - I've never seen the Hangin Out line commercial in English - I was sure it was considered lost media. I'm sooo excited for the next episode. I wonder how you're gonna tackle the slow decline of this franchise over the years.
As always, this was fascinating and extremely informative. Thanks so very much for the accurate and detailed explanation for this unique line of fashion dolls. As usual, your posts are always the very best!
Finally my favorite doll channel does a series of my favorite doll line thank you so much 😍 I though I knew everything but there’s always something missing specially on early internet days thanks for your research
I was too old for this era of dolls, but my aunt had all the MyScene goes Hollywood dolls and I thought they were SOOO pretty! I was also obsessed with the MyScene Goes Hollywood movie and their online games. I was also a Bratz lover and then eventually Monster High when Bratz went away 😢
Holy cow! I had no idea these were Barbie spin-off! I loved MyScene dolls and Nolee was my favorite. I remember having and playing with My Bling Bling Noelee. I still have some if the accessories that came with her!
ah, a good part of my childhood. I never owned a myscene doll, but my friend did have 3 of them and since we always played together, I got to have them in my hands :D and we weren't excluding at all, playing both Bratz and Myscene dolls in same storylines hah! can't wait for a part 2 c: I'd also love a coverage perhaps later about Novi Stars, they completely avoided my doll years but now they fascinate me so much (and so hard to find even secondhand because people just don't know what they are called!)

Very interesting how Mattel killed off Generation Girl because it failed to do what they designed the line for... It's like they decided GG was too conservative in its teenage coolness, but then they proceed to design My Scene that were also pretty lacking when it came to that? My Scene until today remains my absolutely favorite doll line, but one thing I always noticed about them was that compared to Bratz, they certainly lacked the edginess that was MGA's driving force during the first years of Bratz. I wonder if that's the reason MS never really took off (although that's up for debate, since I know that in my country My Scene were always more popular than Bratz) Great video, very much worth the wait! ❤def gonna watch it once more once the series is completed. Love your editing & the new voice. The commercials unlocked so many memories I didn't know were still there. Especially the Chillin out line, I remember my 8 year old self was obsessed with Chelsea. Unfortunately, I had to wait 19 years in order to finally own her 😆
Period My Scenes are THE BEST! I had the whole collection, I still have some of them as collectables…💗💗💗 I also had the car that came with a radio that you could take out! 🚙✨
I love that I discovered this channel. What about a video about Living Dead Dolls?I would love to hear about those. Oh and Glamor Gals by kenner &/or Dazzle Dolls by Mattel.......they were mini dolls in the early 80's and seems like I read that Glamor Gals came out first and of course Mattel wasn't haven't any of that. Lord forbid that another toy company tries to produce another doll line...I bet Mattel does that a lot
Then they wanted to sue MGA on behalf of the My Scene even though they still look similar to the Bratz dolls. Next..!! Oh and by the way, the granny fashion was the problem with Barbie, NOT her look. People hate the Soda Pop Barbie's but they were hot and smelled like candies. The thing about the Soda Pop Barbie's is they were actually popping, they didn't look outdated. This is what Mattel failed to understand and why they'll never surpass MGA. Mattel tried Moxxie girls as well and it failed. Whomp whomp.
great video! I had no idea that my scene had such cool playsets. and thanks for explaining that each of the characters names are based off of NYC locations! kind of funny that there's a hudson and a river 😅
Used to cry for one of these dolls, instead my parents bought me one of those lucky packets with a mystery toy and some sweets inside to make me feel better…still wanted the my scene doll though 😂❤
I vividly remember a report on the news the day after Thanksgiving 2002 about the controversy surrounding the 'sexiness' of the Bratz dolls, the lingerie Silkstone dolls, and the launch of the My Scene line. That is where I found about them as I decorated my family's Christmas tree. I got three My Scene dolls that Christmas.
This it’s amazing, like our very own the toys that made us. I hope one day you could do some documentary about the history of Asian Barbie, I feel there’s so little information about it. Thanks for the great work as usual

I was always curious about rivalry between Barbie and Bratz cause I was born in Ukraine and when I was 5 we moved to Czech Republic and we didn’t play with Bratz. Ukraine was dominated by Barbie, I can’t even remember if I ever saw Bratz commercial on TV. And in Czechia it was like, yeah we now who are Bratz but My Scene was the real deal, omg I still remember how we begged my mum that my sisters needs these dolls (even though she was never interested in dolls, it was our secret pact so I can play with dolls without getting a side eye) I’m still waiting for collector edition of MyScene in price range and quality of BMR1959, those dolls were incredible for the price.
I was a Tween at the time! Played the Computer Game, Watched the Webisodes, saw the movie but didn't buy the dolls, I don't know why! I bought Bratz dolls around this time. Anyways, getting back into dolls and fully regret never getting any My Scene dolls.
I still have my my scene bag and visit their rebooted website to play the classic games like the nail salon makeover and day/night fashion show. Though I never owned a doll nor saw the show as a kid, same with brats (I only had a blanket and a miniature pillow toy of jasmine looking like an Indian goddess from Burger King), they still hold a little place in my heart when it comes to nostalgia
9:26 They do have way bigger hands than a regular Ken. Mattel at least adjusted for the big heads there. Wish they made the hands longer/bigger for the girls too.
The proportion change when taking off the My Scene doll's shoes always cracked me up as a kid. I guess they were keen on making them compatible with mainline Barbie, while they didn't really care much about the guys (as usual).
Love this channel and I’m so glad that I found it! Is there any chance you might do a video covering the Barbie Fashion Avenue line? Or in the same video the Barbie fashion fever line? Both of those collections had such good designs and were so stylish for the time. I’d love to know more about the designers who created them and how the line tied in with the slim box dolls available at the time. It was amazing marketing! Thanks!
i remember being in target and shopping with my grandma i put a myscene doll in the basket and ever since then I’ve been in love with this line! my favorite is maddison cuz she’s black
I remember getting a little CD with 4 or 5 songs on it with my My Scene doll but I don’t remember which one I had. I probably still have the cd somewhere haha
Omg I had no clue! I was giving Bratz all the credit when all along it was MyScene Barbie!! I was fanatic over the launch and the beginning phases of this project but then I think I became older and by the time I came back to Barbie it was for my little daughter and by the time she was ready for teen Barbie’s, bratz seemed to have taken over. I don’t even remember hearing much about myscene when Bratz was all in the rage at one one point. So maybe I got them confused. I forgot they were so neck snd neck! I completely forgot about my scene all together and I’m sitting here plumb dumb for a fool that I didn’t abandon Barbie after all…I had just gotten her foot cat phase confused for Bratz. Oh how I loved MYSCENE!😍
I didn’t grow up in the 2000s to live through the infamous Mattel vs MGA Entertainment saga and legal battles and I didn’t own or play with any MyScene dolls nor did I watch their webisodes. Now that I’m seventeen, I low key find MyScene’s theme song catchy 🎵❤️

i remember being in target and shopping with my grandma i put a myscene doll in the basket and ever since then I’ve been in love with this line! my favorite is maddison cuz she’s black
Mi scene dolls are my favorite dolls from all lines. 😊✌️💃
I remember getting a little CD with 4 or 5 songs on it with my My Scene doll but I don’t remember which one I had. I probably still have the cd somewhere haha
Delancey was always my favorite of the girls! I think it was because she had the hair streaks and skater vibe… She seemed so cool.
"My secret crush on Hudson??" 😂
Do part 2
Don't worry, there'll be more parts!
Cool with the date they came out I was born in 2003 in New York City
I didn’t grow up in the 2000s to live through the infamous Mattel vs MGA Entertainment saga and legal battles and I didn’t own or play with any MyScene dolls nor did I watch their webisodes. Now that I’m seventeen, I low key find MyScene’s theme song catchy 🎵❤️
