That so much Larry. The obvious thing to stop folks from RVing FT is health. But the second biggest for us may be money. I need a little cheer this week. (Actually I need a lot of cheer to keep this up.) I just had to have a new Oasis unit installed for $12,500, along with $6300 of misc. work for an eye-popping $18,800 total. I was NEVER going to publish another cost video because they are so time consuming. I feel I have to now. Our "repairs & maintenance" costs PER MONTH are at around $1000/month now! (And I view the Dutch Star as solid by comparison!)
Just found your channel ❤ We ended up on this same journey 3 years ago by accident, in the winter snow!!!!! traveling from capital reef to bryce. Didn't even know this scary part of the drive existed. Needless to see I was scared to death because I was driving our new 32 ft rv with toad behind. Had to take a nap by the time we got to bryce lol. to let me nerves settle lol. Now I got a few years drive time with the rv we are going back in January. Actually brings joyful tears to my eyes seeing it again. Thanks for all the hard work you put in to bring us along on your journey 😊
Incredible job capturing the awesomeness and drama of the drive. Visual beauty, background music choices and your narration kept me glued to the screen. I really look forward to your Sunday videos. Thanks for all the hard work you all put in to bring these weekly episodes to us. ...and of course happy Sue was able to reboot!!
Thank you so much 😀 for the kind comment. I need a little cheer this week. (Actually I need a lot of cheer.) I just had to have a new Oasis unit installed for $12,500, along with $6300 of misc. work for an eye-popping $18,800 total.
Very well stated, I fully agree. We just did scenic 12 and it brought back the wonderful memories. I hope everyone gets to view it. BUT…. you are right, very nerve racking for passenger and the driver. Cliffs straight down on either side in some places barely wide enough for vehicles to pass…
In Sept 2003 I did the entire Utah 12 length north to south starting out from Hanksville Utah. We were on a motorcycle tour and that route was the best ride ever; and I've toured most of the USA on 2 wheels. I don't recall any guardrails on Rt 12 back then, which made it even more interesting and attention getting, especially hogback. We had dinner with a BLM regional manner after that ride and he told us that there are cars and trucks down in those valleys near hogback and they have been there for decades. They don't even try to get them out when they go over the edge. Glad we had that conversation after the ride. Rt 12 isn't for the faint of heart. (but was good practice for the roads in the Alps that I got to drive a few years back. My wife actually became ill while climbing and decending those road in a smaller car, the size of a Kia Soul). Utah 12 is on the list for another visit in 2023, but I think I'll leave the Toyhauler RV in the park and take either the Ram truck or the CanAm 3 wheeler. Great video. it brought back superb memories.
I almost bought a beautiful 1999 chevrolet dually to pull my fifth wheel. Thankfully I someone got it before me. I bought a 2004 chevrolet that has a 496ci engine and an Allison transmission. The braking power of the transmission is awesome. I'm confident on any downhill situation. Thanks for the ride OJIM
Good choice J! The exhaust brakes, tow haul, Jake brakes, supplemental braking systems on your toad, hydraulic or electric brakes on your pull behind, tires, truck or MH vehicle brakes,.......etc. are all test to the ULTIMATE MAX on this ride.
I just did this drive in the same direction in mid October; in a Chevy Traverse! It was a “semi-white knuckler”. Hard to imagine doing it in your 65ft length and higher sitting position. And yes, the passenger can really freak out; but like Sue, my wife keep encouraging me and telling me how beautiful and steep the scenery was!
Feeling the push into the seatbelt going down hill due to the (2) Stage Jake Brake on the 8.9L Cummins was like having a pacifier in my mouth the entire time while on the road. I tip my hat to all the engine brake and gassers on this Highway. I personally would go a different route. One of the folks on our caravan blewup their Ford V10.
Truly, a beautiful documentation from the OJIM dash camera from both perspectives that serves the entertainment & educational aspects for the viewer. What a pleasure and reassurance it must have been to travel caravan style in unknown, untamed territory to explore the great and majestic beauty God himself created for us to behold. Safe Journeys Myles!
You hit the nail on the head. When you are out in the middle of nowhere with your rig, you need that security blanket of the TAIL GUNNER behind you to make it that much more enjoyable. In ALL the footage you saw, Donna and Myron, our Tail Gunner Duo was BEHIND us the entire way to assist if something gone awry.
Wow one hell of a drive! Greatviews! Going up that incline with that mill seems like the minimum one would want to have! And great breaks on the waydown hill.
Glad you enjoyed it Gary. We both know that if the motorhome was designed to go 65 up the 14% grades, there would be folks doing it! It's all about "what size engine is needed 99% of the time"...........MINUS 50 hp so the model above what your looking at can have more!!
Two little retired kids enjoying life as it should be.. sounds exactly like the wife and meself! We've been F/T for a yr and a half now! And lovin it!! We drove from Loa Utah ( right outside of Capital Reef ) skirting Bryce on our way to Arizona. Awesome drive. Those grades killed us. We have an F-250 and a 31' bumper pull
Someday I would like to make a video of what it FEELS like for Sue & I to be on this adventure. But it is so depend on one's health, family issues, financial depth of resources, how your relationship is to your travel partner, etc. I don't think it will happen,.....
Mark, thank you so much for so gracefully addressing passenger anxiety. ❤️ It’s a real thing! We have a BMW Z roadster and belong to both our local Z car club here in Arizona as well as the national club. Drives are planned monthly. Husband loves it…I tolerate it. My motto is , “You drive…I’ll look….maybe.” Like Sue, I try to be the best co-pilot & navigator, but it’s hard when you feel like you are about to go careening over the edge of a mountain road at 75 mph. I’m already dreading a group drive up Mt. Lemmon near Tucson, AZ on 12/3. It’s about 9500 feet summit with no guardrail and often has hikers and cyclists alongside. Oh…did I mention we do these drives with our convertible tops DOWN!
Wow! Don't want to get in the middle of this one. But my motto remains the same,......"Happy wife, happy life." I doubt I will ever get Sue to intentionally drive this type of road again on purpose. I got that message loud and clear from her,.......... She sacrifices not seeing her grandson as much as she would like to be with me out RVing. Driving like a milk toast for her on these roads is the least I can do.
Our third year of owning a 38 foot old Dutch Star we went to some of the same places you went on this trip. We stayed at the same RV park in Torrey. After a few weeks of utah dirt and rocks our older German Shorthaired pointer was so happy to have that soft green grass to roll around on. When we left there we headed south I did not know we were to cross the hogsback. Driving stuff like that Is Spooky for me but my husband takes it well. I study our roads a lot more now and use several apps. I have enjoyed watching your big trip and I'm so glad you two have had a great adventure!
Thanks for the nice & kind comment Stacy. It has been a super busy summer for us. We will be slowing down with our video schedule for a few months now because we got so far behind!
The relief on Sue’s face does say it all, that is a challenging and nerve racking drive. Great driving and info Mark and Co-Pilot. We now know, ‘what to anticipate’; when and if, we have the opportunity, to traverse those same roads. Deep breathes Sue. Thank you both.
Simply the best video of scenic highway 12 hands down!!! Loved the way you put it together with the narration and the icing on the cake was the stunning footage!!! 👍😃🍻
@@OurJourneyInMyles We are heading to Bryce Valley RV Park & Horse Ranch next month from the east. In your opinion, would it be okay for us to take highway 12 the whole way with our 48ft 5th wheel. We are 68ft long with the Ram 3500 dually. We have already done several big passes before, but would like your take on it bcuz its over 120 miles long. Thanx!!
We watched this together and I appreciate all the "feelings" shared on this video. The drive itself looks gorgeous but harrowing. Those hairpin turns and narrow cliff roads are what get me every time. I hope my husband is like Mark andd I'm as brave as Sue when it's our turn to do this drive!
Thanks for watching guys. Just go slow and steady,.......and inform your Mark that he needs to talk and tell you what he is doing and report in what is happening. Knowing what I know now, I would not go on this road unless I had a diesel with a jake brake. This is the type of road that blows up engines if you aren't vigilant.
At the end of the video you said thanks for watching the video. Well thank you very much for putting this video on here for us to watch. Simply beautiful scenery hope to take the family out west 1 day. Soon I hope
That right there was a good day!! Great Travel Video you two. Thanks for sharing another awesome video. Nice job riding shotgun and holding it together Sue!!
Sue is the glue in the OJiM driving team. I could not enjoy driving this rig without Sues navigation and eyes up front along with mine. We are a team, and I am lost without her help in most endeavors, ......except drinking coffee with a Cinnamon Roll.
Well sir, I was not driving, (butt, lol) I had my pucker moments. Thinking of making this route (this tour) in the next 2 years with our rig (2019 Newell) with a pickup tote. As many years as I've driven heavy rigs, there are places that truly make you wonder if, you can do it, or afterwards, what was I thinking moments. Thank you for taking Lois & I along on the journey. Not sure if I want to film it, but we want to see it for ourselves, just as you did. Thank you Sue & Mark for all the time you spent putting this together. Hope to see you on the road; Lois & Tex, ScottishxPride, Tx.
Your 600hp will do fine,.........if you don't currently have a dash cam, get one before you go. YOU WILL KICK YOURSELF FOR NOT RECORDING IT. This will be the best video you can ever show your friends. Our camera is in the "Drivers Cab Electronics" section of our Amazon Store. See ourjourneyinmyles.com/say-thanks/
Mark and Sue, thank you so much for filming this entire ride. We’re on the upcoming caravan trip on the same route and it is awesome to see this ahead of time. I’m sure we’ll have the same level of anxiety. I’m a 70 year-old, CPAP, hearing aid wearer too and I hope I can drive it as well as you did. The tears at the end are understandable, but I’m pretty sure I might be the one crying after that ride. Thanks again guys.
Wow! I take my hat off to Sue! My wife would have gone into the bathroom or somewhere far away from the cliffs! I would have been wearing brown pants for the drive along the ridge! Beautiful scenary! Thank you for taking us along, even in the following coach!
The comfort drive and jake break made the driving a breeze. It's the subliminal thoughts of having a blow out at the wrong time that was a little nerve wracking,....
I have felt Sue’s anxiety, cried and said I was done more than once. We had to come off a mountain in Wyoming in the dark so I could handle it. Thanks Sue for letting my husband see that I’m not the only one.
I can relate to your tears & fears. We arrived at Arches national park after dark one year not knowing what was beyond the edge of the asphalt! We had to wait til dark to go back down the mountain back to moab, lol, just so I couldn't see what I knew was a very scary, curvy dropoff just to the edge of the asphalt 😮😊
What an incredible drive. You made a new friend. I'm Tim and I have a Class C and this is now on my bucket list. I have been through 32 states so far as a part time rver. I can't wait to watch more of you channel. I hope to meet up with yall and safe travels.
Mark is author of "Zen and the Art of Fulltime RVing" and combining Mark's sage words about life, the serene music and the spectacular vistas transports the UA-camverse to a new level. Well worth the wait for this video. Thanks.
Great video. I like the perspective of the two cameras. You want some twisty roads and steep grades? Come to south east West Virginia, we can find you some! This Sue doesn’t get rattled much in the passenger seat. Again, love watching your channel. ❤
WOW way to goes guys, I know that had to be one heck of a drive, both breathtaking and oh crap what is next…Sometimes fear and excitement can be so overwhelming it shakes the emotional scale a bit. For those who watch the video that might not have ever try that route will now rethink it and maybe say what the heck let’s go for it.. Safe travel my friends talk soon….
I would tell folks that I personally would rethink going this route if I had a gas motorhome with only an exhaust brake and tow haul. This trip will tax that system 300%, and shorten the service life considerable. That is just my humble engineering, paranoid, Mr. Safety guy ChanMan's opinion.
We don't have a Class A , we are now towing a 35' Fifth wheel with a RAM Cummins Diesel, I didn't mind the steep descents when they are protected on at least one side from cross winds, it's when your on top of the world with steep drops on both sides and no hills or rocks to block the winds. Our trip from Sturgis to Quartzite this fall was a real white knuckle experience in places , I don't remember what road we were on it was either southern Wyoming or Northern Utah on a US Hwy (we try to avoid interstates for the forgotten town experience ) it was a 11-12% down hill road into a small town lots of hairpin turns and being caught between 2 over sized loads. Our Exhaust brake really got a workout that day.
My wife and I hope to make the trip from Torrey to Bryce Canyon in our van next year. Not sure how she is going to tolerate it. She will be in her wheel chair tied down. Your video will help. John & Juli from Minnesota
Wow, what a great video. Thank you both for making and sharing it with us. I’ve been watching your videos all along. For me, this was by far my favorite. Beautiful scenery, scary driving, dual-camera setup, and a successful landing at the end. I’ll need a few minutes for my heart rate to return to normal. Thanks again!
I'm so glad to hear your going to keep traveling out of your comfort zone. You 2 make the best videos and show such beautiful scenery as you travel down the road
Thanks... We did Highway 12 and the Hogsback in the opposite direction. Luckily did not have to climb the 14 percent section but had the engine break on high going down. Hope y'all got some pies at the Gifford House in Capitol Reef.
Wow, what a great drive. We did that about 4 years ago and just beautiful. Up on the ridge we were behind a rancher driving his cattle to a new place to graze. We got to see the ranchers work the cattle with the dogs and it was amazing it was about a 30 minute delay. But it was ok. That is what we love about being retired. You have the time to enjoy life and not be in a big hurry. You guys did some great driving. No worries. The more of these drives you do the more comfortable you will be.
Thank you for sharing this video and the details of driving under those conditions. We are new to RV life and have a DS so your comments are very helpful. Jake-brake level, gear and RPMs. Do some of the rock overhangs extend into the lane? It seems if they did, they would be tearing open semi trailers all day long. Probably close enough to make you pucker some.
It only was in a few spots getting to this area, and I am sure it looked worse than it actually was. This road was fantastic to experience for the driver,.......not so much for the passenger.
We did an Adventure Caravan to the Canadian Maritimes alone the St. Lawrence Seaway in New Brunswick and had a climb of 3 miles at 17 degrees with a 3 miles down at 17 degrees with a small town at the bottom with a 30km speed limit. We had a 42' motorhome with a GMC Acadia in tow. Lots of sharp curves. We were able to climb at about 25mph. No problems, just went slow and saw some nice views.
"The issue with living life is that most of us wait too long to start living it." Another great OJIM video showing what retirement should be like. While we are part-timers today (still working) we do plan to full time in about 3 to 4 years. At that point, yeah, we'll have waited too long but we plan to fully use the time we have. You two are setting the example. Thanks. More of these scenic drive videos, please! BTW, even in our truck, while towing our travel trailer, I also "manage" my passenger by employing her as my co-pilot and also talking about the drive and scenery. Thanks guys.
You are doing it right by NOT starting retirement too early! We just had an $18,800 repair,........not a collision. If our finances weren't in order, we would be done. We run in to folks that are living on a shoestring that will soon be breaking. I LOVED your quote,........I have to use that some day.
Thank you so much for this video. It’s spectacular. Probably the best video of a drive I’ve ever seen. Well put together, well commented. A masterpiece, really! Over the years, I’ve come attached to you guys. Every Sunday, when your video is released, I’m not only happy but can’t wait to watch it. Sue, thank you for sharing this moment of relief at the end. Even though I was warned about what was about to happen, seeing you, with tears of happiness that it was over, touched me greatly and I too got teary eyed. What a great channel and what great people you guys are. With lots of love, I say it again, thank you very much for sharing with us!
Glad I watched the entire video. I hate anything over 6% in my gasser so no way would take that trip. To be honest I’m on medication to relax me so I can drive our class A. My wife has almost had two anxiety attacks on a trip from CA to WA so now she takes something beforehand. It really helps. Being the passenger is the worst. I was passenger twice and about had a heart attack! Thank you for the great video and commentary. New subscriber and I’m enjoying your content.
Going that way this spring. I'll probably be behind a huge motorhome going 24, even though the 6.8 in the van will pass anything, anywhere, sometimes its nice to have a good excuse to stroll along and enjoy the scenery
@@OurJourneyInMyles Oh I'm retired, I get that, nice video by the way, a lot of the van life people don't even respond to comments unless you are a patreon supporter, so I appreciate the reply. Put's you in a different class of people.
Mark, I have to add a post script to my message below. I watched your video on my computer this morning and this afternoon I watched it on my 65 inch living room smart TV. all I can say is like night and day. it felt like I was in the rv with you and the views were so much more realistic and vivid. I must say I had the same feelings Sue had. the many times I've flown planes and did fires on roofs I've never felt the need to hang on to my hat. that hog back is something on big screen. Sue gave you a kiss but I think I would have given you a pat on the shoulder and a good job mark
Thanks Pius! I will have to look at it tonight on the 40" screen! It was edited on a 27" screen. We would record in higher resolution, but the file sizes just get WAY too large. When "Keep Your Daydream" starts uploading above 1080P resolution, then we will too. I felt your pat on the shoulder,......
Grew up on twisty roads with drop offs, drove tractor by the time I was 10 on the roads. But I have never been a good passenger, I feel for you Sue, nothing against a CPAP wearing 70 year old bald man wearing hearing aides and glasses. Mark you are blessed, I hope you guys have many more years traveling together before you slow down. Stay safe and healthy.
Thanks Badger! I am actually going to order at new CPAP machine today. Mine has reached the "end of life" at 27,000 hours of use. This will be the 6th machine I have owned. I have used it since the year 2000. Thinking of getting a toupee for the bald issue,.......
@@OurJourneyInMyles Make sure your machine is not in the recall of CPAP machines. I have only had 2 machines and still have the old one for traveling. 2003 I think I got the first one.
For any hikers in your followers...along the path there is a GREAT hike called Lower Calf Creek Falls (small campground there as well - really small rigs only) (not far from the Hogs Back on the west side)....Really, really good hike but long...
We have done this multiple times. With and without the camp trailer. The driver does not get to see enough of the vistas. Also, it looks even better in the rain with all of the waterfalls coming down over the cliffs.
We love how much this Caravan has given you the courage to go to places that you would have not ventured to before. It has certainly given us more motivation by watching your videos of the Caravan. Fred could not be a passenger either and I am ok with that. What a beautiful view. Mary 💕 Fred
As a soon to be retired couple that are just getting ready to take a plunge into the deep end with a first rig in the 40' range, I found this video to be quite inspirational! I'll admit that winding roads with steep drop offs like that are one of the things that have me a little intimidated from the outside looking in, but it was great to experience it virtually through this video. Thanks for sharing! I'm trying to find a way to get some guided experience driving here (in the northeast) before we buy, but it seems to be a catch 22 - most of the RV driving schools require you to have your own coach. I may have to rent something and arrange a day or two of lessons. I'm curious as to how you got started? Thanks again!
We have never driven in the north east, but hope to someday. We will be NERVOUS because of the narrow, low bridge roads. We will only stay on major roads with the rig. I learned to drive trucks and tow vehicles in my high school "gas station attendant" days, and that was it for training. Slow and steady is the name of the game, and have a travel partner with a walkie talkie outside guiding you. And always take all the room you are given for a turn. You never know when you will need more than you first thought!
At 28.28 Sue announced "arrival", while Mark, with triple confidence is now driving with one finger on the steering wheel....then he adjusts his pants... Haha Great job guys! I've driven the road in my jeep. 💪
Yes you had some hard climbs up the grads but the road is great. Nice wide road and fairley wide paved shoulders. Another interesting road is 64 from /between I-25 through Eagle Nest, Angel Fire then into Taos.
That was a fun ride. Felt like I was right with you in the front seat. Last spring, we took a different route out of Bryce. North on 62 to the 24, a more circuitous route and different scenery but equally as beautiful. I'm looking forward to Hwy 12, next time. Thanks for taking me along!
That would have been the route we would most likely have taken. But we wanted to stick with all the others on the caravan, and used the trip log route.
I have done both the driving and the riding. I know what your feeling, Sue, I don't like heights either. Beautiful scenery, but I would do that in my toad.
We stayed at that same park it was very nice. We came in from the other direction from the north. We did not drive byway 12 in our gasser motorhome towing heading to Bryce but instead drove it halfway going east then drove the other way west the other half later in the week but did it both in the car. I didn’t feel like the MH was up to it after driving Monarch Pass Hwy 50 earlier in the month.
We did flaming gorge with an 8% down hill grade and it felt like our 28 ft. Motor home would come over the top of us. I can't imagine what 14% would feel like. Great video!
So glad you watched it Pam! Know you know what 14% was like. I would drive this route again in a heartbeat. I was talking to Sue the day before this video was released, and she said no.
Great job Mark has an over the road truck driver you did very well just gotta remember going up those great inclines and get into that elevation part of the problem is the air is so thin your motor doesn’t run properly I drive a 2011 F250 gas and pull a 27 foot fifth wheel it made it through to Yellowstone going up at 10% grade from Buffalo to Cody WyomingThanks from Wisconsin
I have always enjoyed your travel days videos but this was phenomenal. The entire series of this caravan tour was outstanding. Thank you for sharing. Be safe.
This was fun watching. Great video and ya I would be scared going up grade and down grade. Some roads play trucks on us too! I know the road going to mesquite Nv. There a curve that is tight and you don’t want to look down. It’s pretty scary. Safe travels and see you both soon!
I discovered this road about 40 years ago on a motorcycle trip, years later I noted that it was included in a list of the top ten most scenic roads in America by a major motorcycle magazine...
We would never have known about this route if it wasn't for the Adventure Caravan's Tour. We agree with that assessment,.....it is one we will never forget.
We drove the hog back road this summer also pulling 36 ft fifth wheel, wind was high and I was scared to death. Knuckles white as snow. I don’t intend to drive it again ! Truck we have is 2020 Chev Duramax with Allison 10 speed and had zero problem with power or pulling, engine brake was great.
We were lucky,.....no wind that I could tell. Only about three times in 5.5 years have I ever felt that it was windy in the rig. Then, of course, I would slow down accordingly.
If you have the time, and the ability with a smaller vehicle/combination the overlooks between Torrey and Boulder looking out over toward Capitol Reef are worth stops. If you can take advantage of the turnouts on the Hogback, it's definitely worth taking a few minutes to check out the canyons on both sides. Or maybe not, depending on your wariness of heights. The only "main" road with a similar pucker factor is Highway 1 between Carmel and San Simeon on the Central California Coast. Cliffs on the shore side, and cliffs dropping to the ocean on the sea side.
I bet you are happy you have those Retro-Bands on your front wheels when traveling roads like this with no guardrails and steep embankments with very little shoulder. I know my "pucker factor" would go through the roof on these roads thinking about the consequences of a steering axle blowout. Beautiful scenery but its difficult to enjoy when you have to focus so intently on your driving.
With Comfort Drive, the steering is exact, with zero hunting around. With the Jake Brake, you feel fully in control. With the Rettrobands, you at least have a backup plan. But yes,.......a blow out on this road would many times not end well. I NEVER brought this up with my lovely wife Sue, but I thought about it a few times while driving!
Great video with great narration. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it Rob!
Success! Thanks for taking us along........
You bet Bryan.
Beautiful, Beautiful and Beautiful!
Thank you very much!
Yes Yes Yes!!! What a great journey, great driving, great navigator!! More please ….
If it was up to me, I would make these every month!
Pucker factor....I give it a 10, even though it's on a scale of 1-5!!! Best part for me........."with no end in sight". Love what you do.
That so much Larry. The obvious thing to stop folks from RVing FT is health. But the second biggest for us may be money. I need a little cheer this week. Our pleasure again Wayne, as usual!
I absolutely love your videos of your travel days !
Thank you so much Michelle. I actually like making them the most, but not all folks like them. We try to throw out an assortment for everyone.
Awesome drive. We can’t wait to do it ourselves.
Slow and steady but so worth the trip.
You are blessed - thanks again for sharing your adventures. 👍
Thanks for watching guys!
I love how you take care of each other proactively - your empathy for each other is deep, mutual, and forward-minded. 💙🤍❤️
Loved this comment so much I read it out loud to Sue. Thanks Raoul!
I traveled that road and it's a spectacular drive.
It was a great ride to do at least once. Wouldn't like a blow out on this road.
I was holding my breath watching this! Spectacular. Need a drink now! LOL
It was so exciting I needed a drink while driving, but coffee had to do,......
wow my wife and i just loved reliving this thanks
Glad you enjoyed it Allan enough for TWO comments!
@@OurJourneyInMyles lol well its was just an incredable ride all our best
Oh Sue my heart goes out to you. It is most scary. Thanks for sharing and letting us see your vulnerability.
That scene kind of broke my heart a little,......I have given her a few hugs over it.
I look forward to your video’s every week - this was an awesome travel day adventure ❤🎉 Thanks
Yay! Thank you!
WOW!!!! AWESOME
Thanks for taking the ride with us,...
Absolutely. I would drive this route again in a heartbeat. I was talking to Sue the day before this video was released, and she said no.
Excellent call making this a separate video! WOW what an amazing ride!
Glad you enjoyed it! I loved making it, and ACTUALLY DOING the drivE. Sue would take a pass given the choice.
Simply the best video of scenic highway 12 hands down!!! Loved the way you put it together with the narration and the icing on the cake was the stunning footage!!!
👍😃🍻
Thanks Mike. This was one of my favorite videos to edit.
Soon I hope
Thanks for the kind comment Erick, it was our pleasure to have another passenger!
Hope to see you on the road;
Lois & Tex,
ScottishxPride, Tx.
What a great ride! Thanks Mark for driving.
Glad you enjoyed it John. We need three seats up front.
This is the most spectacular ride we have ever taken. Go slow and steady, and breathe it all in. I hope you have a jake brake.
Yep. Be cool and calm. Using the tools the bus has works well.
I totally agree with you Mark.
You're right, Best seat in the house!
I have to hand it to our travel partners,..........the passenger seat is a challenge to be in sometimes........
It's all about working through the issues of RVing to make your travels together awesome for both of you,.......... equally,.......
Wow, amazing😮. We will be taking this route Spring of 2023 pulling a 28’ travel trailer. Thanks for sharing.
Best of luck Sherrie!
Nice view of valley & Mountains.
It really was.
What an incredible drive. You made a new friend. I'm Tim and I have a Class C and this is now on my bucket list. I have been through 32 states so far as a part time rver. I can't wait to watch more of you channel. I hope to meet up with yall and safe travels.
Thanks for taking the time to take a look!
3x watching this video. I'm sure it won't be the last !!!
Hey Clayton,......you should see how many times I had to watch it making it!
Mark is author of "Zen and the Art of Fulltime RVing" and combining Mark's sage words about life, the serene music and the spectacular vistas transports the UA-camverse to a new level. Well worth the wait for this video. Thanks.
Thanks for that Jim! Sue is in Milwaukee this week. We have no video for next Sunday. It's all on me. We are doomed,.....
we did it in our 5th wheel loved seeing it again thank you
That is awesome! I had it way easier!
Great video. I like the perspective of the two cameras. You want some twisty roads and steep grades? Come to south east West Virginia, we can find you some! This Sue doesn’t get rattled much in the passenger seat. Again, love watching your channel. ❤
Thanks for stopping by guys!
Utah is a breathtaking state for sure.
You can say that again. So glad I am finally finding this all out.
Great drive, nice road. Keep on keeping on.
Thanks, will do!
I took that trip from Bryce at the end of October and the 12 percent grade has a speed limit of 30 mph. What a great drive.
I liked it too,........Sue,..........not so much.
I think we were on some of that stretch the day my dashboard instruments would go blank! That was fun.
Amazing trip!
It was one to remember for sure!
My wife and I hope to make the trip from Torrey to Bryce Canyon in our van next year. Not sure how she is going to tolerate it. She will be in her wheel chair tied down. Your video will help. John & Juli from Minnesota
Go slow and steady, and constantly tell her how things are going with you and what you are seeing ahead of you. Wish you guys a safe and SLOW trip!
Mark LOVED this drive,............Sue was glad it was over. We would never have forgiven ourselves if we hadn't experienced it together at least once.
one of the best videos you guys have made so far in my opinion. keep up the great job
I love to make travel day videos, but we also try to mix things up for others. Thanks for stopping in.
Thanks, great
You are welcome Paul!
Great video, so sorry for Sue’s tears
She was a trouper that day!
At the end of October last year we headed up the mountain from Torrey and hit snow! What is usually a beautiful ride just got interesting 😂
Wow! I would have had a nervous breakdown.
I'm so glad to hear your going to keep traveling out of your comfort zone. You 2 make the best videos and show such beautiful scenery as you travel down the road
Thank you so much Gary for the kind words and encouragement!
Thanks... We did Highway 12 and the Hogsback in the opposite direction. Luckily did not have to climb the 14 percent section but had the engine break on high going down. Hope y'all got some pies at the Gifford House in Capitol Reef.
No! We got our pie fix at Bryce Canyon Pines, the recommended place right outside of Bryce National Park.
That is awesome! We love being retired and able to be in the right place, at the right time, with the right attitude to enjoy life to the fullest.
looks like a GREAT road for a sportscar.
Yes! But only when I was younger,......
Wow. Now that would be a great video!
I'm not an RV person, but I loved this video. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! This was a driver I will always remember,..........in a good way!
@@OurJourneyInMyles wow an almost $19K repair? Would like to know what that was, but perhaps this will be the subject of a future video?
OK Michel, now I am tearing up! Thank you for enjoying this episode as much as we enjoyed producing it.
I have to admit I would never attempt this route with a gasser. It is just too much weight & elevation for that machinery.
Going that way this spring. I'll probably be behind a huge motorhome going 24, even though the 6.8 in the van will pass anything, anywhere, sometimes its nice to have a good excuse to stroll along and enjoy the scenery
I am that excuse for most folks,......PLUS I have the added bonus of a "Florida License Plate" to advertise I am retired!
Mark, great job driving. I wanted to travel there but now, maybe not.
A man's gotta know his limitations!
For any hikers in your followers...along the path there is a GREAT hike called Lower Calf Creek Falls (small campground there as well - really small rigs only) (not far from the Hogs Back on the west side)....Really, really good hike but long...
WOW! For the younger crowd, and young at heart, you have just thrown down the challenge. For me,.....that ship has sailed.
We have done this multiple times. With and without the camp trailer. The driver does not get to see enough of the vistas. Also, it looks even better in the rain with all of the waterfalls coming down over the cliffs.
Wow! Rain would be awesome except for making the Jake Brake "grip" getting slippery!
Great video. Still trying to convince my wife to let me take the 3500 Ram and 40’ 5th wheel on the hogback. Wish me luck!!
I think I agree with the wife Phillip!
We love how much this Caravan has given you the courage to go to places that you would have not ventured to before. It has certainly given us more motivation by watching your videos of the Caravan. Fred could not be a passenger either and I am ok with that. What a beautiful view. Mary 💕 Fred
We agree! It was a great adventure and learning experience all wrapped up into one.
Beautiful video
Thanks,........I LOVED this ride,.....
At 28.28 Sue announced "arrival", while Mark, with triple confidence is now driving with one finger on the steering wheel....then he adjusts his pants... Haha
Great job guys! I've driven the road in my jeep. 💪
Parking is the hard part!
Brings new meaning to “White-Knuckle Syndrome”, you two are more courageous than we are!
The Caravan gave us the confidence to go on this route,............PLUS,..............we wanted to take all of the OJiM crowd along as well.
Yes you had some hard climbs up the grads but the road is great. Nice wide road and fairley wide paved shoulders.
Another interesting road is 64 from /between I-25 through Eagle Nest, Angel Fire then into Taos.
Thanks 👍 William for the tip! You are correct,.....the surface of that road was outstanding by comparison to others.
I totally agree! Being the passenger is the scariest seat in the house,.....
Smart move. We all have to look out to see what will work out the best in each travel configuration we are using!
i have watched all of your video and some more than TWICE. Love it! lol
You're the best! We wish we had more viewers like you! I have to admit,........I watch our videos WAY more than twice,.....
@@OurJourneyInMyles No doubt. They're informative, and the sites are breathtaking. Love it! :) ,

Yes Sir! We are flatlanders,........and learning along the way to be mountain men!
What a great video! And thank you so much for showing what it's like as the passenger!
My RV broke,........ a couple weeks ago,........had about 8 items fixed including a new Oasis Diesel Boiler unit,............$18,800. Ouch!
@@OurJourneyInMyles yep RV lifestyle keeps you broke thus our channel name!!
That was amazing … yes whew ! 😂🎉
Thanks for stopping by!
We drove that road the day my dashboard instruments decided to blank out!
@@OurJourneyInMyles 👋😊
Nice job driving. Love the video. Having fun watching all of your videos. The trip has been amazing. Have a safe trip.
Thanks for checking it out Thomas.
Hang on for Dear Life
It was the best drive of my life!
I have always enjoyed your travel days videos but this was phenomenal. The entire series of this caravan tour was outstanding. Thank you for sharing. Be safe.
Thanks Robert. We saw more, did more, and enjoyed more things on this Caravan then we could have imagined.
This was fun watching. Great video and ya I would be scared going up grade and down grade. Some roads play trucks on us too! I know the road going to mesquite Nv. There a curve that is tight and you don’t want to look down. It’s pretty scary. Safe travels and see you both soon!
This was a fun video for me (Mark) to make.
Great video 😃 but with all high mountain roads myles did good 👍 😀
Thanks 👍 Myles came through great,..........its my Oasis Boiler that just cost us $12,500 that was a corker.
We had a friend drive us through that area! We loved it!
