Britney in Chains.
hahahahahahaha
😂 is that what her conservatorship was 😂
Alice in Brittney
brilliant!!
That would of been hot 15 yea4s ago.
No joke, this would be one of the best post-Layne AIC songs.
A close 2nd,... to his AIC cover of 'I Want it That Way' by the Backstreet Boya ;) , if you've not seen this one yet, it's a must-see to be believed, it's amazingly cool too. ua-cam.com/video/BBJks0OgU2U/v-deo.htmlsi=K4Err_G3niN53ve8
Yet it's being discarded as mere memes smh
Oh, this would 10,000% be a Devil Put Dinos track!!
So glad someone said “post-Layne”. Would be a great track for that era of Chains, but would be a B side in the early days
'Post-Layne' is a very important distinction. This is definitely not prime AIC
This is literally up to the standards of an Alice In Chains song. If I was told this was one of their songs, I'd believe it. Amazing.
Me too! I love this. Dude, imma be cranking this for a while. No joke.
Have you heard his version of Alice in Chains covering I Want It That Way? IMO That's the best one.
I have had this in my head for 2 days now. Lol.
didnt realize britneys life was this hard. LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!!!
up to the standards of a post-layne Alice In Chains song
I cannot figure how an individual can recapture an essence like this.
I would never think of a Britney Spears and Alice in Chains mashup but here we are. This is genius!
Not grunge, but this toxic/deftones mashup always gets me straight vibin.
ua-cam.com/video/13wwndvI1K4/v-deo.html
I suddenly have a lot more respect for whoever was writing her stuff back then, never felt this song had much going for it til I now hear it played like this.
Find Marshmallow's cover of Toxic and enjoy the ride😊
⛓️Brittney in Chains ⛓️
I suspect that happens often enough.@@denmill5564
You nailed the newer Chains sound.
the only thing I'm missing is a pitch shift mid song and the drummer going crazy which was a huge theme in Dirt.
Yep, Laney not here, but it's a banger
As a devoted practitioner of Alice in Chains for the last 30 years I'm absolutely blown away by this keep up your good work
I'm the 100th like. It just feels right.
Proof that a great song can be performed in just about any genre possible.
You're saying it was a great song before this cover?
@@moto-fl3rd Uh yeah! A great song is a great song. I'm not much of a fan of Spears, and feel most of her output was dreck, mostly because her work is usually taking a poor song and tarting it up for sizzle and the steak, so they aren't great. But Toxic is truly a great and clever song. I'll gladly die on that hill!
@@christianswain4884 ok, I never gave that song any thought other than thinking her voice sounded bad on that one.
If it’s done right I 100% agree
@@moto-fl3rd I thought the same thing 😆 Brittany Spears is nice to look at but her music ? Heck no.
But I prefer metal so I wouldn't be caught dead buying a Britney Spears CD at Amoeba anytime soon LOL
This legit sounds like a lost track from the self-titled album, amazing
With gunge chords, slowly heavy vocals, it completely changes the meaning of the song lol
Given how Staley died, it's too on the nose.
I hate the slowness
Gunge
@@CassiusBrophy Gotta love it when a typo or misnomer makes a totally new word that’s just plain fun to say. Gunge is my new favorite word.
@@IngusMalingus I played it sped up 10-20% and loved it
Sitting in a Toxic Chair...
This is fantastic. You NAILED the harmonies. All this is missing is a bit of Layne's trademark vibrato, without it, you're at a 9.9/10.
This was pretty clearly intended to sound like Duvall-era Alice. And he did indeed nail it perfectly.
That nagging feeling of something missing, while simultaneously still sounding perfect, shows that they picked the correct new (not replacement) vocalist for the job.
@@robertbird2477 That's a great way to put it - something missing, but it sounds perfect.
Duvall is excellent. He's brought something special to the group, and as a lifelong AIC fan, I'm glad they found him.
Sounds like something that would fit right in on their ‘95 self-titled album. Pairs pretty damn well with “Grind” (even the title sounds like an Alice in Chains song)
I've always thought some Britney's songs could be grunge as hell. Thx for this!
That's the bipolar disorder she has let's be honest with each other
Go Lauren to Local H do it... Really good cover
a static lullaby has the best version of toxic
@@jbinpo
This vid is FIRE , such good AIC vocals!!
What youbspeaketh of is absolutely TOXIC !
In My Toxic Opinion is the Britz Spear & DEFTONES remix ..its stupidy perfect
Check out Children of Bodom's cover of Oop, I Did It Again. Straight banger.
Bro I can't believe HOW GOOD these lyrics fit with Alice!
Usually I think these types of remakes are corny but this is actually killer. Great job!
Brothers, this track is SICK…
I saw them headline at lollapalooza, and then post Lane Staley at the Roxy in Los Angeles.
Thank you for the Alice In Chains fix.
I can confidently say that these covers are the most accurate "If Alice In Chains wrote [song]" I've ever seen on UA-cam. This one in particular just oozes inspiration from songs like "Hollow" and "Check My Brain"
I find the problem with this is that it never lets up. The best AIC songs have heavy and light(er) moments. With a verse/pre-chorus/chorus structure, one of those should be let up to emphasize the impact of the others... and to make the song sound like it wasn't just the same thing all the way through. It doesn't have to be a contrast as large as, say, "Angry Chair" or "Would?", but just SOMETHING. A missed opportunity, in my opinion, given that they're solid on the sound that they're going for.
This guy is the dollar store version of Moonic...
@@calmbbaer needs a few
" mmmmmm" and "yeeeeaaaaahhhh" I think as well
I was also reminded of Check My Brain!
@@bensolo7217 it's Duvall-era Alice. Not that William doesn't have his own "Yeahs", but you're likely looking for Layne's trademark. The band not trying to replace Layne, but rather taking their sound in a slightly different direction, is what has allowed them to continue. By not finding a soundalike fill-in, Layne is still present through his absence, if that makes any sense.
Dude, I never want Chains-uary to end!
Haha thanks! I’m Sure I’ll crank a few more out this year :)
@@stevewelsh__ please do
I hope Chains-uary also includes February
@@Blayze1017I was thinking the same thing, lol!
@@Blayze1017 Yeah, great thinking! 🤘😝🤘
That was killer. For a minute, I had that feeling I used to get. Thanks
ive never heard someone nail alice in chains tone and musical mannerism like this before its like im listening a new song off of their first 3 albums
Goes to show how cool 'Toxic' really is. Great cover!
Fuck yeah 🤘
He could just be singing 'doo wop, doo wop' on repeat, and in this style, it would probably still sound great.
Has Jerry and the rest seen your covers? Id love to hear what they have to say.
I'm just so impressed with how accurately you can reproduce AiC's sound. This sounds like it could be Duvall-era AiC, straight off Black Gives Way to Blue.
I think you're right about Duvall. The cover art from The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here flashes on the screen about 5 seconds in
It sounds a bit like Stone and Hollow IMHO
I honestly have no idea, but I would also love to hear what he thinks too! I hope he’d get a laugh out of it all 🤘🏻😎
@@stevewelsh__ I'm actually amazed at how well Toxic translates to AiC's sound. It's subject matter certainly fits, like a less-intense version/interpretation of Love, Hate, Love.
@@pickyyeeter Totally missed that, but I was going on the riffage, guitar tone, vocal tone, harmonies, and style. Vocally, he's clearly going for Duvall, and the guitar tuning is clearly DGCFAD rather than Eb etc. Very clearly new AiC.
Clearly, I use the word "clearly" a lot in this comment.
I love how alice in chains Besides being in the grunge movement, they actually had their very own sound
This is honestly incredible. You nailed down every aspect of the newer AIC sound. Well done!
Holy hell. This is INCREDIBLE. Someone please contact Jerry, please. This is above and beyond. 🤘
"You're toxic, I'm slippin' under / with a taste of a poison paradise / I'm addicted to you."
Ah yes, a certified Alice in Chains quote.
(I like a lot how you give that tripod-album-vibe to this song. Great cover!)
Completely changes to meaning of the song to heroin addiction
@@michaelb7862 Doing an Uno Reverso on the Johnny Cash Hurt cover
Something Layne would totally write
Yea its kinda spooky.
This is from The Devil Put Britney Here album
Love the subtlety of not forcing an actual note-for-note cover but adapting to the group's melodic colour and note range! Very smart :)
Holy shit dude. This is rad, I don't even care that it's a cover, it's just flat out f**king awesome.
I hear these lyrics done this way and I'm like "Man, this totally could have been an Alice In Chains song back in the day." Damn fine work as always Steve!
This should win a Grammy.
It should win a Razzy
Apparently. no one can win a metal Grammy until Metallica finally retires.
Two of my favorites finally in one.
I’d swear this was a hidden track from the self titled album…..amazing
I'm happy that my favorite band keeps releasing new songs... Exactly the way I liked them in the 90s...
This one and the backstreet boys one goes hard af ...there's something dark about the 2000's pop genre that fit so well with AiC Style. Awesome work ! loving all of the "if Alice in Chains..." videos!
You are right, but not only early 2000s, I feel people sleep on just how dark and foreboding a lot of pop songs can be once you strip down the bright production. Songs like Total Eclipse of the Heart, True Colors, Summer breeze, Maneater, Spice Up Your Life, and a bunch of others. Even the lyrics sometimes are supposed to be positive, but if they were over a heavy and dark sound could easily be interpreted as menacing.
Foreeever is gonna start tonight!!
(You are gonna die)
Yeah. All of his covers in the AIC style have been great, but the "I Want It That Way" cover is still my favorite. Although his Soundgarden version of "Would?" keeps getting stuck in my head too.
Globally, the poppier the song, the more likely it's about sex, drugs, death, or other dark af stuff. This is a personal observation from decades...nothing official 😅. One of my favorite japanese rock bands, has many pop-style sings that about death
These songs go hard on dark chord progressions that is why they work well as AIC songs.
@@mutee333 Yeah this song in particular leans right into the flat second, which is the darkest of all.
I entered here to watch the first 30 seconds but I'm halfway between and I'm not leaving here 'till the end.
William would kill this cover. Good to see someone paying homage to the later chapters of Alice in Chains. So much good stuff in those three albums. Layne purists are missing out on so much if they avoid modern Alice in Chains. We are blessed to have both eras to listen to
Totally love it. Kind of devil put dinosaurs here (album) vibes
Oh you said that tin the end haha
Agreed
I thought that too. It sounds like one of their new songs they recorded with William.
Dude i fucking love your covers too much
If Britney sounded like this I wouldn't have ignored her all these years
With AIC, the song wouldn't be a metaphor. RIP Layne and Mike.
One of her greatest songs and one of the greatest bands performing it. Could never imagine it. Dude you are amazing.
Dude, this is INSANELY GOOD! Amazing job!!
I usually hate vids like this but I gotta say, you nailed it. Those vocals are spot on and great rhythm. I think Alice would have thrown a couple more licks in there though.
Love the "check my brain" vibes with the pulls and bends on the hook/verse guitar man. Sounds just like something they would do.
Would do ? They have done
It's impressive how your reinterpretations sound as if they were new songs released by the band. Your work is impressive and has visible passion. I am truly grateful for your work my friend.
Thank you for watching mate!
This.... is the best cross over. Seriously... that I have ever found. Masterpiece. Puts Brittney to shame. Sorry baby. You got nothing on AiC.
*_Just when I thought original Toxic versión couldn't be ever improoved_*
Man, the way you put together the vocal layers emulates the insane AIC vocals and feel!!!! Like this is a new AIC release!!!!!!
EXCELLENT JOB!!!!
Fantastic work, who would have thought...
Your AIC and Soundgarden projects are the ones i love most.
The spirit of the mighty, mythical Layne Cantrell has possessed this man!
Dude, I can't honestly believe how much of a banger this is!! Good work!!
Heard some "Lesson Learned" and "Hollow" kinda vibe in this one
Dude, your Duvall is crazy good! Made me appreciate his voice even more, maybe I should go back and give his albums another chance.
listen to them again and also check out Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, one of William's side projects and imo some of his best vocals ever
Cheers legend! He really brings his own flavour to AiC and is def underrated IMO!
The guitar center version of no excuses is great. I almost like it better than the original 🫢
Looking In View slaps so hard. Duvall is great, rocks out hard live but is totally humble and doesn’t try to be Layne
@@TorSagen better than the original, with Layne, LOL, yeah no.
I hear "Sorry Britney, this is THEIR song now" in my brain
As a massive AIC fan and believer that the last post Layne albums have been incredible, dude you nailed it. The way the chorus chords work are insane good 😂 You even nailed the way Jerry and William are harmonizing now days.
its nice to see post layne AiC's sound getting more love
Damn!! That would've likely been a huge hit for AIC! Excellent cover!
Fantastic!!! I can't stop listening!!! Wonderful job!!!
Dude! Seriously amazing. Great stuff, please keep it up!
Blown away once again 😭 I live in Seattle and we all celebrate Layne on his birthday every year in August at a tribute show. You gotta get out here one of the years and hop up on the stage. You have absolutely mastered his sound ❤
You really captured their style
I could’ve easily believed this was a lost track!!! Awesome job!!!! Layne would be proud!!
Holy hell, I wasn’t ready for this…it’s absolutely incredible 🤯, I’m out of words! 🖤 The lyrics suprisingly fit the whole piece so good, as if this track was composed (and waiting) for such arrangement - which gave it a completely different, deeper meaning. I bet if Alice in Chains had it in their discography, it would be one of their top songs. And I hope they will find this masterpiece👌.
Chepau bas, man. As an absolute fan of Alice in Chains music, I cannot stop listening to this! And I'm really impressed with how you could capture the atmosphere of the specific psychedelic and heavy sound, while giving a tint of your own to it at the same time.
I wish you to be really noticed and appreciated for what you create, It deserves much more attention, definitely 🤘
On paper, one would think that this would never work....but low and behold, you knocked it outta the park! Outstanding job, Steve. Keep em coming! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
How the heck do you nail such specific guitar tones so well? The moment I heard that first bend, my first thought was this could easily have been on The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here.
Cheers! I research what Amps they used and try my best to replicate it. This mix was a real nightmare but I had to pull the trigger and just get it done so I’m glad it sounds good to you!
l@@stevewelsh__ Man that lead guitar tone is nuts, really does sound like The DPDH album, love the solo part as well. I tell you as a fellow AiC enjoyer: you've done such a great job! (I know you know it, but still)
Well done. And the chapter names are hilarious! 😆 I HAVE added this to my AIC playlist!
All the words have already been said in these comments. Great vocal tracking/harmonizing. Great riffs. Great song/lyric choices for an AiC song. Amazing work, folks!
Nooooooo! Please don't stop Chains-uary! You need to make a cover albums worth of AIC covers, you're too good at it, and I think this one maybe my favorite. I totally got TDPDH vibes from this, and out of all their DuVall era albums, that's my favorite. Dude, you really have a gift, please continue with the AIC covers.
This is badass. Good job Steve. AIC is my favorite band. Sounds like an AIC original.
No idea how/why this popped up on my feed, but I'm extremely happy that it did. Amazing work!
I thought this was going to be an AI generated mashup. Pleasantly surprised. Honestly, a great job!
It's cool that you did it in the Dinosaurs album style. Even if it's post-Layne AiC, it still sounds amazing. And don't get me wrong, post-Layne AiC still rocks as well.
Absolutely brilliant 🎶🎶🎶
It’s amazing how the lyrics fit Layne’s persona so perfectly. You could actually imagine him writing them ❤️
Dude you nail the vive!!!! and the vocals are so spot on! Has a heavy Black Gives Way to Blue vive to it. Impressive!
I just found this channel and I can't believe how talented this guy is. Not only nailing the style but rewriting the musical score to fit. Insane! Great work buddy.
This is your absolute best Alice in Chains rewrite. It flows so naturally, you're a real talent!
My goodness, this is incredible. It's like you're completely in tune with the sound and spirit of Alice In Chains.
Sounds awesome! Great job 👌
Ive literally just stumbled on your channel - 4 songs in and I am impressed with every single one! Talented one aren't ya 🙌🏻
Feeling lots of influence from A Looking in View and Hollow. Love the heaviness, really great cover!
you should do if korn wrote hit me baby one more time by britney spears
I would actually listen to this regularly if this was the real version. Well done
Just stumbled onto this. EXCELLENT work!!
Listening to this just made me fall in love with Alice in Chains all over again! From one musician to another, well done!
Upset that Steve didn't wear a Britney costume but we can't have everything 😂
But he does wear it on his OnlyFans
@@Chadner 🤫
@@Chadner Damn it! I spent all my cash on Kim Jong Un's onlyfans.
Man, this sounds REALLY great, congrats and thanks!!!
You captured the spirit of AIC and Layne Staley perfectly!
Great cover, the Grind inspiration is on point with that song somehow. GJ!
Incredible as always! You are the best!
This version sounds like it’s about a toxic friendship rather than a toxic relationship. Or about drugs.
I can't get enuff of this! This is just so damn good! We'll done sir!
Another Banger Steve, if Brittany did a mash up with Alice, this would be it. But nice harmonies, you nailed the Alice vibe!! I love the bridge riff and break too!
This is amazing. Now take all of your Chain-uary songs and do MTV Unplugged versions of them. If you wait till May it could be called “MayTV Unplugged”
Awesome job! Reminds me how much I love Alice In Chains. Their sound is just so distinct and undeniable.
Absolutely phenomenal !!
Alright…. You’re just fucking with us now….. 😂 AWESOME JOB! 🤘🏻 🤘🏻
This is legitimately one of the best songs I’ve ever heard.
You need to expand your horizons 😂 This is terrible.
@@motleydude73 All the other comments on here would suggest yours is pretty redundant.
@@temseti Umm no it's an awful pop song made even worse by sounding like a terrible grunge band. I'm entitled to an opinion as much as anyone else so that makes it valid. Cheers.
@@motleydude73I listen to a wide range of genres, but only some bands and songs I like from each, even pop occasionally. This cover turned out to be awesome, and it’s not hard to be great with today’s awful music environment.
Outrageously good. Soooo well done, cheers!
Brilliant! I could have been listening to this in 1995 in my college dorm room.
how does your brain come up with these genius concepts. such a banger too. I definitely hear some "Red Giant" vibes in this and I'm surprised at how well it works with Toxic
