Why does Universal Studios keep closing all of their classic rides that made the park iconic? Disney does an excellent job of preserving their classic rides for future generations to see by constantly expanding their parks. Universal Studios always builds a new ride over the old one and they never expand their park. I feel like Universal should build a third park and revamp all of their classic rides. It can be called Retroversal Studios as a tribute to the early 90’s rides.
Rest assured, Disney does pretty frequently close and replace old rides (or sometimes just abandon them and leave them standing), and there are a lot of Disney-fan videos out there complaining about it. As well as requests for a Walt Disney World fifth gate just consisting of revivals of extinct rides (which will never happen either, but it's a fun thing to dream about). Universal doesn't have anything like the vast space for expansion that Disney bought in Florida back in the Sixties. They have, however, just acquired a new plot of land some distance from their current Orlando resort that they're clearly angling to develop into a third theme park. At this point, nobody knows exactly what's going to be there.
If you mean Disney World, then yes, they do save a lot of the classics because they have a ton of land to expand and build new things. Disneyland, not so much, they don't have the space to expand. They have to replace the areas that aren't doing as well as the others.
Sorry to say that Disney is very guilty of this too under Iger. The Great Movie Ride has fallen by the wayside, Pirates of Caribbean has been totally ruined and the likes of Space Mountain and Tower of Terror have been rethemed in some of their parks. It's only going to get worse as these soulless CEOs and new imitations of what we used to call imagineers realise they can make more money with cheap simulator-style rides that are simply themed by the latest Box Office success. Even classic films like Jaws, let alone original storylines, do not have the same financial draw anymore, in the eyes of these pricks anyway.
Neither park chain is keeping all of their classic attractions, and they get some backlash when they're removed. Disney is better at this than Universal, no doubt, since the Hyperspace Mountains still are just reskinned Space Mountains, and still show it (and are temporary overlays), while Universal just tears it out. Universal just doesn't actually have that sense of something being classic. They removed one of the best classic dueling coasters ever, in favor of Harry Potter! But that's the problem with having world-famous amusement parks built off of highly-themed, IP-based, highly immersive attractions. While (most) Cedar Fair and Six Flags parks can get away with tearing out or moving most rides (as long as they bring a good replacement, such as how Goliath replaced Iron Wolf at SF Great America), Disney and Universal parks cannot do so (most of the time) without massive reactions. The public really has to not care about something (like Snow White's Scary Adventures or Stitch's Great Escape, neither of which made an uproar when removed) in order for there to not be a big reaction when something is demolished. While I will say I'm slightly (majorly) ticked at the removal of Maelstrom in favor of Frozen (Get your own attraction Frozen, don't reskin something else! I'm sure all that overmerchandise money can buy it!), even though I didn't care much about the ride beforehand, and I will say that Mission: Breakout is probably quite dated, I will say, as long as the original classics (such as Space Mountain and Thunder Mountain) are kept alive, Disney will still (mostly) please old-timers and newcomers alike, even though it leaves those looking for pure thrills like R&RC in the dust.

Ah this ride means so much to me. My parents met at the ride when my father worked at the ride and my mom was a universal tour guide. Apparently my dad actually forgot to load the ride cause he was talking to her. It's my favorite story. I might only exist cause this ride did. It's a true shame I never got to ride it. I'm so glad to finally learn about the ride!
Wow, someone should make a movie about this! Where you’re accidentally transported back to universal before you were born and one of your parents tries to bang you instead so you have to get them together to ensure you are born……not sure anyone would watch that tho.
“Your future hasn't been written yet. No one's has. Your future is whatever you make it. So make it a good one.” I may paraphrase this a little, but it’s still one hell of a powerful message. :)
Hearing about why these attractions get replaced reminds me of how generational some things are. Universal was a park sold on the idea of "movie magic". To a kid growing up in the '80s and '90s, stuff like Back to the Future, Jaws and E.T. really said that. The new attractions that replaced them don't have that same appeal.
Yes and I find that really strange. They are a film studio, after all, the whole selling point is immersing the guests in the sets of the films they love (same with Disney's Hollywood Studios) If anything though, there are too many rides like Back to the Future now - the brilliant thing about Kongfrontation, Jaws, Earthquake/Disaster and Twister (and The Great Movie Ride at Disney) was they were like being in actual film sets.
I mean the movies you listed are truley multigenerational, I think universal make a mistake every time they remove one of the classic rides based on great movies.
Here's a cool bit of trivia. This info comes from a friend and fellow engineer who worked at Universal after we graduated college. The original ride's "construction" issues were actually dangerous tremors set off by the motions of the ride cars. The original designers weren't able to test the ride with full load/all cars until a few months before opening. When tested at full load, the jerky motions produced so much torque that the ride supports almost torn themselves from the building foundation. Obviously too dangerous for the public, the openings were postponed for safety. After much discussion, it was decided to use only half the cars at one time to minimize the stress on the support structure and building. This created the epic wait times that made the ride famous. Even at half load the ride was still trying to tear itself loose from the building. Under the guise of "guest comfort" the ride motion was lessened to further reduce the amount of torque damage. This bought the ride some time, but it's days were numbered. The ride continued to damage itself and eventually engineers were spending too much time fixing it. Management pulled the plug after the ride spent most of it's seasons closed. The BTTF ride in CA fared a little better, since it was mounted on earthquake-proof shock frames. It was still detuned like the Orlando one and eventually started breaking more often. They were great rides, but time and old age just got to them. I remember riding the Orlando one just after it opened and almost tossing my cookies. It was a neck snapper! After the detune, it was ok but never as fun. It now lives in my memory.
Is it possible the shake of the ride itself _may_ of actually shook the waiting room? The first time riding it, I remember _specifically_ that they used to shake, and I always figured it was apart of the ride.
That was actually a really clever set up to get all those Deloreans moving and shaking without breaking immerseion for any one set of riders. Usually, you can tell pretty early on why a ride on Defunctland got scrapped, but this one seemed to really do well for itself.
NK u know, they should have put one side of the attraction, with BTTF and the other side with the Simpsons, ik somebody else commented it. But its such a cool idea tho,:/
The back to the future ride was outdated and the movie isn’t as culturally relevant as it used to be. I’ve been on both and honestly the BTTF ride was just boring by modern standards. You sit in a shaky car in front of a low-quality screen playing a low-quality video. With the Simpsons, they were able to theme the area a bit with a quik-e-mart outside the ride too which looks nice.
Defuctland VR! Love the idea, being able to re-ride old favorites that have long been gone only by strapping on a headset. I’d pay good money to to experience that!
"An effect that Universal expected to cause motion sickness among many visitors. Which actually didn't happen" Didn't retain that for The Simpsons Ride, now did they? Most barf-inducing ride I've ever been on, no hyperbole.
Simpson’s ride is the same concept except they’ve manage to fit more of those little carts into a room that is lifted up and you’re facing this like 80 foot tall curved screen. It’s pretty badass in retrospect but yeah I imagine with the Back to the Future Theme it’d be 100 times better.
One thing that not many know is that while the BTTF ride in Japan officially "closed" on May 31, 2016, it was actually open for an extra half day on June 1, 2016 for crew members of USJ. The ride was walled off from the main park, but us crew members could access it through a gate on the offset area they opened up that afternoon. I would guess that most people know this already, but there were other special events for the general guests, such as paying for a special park entry ticket that would let you ride without waiting in line, as well as a special memorial framed photo of one posing with the DeLorean they used to have in front of the ride before they auctioned it off. They also had an actor dressed as Doc Brown drive a Delorean Time Machine down the main street from the entrance of the park, stop, and take photos posing with guests a few times a day until the last day of the ride.
Incredibly late reply, but I've always loved USJ. I went to it the first time in 2010 or thereabouts, and it was my first time at a Universal Studios parks since going to the California one on family vacations in the 90s. Seeing all of my favorite rides from childhood STILL THERE--Jaws, BTTF, T2:3D--waiting to receive me and give me that shot of nostalgia was so great. I'm gutted that they shut down BTTF, as I didn't get to go again before it ended, but I'll always love USJ best among the Universal Studios parks just because it was like a snapshot in time for me.
I went on this ride by myself (my mom wouldn't go on any rides) when I was 16 ish and I thought it was so amazing. I was so proud of myself of working up the courage since I was terrified of coasters at the time and wasn't sure what the ride was going to be like based on the outside of it. Afterwards I bought a tee shirt in the gift shop that said something like "Sit down and shut up" to commemorate my triumph.
I saved watching this until today, March 30, 2019. This is the 12th anniversary of the closure of BTTF in Orlando. It was a sad day for me, as BTTF was the most fun place I’d ever worked at all my years at Universal Orlando. It was the only place where I got employee of the month, then getting the Bravo (divisional) employee of the month the next month. I worked with a great crew and had a lot of fun with them. I had also loved the BTTF movies and the cartoon show, and knowing a ride would exist was exciting. I loved the BTTF ride. It was a must-ride every time. Rest well, Back to the Future. You will always be the greatest ride of all time. *GREAT SCOTT!*
Wow this brought back memories... I got to be one of the Beta testers for the ride (California version) and I worked at Universal Studios back in the day as well.
1. We need suggestions for the name of the third section of Defunctland! Head over to the Defunctland subreddit, or submit your suggestions below! www.reddit.com/r/Defunctland/ 2. Yeah. I messed up the name of the era of the dinosaur theme. Apologies.
Defunctland you can do the Monsanto House of the future! Also your ideas for the VR park truly did grab my interest, if you want you should start up a IndieGogo account to help hire some animators and help polish some models
Add water fountains? Surprised they didn't yank out the 1 water fountain that was there, from the beginning, and open a cold drink empire at the end of that ride!
BTTF is my brother's favorite movie, when we visited Universal back in 2001 we rode this ride over and over and over again. Fantastic ride and my whole family misses it more than any other defunct attraction.
I remember riding this as a kid, and I had no idea there were other Deloreans set up and pointed at the screen. They did an amazing job of making it feel like it was just a single car with a screen in front of you.
This is probably gonna go ignored but if you have a theme park, you need food. An idea I have for a video is foods that have been removed or discontinued from theme parks.
The book from which that anecdote comes says that a doctor consulted about concerns about motion-sickness said that jerking motions make people thirsty. Shrug emoji.
"I want to get a virtual experience of all of the rides that covered culture in theme parks in the 80's and 90's." Seems like I've heard something like this before. Is your real name James Halliday?
My family and I went on the Florida version of this thing in the early 90's (probably 91). It was so incredible, we went twice in the same day. It was by far the highlight of the park at the time and we were left speechless. I had no idea that the ride had 2 separate domes. By the way, it did make a difference as to which car and row you were in, as to the level of immersion experienced. Being stuck in the corners definitely detracted from the optimal effect of the film. Nothing was sadder than my level of disappointment in the ride, when I road the LA version in 03. This was in no way do to the concept. The 70 mm was so degraded, colors dulled, projection brightness dimmed - even the sound was flat. These rides are truly like living breathing creations, they have a limited life span and especially with photo chemical film, they age. I'll always have my original memory and I have yet to experience a more impressive, immersive, narrative ride. I wonder how Peter Jackson's Universal Kong Experience was like? Poor Edlund, (had no idea) such a talent and Boss always seemed to get the shaft. Great Job KP!
You should do a video on ToonTown and the weird Mickey and Minnie houses. They fascinated me as a kid but watching videos of it now makes it seem a little eerie for some reason.
I rode this in January of 1998 when my dad and soon to be step mom, my brother and soon to be step sister and step brother went to Disney World for vacation. The BTTF ride was a major highlight of the trip for me! I was 12 ❤
Brianna Hanover I know right? When I heard the announcement back in 2006 and they shut it down anyway in 2007 I so devastated when I heard about the Simpsons taking over I've ridden the Simpsons one and don't want to ride it again I love back to the future way better
Brianna Hanover Only reason I will go to universal studios Florida is the pay my respects and see the time train and the Delorean thats It I will not step 1 foot in that simpsons ride at all ever
I was going to suggest in one of the last few videos to ditch the Kevin Purj channel name and just make Defunctland as your channel name. Glad you did that! I think you'll get more subs now(you deserve way more than you currently have anyway). I would also suggest doing the E.T. Ride, even though it's still open. I just love hearing about the history and making of these rides. Keep it up!
Such a fun experience ! I was about 10 when I got to visit Universal in Orlando and even then, I wondered how this ride could work only seating 8 people at a time when we had waited so long! Lol I never knew there were several Delorians each time! Awesome video! Really great memories of a much happier time!
My brother used to work on the hollywood ride. I'm surprised you didnt mention the little girl that got crushed by one of the cars. That car was haunted ever since and would turn on by itself.
It seems to me that Universal Studios California likes to update everything every five or ten years. I went there in 1986, 1994, and in 2005. There was very little that was the same from one visit to the next. I guess they like to keep up with the changing franchises, but I also think they have deal with limited space since it is also a functional studio.
Nickelodeon Studios was at Universal Studios Florida. This channel seems to cover Disney and Universal among others. Soooooo...not sure at all where you're coming from.
I know that as of 2012 the wrestling company TNA used the soundstage from Double Dare, and Clarissa Explains it all to film their show, TNA iMpact! I only know this because I lived like 1/2 mile from Universal City Walk. I do not know if they are currently using the stage for anything
My dad worked for Universal Studios Hollywood as a software engineer and one summer while out of high school I got to ride into work with him and spend all day in the park during the week days. I've ridden Back to the Future at least 200 times. To this day it's still my favorite ride. Loved it! My theory on why it made people thirsty is that there was some mist effect at the end of the ride, which I suspect was made using propylene glycol, the same stuff that's used to create that mist effect at concerts (and vape). Some people get a dry throat from that, but it never bothered me.
He's still pitched it down a bit. I'm guessing he dislikes the sound of his own voice and wants to sound more manly or some crap. His voice is probably fine and this just highlights his insecurity... but whaddayagonnado?
The train and car are still in the Studios (Orlando) - the car is next to the taco truck in Springfield, and the train is somewhere around New York....for some reason.
Stumbling across your channel and binging... to realize literally every Universal ride I loved in 2001 (my last park visit) is gone and it's blowing my mind!! ET, Jaws, King Kong, Earthquake, Back to the Future... are any old attractions remaining? What.. what.. what.. I'm shook and frankly- emotional. 16yo me is suddenly nostalgic AF.
Having the original queue and ride footage on the Blu-Ray is one of my favorite things about that set. It's not perfect like you mentioned, but at least they put together the effort, and its better than nothing for someone like me who never got to experience the original.
The displays are still there as of November 2017. Btw great idea for the VR DefunctLand. If Planet Coaster ever becomes more advanced I would suggest building it through there or No Limits 2.
I remember going on this ride back in 2003, I found it kinda strange that the narrator sounded a lot like Hacker from Cyberchase, but that when I was a kid, and it was before I learned that they were played by the same actor.
if it's going to be VR, do an action park themed area where ragdolls are continously thrown off extremely dangerous rides and dismembered, take inspiration from Stair Dismount and similar games.
The reason no one got motion sickness is because you were crammed into those Deloreans like sardines! I've pics of the Florida exterior. A pic of mom proudly standing next to a Delorean -- she worked for GM. God, the memories. The holes in my heart. It's all gone. Everyone I shared those moments with are gone. But then I saw all those names at the beginning of your vid and realized that, of course, I'm not the only one remembering walking to BttF while sneering at ET across the walkway. LOL. I guess, I'm trying to say is thank you for reminding me I'm not alone. I couldn't be. Hell, all those people we stood in the queue with? But then, in your memories, those people are just filler, mannequins. I don't remember them, just me...mom...and the Delorean. She used to beam with such pride. BttF was also a family favorite. She loved Doc. I love Doc. We ALL LOVE DOC!
I miss this ride, BTTF was always a good one and it was a shame it was taken down. I remember going to Disney a few years after the removal wearing a "Hill Valley Highs 1955 Enchantment Under the Sea Dance" shirt and one of the employees called me over to say he missed the ride too.
I was the Art Director on both the Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera and Jimmy neutron’s nicktoon blast. While working for Universal Planning & Development on the Hanna-Barbera ride, my producer was also in charge of BTTF and was instrumental in hiring Doug Trumbull. The early boards for BTTF depicted a daytime environment. It wasn’t until Trumbull was hired that it became a dark ride.
I remember riding this as a kid and loving it. I still remember bumping Biff's car and looking to see the other cars next to us, but that didn't matter. It was really fun and I'm always impressed with the engineering of theme park rides.
You've improved so much. The quality difference between these earlier videos vs the latest ones is insane. Gj in improving and most importantly: just doing it!
This ride was so very awesome even the ride cue and the little extras were so awesome. Seeing Biff and Doc reprise their rolls was so damn cool. It meant soooo much to me as a kid and still does
I rode this after it opened in the early 90's and it was my favorite ride there. I remember the last time I rode it in the 2000s it seemed very jerkey and not as immersive as the motion rides had improved a lot since the early 90's. It was almost outdated despite being a fun ride so it's probably right that they closed it. The short clip of the crash dummies doing the safety was always funny when we were kids.
I am watching this the same day I have watched your VR 20,000 Leagues video. And what I thought was crazy three years ago has come true. Kevin, you are a STAR in the Hollywood firmament. Or should I say 'fermamint'?
I remember being impressed with the details of the waiting area more than the actual ride itself. I also remember being super disappointed with the ride compared to the hours (maybe less than a hour I was like 7) I had to wait for the ride. Also being a stupid kid I actually never realized that there were other cars in the theatre as well.
this came up in my recommended as i’m on the middle of a Back to the Future phase yet again, but how amazing to see this right after Defunctland VR was announced! ahhh so cool
I remember riding this back in 2000 at Universal Studios Hollywood. Unbeknownst to us, my dad had his camcorder in his lap during the ride and recorded the whole thing. We rode it 3 times and walked away with a home movie of our experience.
Thanks for the shoutout!!! Well obviously now you have to do Earthquake! Don't forget your park is gonna need shows too! There was a Ghostbusters show at Universal, and you can find most footage from the show on UA-cam. Beetlejuice also had a great show at Universal too.
It was sad that it closed because when I went to universal some time after March 2007 I was finally tall enough to ride it and when I got there I found out it closed and I was devastated.
Excellent video and what a superb ride. Simpson’s doesn’t come remotely close. The awesome thing about Future (besides also being a WAY better story in the ride) was there were definite moments you really felt you were THERE in the adventure, it was SO effective and convincing. Simpson’s is ANIMATED so from start to finish, well, its a ANIMATION so its automatically not convincing in the realistic sense that BTTF was. Miss it sincerely!!
"No voice modulation", so you did do it in previous episodes? But it still sounds like you're using one, as your voice will be higher piched and more natural later.
I was pissed when I went to universal years ago to discover this ride got replaced. It was hilarious though when I stood up before the Simpsons ride began. They covered everything up as the Simpsons EXCEPT the DeLoreans, but of course you arent supposed to stand up during the ride so you arent supposed to see em.
My dad has been building theme park rides for about 25 years. It's not super important, but in my childhood home we have one of the grandfather clocks found in the Universal Orlando queue for this ride. He also almost got sued by Universal cause he wanted to take King Kong's nipple from storage and hang it up in our house. Thanks for the videos!
I haven't read 1.1k posts, so this may have already been said, but as of June 2018, the BTTF locomotive outside the Simpsons ride in Universal Orlando has now been removed and the strip of land between the Simpsons ride and the lake is a construction site.

So true
I mean the movies you listed are truley multigenerational, I think universal make a mistake every time they remove one of the classic rides based on great movies.
Rides that should have never been touched
Back to the Future
Jaws
ET
Kongfrontation
I concur
"And-- oh, look, it's a Styrofoam cup left on the model table."
DEAD
Even 3 Years ago he knew how to do the funny....
Yeah my dad could never ride this one it killed his body lol
Is it possible the shake of the ride itself _may_ of actually shook the waiting room? The first time riding it, I remember _specifically_ that they used to shake, and I always figured it was apart of the ride.
I rode this in 93 as a kid. The ride was so jerky my hat fell off into the second row behind me.
i rode the one in CA a lot when i was a kid, it was soooooo much fun!!!!!! definitely a lot of movement, it was the most exciting ride in the park
I never knew this about Back To The Future: The Ride.
I don't know why but when it was mentioned that the original director had a strange fixation on blimps I laughed sooo freaking hard
That was actually a really clever set up to get all those Deloreans moving and shaking without breaking immerseion for any one set of riders.
Usually, you can tell pretty early on why a ride on Defunctland got scrapped, but this one seemed to really do well for itself.
Replacing this ride with the Simpsons was the biggest crime Universal has ever committed.
They're going to have to replace the attraction now because Disney bought the Simpsons
But the Simpsons Ride is hilarious.
@@Zarastro54 honestly do to the new owners of the property the attraction will probably be switched out for something else
Replacing Dueling Dragons and Jaws with Harry Potter was worse.
@@keithwellerlounge74 Jaws was kind of a disaster and how is that worse I sorta understand dueling dragons but really Jaws
Cretaceous period, not the Crustaceous-this wasn't an epoc filled with lobsters
I was hoping I wasn't the only one who noticed that. I imagined a tyrannosaurus rex with a shell.
LOL, I bet catching crabs in that time period took on a whole new meaning.
Hahaahah..
*epoch
See? How's that feel? :-P
I like The Simpsons... but no way in hell should it have replaced "Back to The Future."
Why couldnt they have added it in? back to the future is an iconic movie ..
NK u know, they should have put one side of the attraction, with BTTF and the other side with the Simpsons, ik somebody else commented it. But its such a cool idea tho,:/
Yeah, they should've just updated the ride.
@@ryanbarofsky4948 Not low quality by that time standards. Cost a lot of money to film. And the movie has a huge cult fan base worldwide.
I have come to love that old man who introduces the Universal Studios Rides. It adds so much weight to EVERYTHING.
This was a great ride. They should bring it back...to the future 😉
No one laughed theh just cried
-in background- OH BROTHER, THIS GUY S T I N K S
I'm genuinely curious: does anyone know why the ride made people thirsty? That's a really strange effect I've never heard of before.
Maybe they were aroused by seeing Doc Brown on the big screen.
it probably was a mix of the motion sickness, fisheye video, and having to wait in infamously long lines
80's Nostalgia Guy oooo
It's the effect of traveling through time and space.
I totally remember getting thirsty after the ride,I always craved a pepsi
Defuctland VR! Love the idea, being able to re-ride old favorites that have long been gone only by strapping on a headset. I’d pay good money to to experience that!
Me too! Also I'd love to help building Defunctland!
"An effect that Universal expected to cause motion sickness among many visitors. Which actually didn't happen"
Didn't retain that for The Simpsons Ride, now did they? Most barf-inducing ride I've ever been on, no hyperbole.
they distortion in the simpsons actually made me want to throw up...never had this problem with back to the future whatsoever
The way you say "Great Scott" in such a bored way is beautiful.
I really need to stop watching these videos, seeing epic rides i'll never get to go on is soul crushing 😞
This ride needs to come back it's too good.
Kim J yeah FUCK THE SIMPSONS RIDE
I agree it needs to come back
Simpson’s ride is the same concept except they’ve manage to fit more of those little carts into a room that is lifted up and you’re facing this like 80 foot tall curved screen. It’s pretty badass in retrospect but yeah I imagine with the Back to the Future Theme it’d be 100 times better.
I miss this ride...on a trip to Universal a long time ago I rode it at least 10 times.
@@RMBII91I rode it at least ten times on my 12th birthday
I must have ridden that thing 25 times over its lifespan. It really was ground breaking and an amazing experience!
Jaws was an exceptional attraction imo
Why did the ride make people thirsty? lol
I wondered that too
I wonder if it was the motion or actually the air conditioning filling that huge space. FanTASTic ride.
Maybe cause the wait time back in the day was like 3 hours long.
8:20 Heather makes me thirsty...

1. We need suggestions for the name of the third section of Defunctland! Head over to the Defunctland subreddit, or submit your suggestions below! www.reddit.com/r/Defunctland/
2. Yeah. I messed up the name of the era of the dinosaur theme. Apologies.
Hey thanks for the shoutout. Also you can do one about either the people mover or the back lot tour in disneyworld
As a Floridian I am so thrilled to see how many people are preserving amusement park history and this VR Defuctland sounds incredible.
Defunctland Name it Dark Ride Land
Defunctland you can do the Monsanto House of the future! Also your ideas for the VR park truly did grab my interest, if you want you should start up a IndieGogo account to help hire some animators and help polish some models
Defunctland you should do ET adventure in Universal Studios Hollywood.
Add water fountains? Surprised they didn't yank out the 1 water fountain that was there, from the beginning, and open a cold drink empire at the end of that ride!
They could have even themed it after the malt shop scene from the second movie! Wasted opportunity for easy sales, there.
BTTF is my brother's favorite movie, when we visited Universal back in 2001 we rode this ride over and over and over again. Fantastic ride and my whole family misses it more than any other defunct attraction.
The subtitles crack me up. “No one reacted this way” under a room laughing at one of Bif’s corny joke lol
Lotadfrom6gen hoi Reverse psychology does not work on me so I'm going to ignore it.
Also, love the idea.
Defunctland Pretzels will most definitely be in the pretzel ride land
like Doc's fried chicken at universal
THEremiXFACTOR Isn't that kind of like cletuses chicken shack though?
Defunctland should do mcdonalds from Disney when they used to have a contract
Wait I can’t tell if he’s joking or not...why did the ride make people thirsty? Is there any actual science behind that?
The book from which that anecdote comes says that a doctor consulted about concerns about motion-sickness said that jerking motions make people thirsty. Shrug emoji.
I think he meant "sexually thirsty."
@@nerychristian fummy.
Huge missed opportunity there, while that caused thirst problems they could’ve sold ice cold perfect Pepsi’s on the way out
Fun Fact: Both the Delorean and Locomotive are in fact still on display in Orlando!
Can confirm this 3 weeks later!
I had my first ever panic attack on this ride. Still very nostalgic for me.
I was gonna sleep but fuck no Kevin the god himself posted a video
Awesome video. BTTF: The Ride was always my favorite ride at Universal Studios
"I want to get a virtual experience of all of the rides that covered culture in theme parks in the 80's and 90's." Seems like I've heard something like this before. Is your real name James Halliday?
Defunctland VR sounds AWESOME! I'd totally pay admission fees to experience a VR theme park!
9:30 "Crustaceous period"- when Earth was overrun by giant crabs. Kek
They're still there (for now).
I rode this in January of 1998 when my dad and soon to be step mom, my brother and soon to be step sister and step brother went to Disney World for vacation. The BTTF ride was a major highlight of the trip for me! I was 12 ❤
I myself love Kevin's voice and the affection of it has gotten better
The Simpsons Ride makes me sad and feels like a ghost of Back to the Future...
Brianna Hanover I know right? When I heard the announcement back in 2006 and they shut it down anyway in 2007 I so devastated when I heard about the Simpsons taking over I've ridden the Simpsons one and don't want to ride it again I love back to the future way better
Andrew Fontanez j
Andrew Fontanez the Simpson ride is cool but I am sad that they took it off
Brianna Hanover Him mentioning The Simpsons Ride makes me worried that this video is gonna get a content ID from Fox.
Keep it up!
You could cover old Knott's Berry Farm attractions including: The Haunted Shack, Kingdom of the Dinosaurs, Knott's Beary Tales, Wacky Soap Box Racers.
Me too!
What about Windjammer Surf Racer
Oh my god, PLEASE do Kingdom of the Dinosaurs!!! I wanted so badly to make out with my boyfriend on it but it closed before I started dated 😂
Hey, and...idea, he could do one longer video on both Knott's Bear-y Tales and Kingdom of the Dinosaurs, seeing as they were in the same building. ^^;
Uh, guys? Perilous Plunge!
I worked on the ride in Hollywood. I remember that story; all of us would tell it to eachother.
0:20 It didn't matter if your voice was low or high as long as you make a good story out of this video.
It seems to me that Universal Studios California likes to update everything every five or ten years. I went there in 1986, 1994, and in 2005. There was very little that was the same from one visit to the next. I guess they like to keep up with the changing franchises, but I also think they have deal with limited space since it is also a functional studio.
Can u do Nickelodeon studio ??!!!!
Nickelodeon Studios was at Universal Studios Florida. This channel seems to cover Disney and Universal among others. Soooooo...not sure at all where you're coming from.
i can't remember what it is now but i was slimmed at universal orlando in the 90's
I know that as of 2012 the wrestling company TNA used the soundstage from Double Dare, and Clarissa Explains it all to film their show, TNA iMpact! I only know this because I lived like 1/2 mile from Universal City Walk. I do not know if they are currently using the stage for anything
In the late 90s, I too lived about a 1/2 mile from Universal :)
Awesome
My dad worked for Universal Studios Hollywood as a software engineer and one summer while out of high school I got to ride into work with him and spend all day in the park during the week days. I've ridden Back to the Future at least 200 times. To this day it's still my favorite ride. Loved it! My theory on why it made people thirsty is that there was some mist effect at the end of the ride, which I suspect was made using propylene glycol, the same stuff that's used to create that mist effect at concerts (and vape). Some people get a dry throat from that, but it never bothered me.
Out of all rides from various theme parks, the Back to the Future ride was one of the best!!! ❤️
Your voice sounds the best like this
Vincent Cummings It's only got better. He even sounds weird here.
needs a pop filter
He's still pitched it down a bit. I'm guessing he dislikes the sound of his own voice and wants to sound more manly or some crap. His voice is probably fine and this just highlights his insecurity... but whaddayagonnado?
The train and car are still in the Studios (Orlando) - the car is next to the taco truck in Springfield, and the train is somewhere around New York....for some reason.
rooster5man I saw the train in Kidzone not New York but I didn't see the car anywhere in Springfield especially near the taco truck
I've seen both the last time I went two weeks ago.
I just remember the ride beating the crap out of my back
Recently discovered this channel, absolutely love it! Thank you for creating a little piece of brilliance on the internet!
Can you do the original Journey Into Imagination
Lily B Yeah that channel being Bright Sun Films.
Tavon Fenwick I just mentioned that because there might not be anything new to say.
Just did 2 months ago
The displays are still there as of November 2017. Btw great idea for the VR DefunctLand. If Planet Coaster ever becomes more advanced I would suggest building it through there or No Limits 2.
I’ve only been to Universal Studios once, but this was my favorite ride...Good things never last.
I remember going on this ride back in 2003, I found it kinda strange that the narrator sounded a lot like Hacker from Cyberchase, but that when I was a kid, and it was before I learned that they were played by the same actor.
Went on this in 94' in Florida, thought it was amazeballs!
Summer 2000 here! Yes, it _was_ amazeballs!
if it's going to be VR, do an action park themed area where ragdolls are continously thrown off extremely dangerous rides and dismembered, take inspiration from Stair Dismount and similar games.
Missnewbienoob I H8 DOC I LUV MARTY!! XD
Nice vid!!! You should do Rocket Rods from the failed Tomorrowland at Disneyland.
Not sure if it was intentional or coincidental, but you even got this uploaded on Michael J Fox's birthday! :D
You should attempt to revive The Peoplemover and Rocket Rods from Disneyland, love your vids!
MovieDean123 yes, the peoplemover!! Need a way to transport people around Defunctland.
MovieDean123 Bright Sun Films already covered it.
Dang we've got the people mover down here in Florida. Love that ride/mover. Great thing to go to whenever everything else has long waits.
MovieDean123 wait is he actually trying to make a theme park or is it like a joke?
Please tackle "The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera"
Rad vid! I remember going on back to the future ride as a kid it was Amazing!! The simpsons ride is ok Bring back Back to the Future! Great Scott!
This was my favorite ride ever. I miss it so much.
this came up in my recommended as i’m on the middle of a Back to the Future phase yet again, but how amazing to see this right after Defunctland VR was announced! ahhh so cool
Yooo a VR Defunctland sounds so cool!!
A VR theme park of rides you can no longer ride sounds like a genuinely brilliant idea. Smart man
Excellent video and what a superb ride.
You don't just walk into a theme park, a-and ride a DeLorean!
Can’t believe so many ppl were crappy about your magnificent voice! .. Love your videos!
I haven't read 1.1k posts, so this may have already been said, but as of June 2018, the BTTF locomotive outside the Simpsons ride in Universal Orlando has now been removed and the strip of land between the Simpsons ride and the lake is a construction site.
