Even with Mattel’s hip-hop consultant Dom Brown for the “Flavas” doll line, which comes to the question of how much power does a consultant have? I personally think the aesthetic of these dolls is appealing, I don’t support cultural segregation/gatekeeping, I’m not surprise by the backlash cause rap music lyrics perpetuate stereotypes, anything made by committee is obvious, when you pander the boys or girls you need to pander their mothers and fathers.

I’m so glad you did a video on this line. It was one of my favorites. I always wanted to collect these dolls and play with them. I read the group chats on the generation girl website whenever I could get a chance to go to the library and access the Internet there.we didn’t have it in our home yet. And as a boy, I couldn’t actually get my parents to let me have the doll. Still, I was obsessed with them and read their books in the library. I was so sad when it continued. And I was really sad when Chelsea was phased out because she was my favorite.

I have a doll fact! There was a South Korean equivalent of the second generation Licca-chan doll that was made in 1981 called Lala, and she was made by Dae-il Toys (now known as Mimi World). The doll also had a red magnetic stand with white roses, similar to the Pretty Lisa doll. In 1982, the fashion doll Mimi was introduced, and it was a South Korean equivalent to the Jenny doll (previously known as Takara Barbie) and the Lala doll was later discontinued.

I would love it if you make a video about the history of Middle Eastern or Muslim dolls, specifically Fulla, Razzane and Simba's Jamila. I was too old for this era of dolls, but my aunt had all the MyScene goes Hollywood dolls and I thought they were SOOO pretty! I was also obsessed with the MyScene Goes Hollywood movie and their online games. I was also a Bratz lover and then eventually Monster High when Bratz went away 😢
