Yeah. Ive played that back in my mind. But when you really see that the most is just being around them when you get the chance to just talk to them. Then you find out. Hey. They are just normal people as well.

Ask a question that stumps the interviewers, something about where do you see the company in the next 10 years and where would you see me in it. By asking this I normally lead with some knowledge about the company’s growth and then ask what’s next. I had 9 interviews last week and was invited to 7 final interviews 3 days later. After that I just let them know about all my final interviews and let them sell the company to me

A couple of weeks ago I sent in my application form for a part time teaching job at a theatre school for young children. I’ve shortlisted for the interview, and the employer seems very interested. My interview is in two days, and I feel sick. Seeing a lot of good advice on this video and the comments. Thank you :) UPDATE: I GOT THE JOB!!
@@andycandy5704 A good mentality to have, as long as you can avoid coming off as entitled or arrogant, is to ask questions about the business as well, almost as if you are asking the interviewer why you should work for them. It sounds strange but not being a submissive stress case and bringing a professional presence is important, because it leaves the impression on both the interviewer and yourself that they should be happy to hire you. Its good for self confidence and self esteem as well :)
I've got my first interview tomorrow at a country club. After sending in multiple applications to multiple companies I finally landed an interview! UPDATE!!! I got the job! I start training tomorrow 😁
I did a job interview once where all the questions were tell me about a negative situational time. Like they just wanted to know all the worst things I've done in my past work experience. I knew they were testing me to pretty much eliminate myself from consideration. I was able to sway those into positive learning experiences but I didn't get the job. I felt some tension from the interviewer from the beginning I knew he didn't like me from the beginning and I showed up dressed real nice. Sometimes it's not you but the interview and their personal expectations not necessarily the company's. Stay positive and keep trying.
For those who get nervous in interviews consider this : if you’re prepared there is no reason to be nervous ….as mentioned in the video if you have real examples you can adjust those to answer any question…one way is to make the question fit your answer this takes practice and preparation but the more you do it the more comfortable you will become and interviews will be second nature. The nerves come from being unprepared
Nerves come from a lot of different things, not just being unprepared. Anxiety disorders, such as social anxiety, can be a huge factor, prepared or not.
A really good format to follow for behavioral questions is the STAR method. Situation, task, actions, and results. Focus the answer mostly on the action and result part and quantify the results if possible. This is a really great tip I got from an HR manager at Emerson!! 👍🏻👍🏻
STAR is also a good way to pace yourself and reduce nerves. You have a nice set of steps to work through in order and this can reduce the panic you might feel when asked questions.
I recently got hired for a seasonal position at a local retail store, and I was prepared for pretty much anything. I was dressed properly, although I accidentally out-dressed the hiring manager, but she didn't mind at all. I had about 3 years of retail experience, and I was just myself. The biggest piece of advice that I learned is that even before the interview starts, just think to yourself "This job is already mine." Great video!
Thank you ❤ Just over two weeks ago, I had my very first job interview! I had no idea what to expect so I came to UA-cam days before in preparation and this is one of the videos I took notes on. I felt well prepared and my interview went great! I've just been informed that I got the job! 💃✨ At the moment, we're on a nationwide lockdown so I'll start my new job once we're not self isolating anymore. Hope you are all safe and healthy 🌻
One thing I learned during my time in sales is to master small talk! I believe this applies to any formal meeting, like interviews. The first 30 seconds in a room are key to build that "likeability factor" and this is where small talk counts. Still, keep in mind, that it's probably best to follow the vibe of your audience. Sometimes, the other person may not be a fan of small talk and want to jump right into business. However, 9 times out 10 I have noticed you will have back and forth with small talk with most people to "lighten the mood". Topics could be simply like: weather, are you ready for the holidays, even take notice of things hanging on the wall like a trophy or picture of fishing and ask questions about that.
Hello, Thomas - I'm a Director of a Career Services office at a community college. I'm so happy to hear you emphasize, frequently, how you benefited from the programs and services that were provided by your college's Career Services office. We're a 100% commuter school, so it's always a huge challenge to engage students in anything beyond attending classes. Testimonials, like yours, are a huge help, so thank you. On another note, your tips are always spot-on with regard to resumes, interviews, job fairs, etc. Keep up the great work!
Berto no I didn't, but the position ended up disappearing completely thanks to covid, so I'm glad I didn't quit my current job for that one just to end up unemployed😅 they did love me though, they just said I was too young, so this video seems to have worked🤷♀️
Honestly can't believe the coincidence of this video - just got offered my first job interview ever and am having it this Thursday! Will definitely be using these tips and hope for the best! 😊
Regarding what you are saying at 2:10 I recently read a story somewhere on Reddit, that a guy got invited to a job interview and before walking into the office, he'd be talking to an old friend he just met outside the office. Turns out that friend is the manager of the office and the old friend was talking about all the cool stuff the company has to offer. He got hired.
okay so my plan is, make a ton of friends that are promising people so that in a few years when im practically homeless i am prepared for the interviews.
Here a couple additional things you might find helpful (since I have to cut my scripts for time): - I got my suit at Suit Supply. I did a ton of research beforehand and the internet basically told me they were the best option within my budget, which was around $500. If your budget is less than that, I'd recommend checking department stores (like JCPenny or Macy's in the US), as they're probably going to have the best quality stuff at $150-$200. FIT MATTERS, so find a tailor and spend $15 or $20 more to have the pants hemmed, the jacket taken in, etc. Alterations usually aren't expensive. - If you don't have access to a career center for practice interviews, get practice however you can. Lots of the scholarships I applied to in college had interview components, and sometimes I'd even apply for those vanity honor societies just for the interview practice.
Motivation is not a problem, the problem is that I don't understand what I am studying: Shareholders elect the board of directors which ultimately selects the management team the management team runs the day to day operations of the company Stock is a major financing source for public companies. This is often referred to as a residual claim: Common stock’s ownership claim on the assets and cash flow of a company.
I'm just about to go into an interview for an office job after over a year of retail work. I'm somewhere between being nervous and excited for the opportunity, but this video really helped me tip more towards the "excited" end of the spectrum. I'll definitely take your advice on taking a notebook (I always carry one to jot down notes anyway, I'll just take the one I have already out of my purse), but the rest, I hope I have covered already... I just needed it said out loud. (Honestly I thought the thank you note might be a bit overkill, but now you got me thinking that it's a great refresher for a person who probably heard way too many verbal thank yous that day.) Thank you for this, I feel a little less anxious now!
I've been watching your videos since I was in my freshman year in university and always dreamt for the moment to use this video for real. I can't believe I have my first job interview tomorrow!! Thank you Tom
Just got the job offer! Thank you for your help! I’m going back and thanking all UA-camrs who have assisted with these interview tips. Seriously, thank you from me an my family.
I once had an interview where I was waiting in the waiting room with three other candidates, (our interview was described as a group interview) and someone had dropped something while carrying a bag out of one of the offices. I went over to help pick up their things and he had told me that’s so kind of you. I said of course it’s no problem at all, and they asked me what I was waiting on and I let them know I was waiting for an interview to start. And they told me I think you’ll get it and he looked behind him and the manager was one of the candidates sitting with all of us in the waiting room. He said he likes to see what everyone does while in the waiting room to get gather info on personality traits. I ended up getting the job.
You are truly a blessing for people who aren't surrounded by successful people and don't really know what to expect in the future or know how to gain knowledge on how to do well in this life. I feel that you definitely deserve all the blessings man, really appreciate all of your videos!
This is the best video covering everything that needs to be said.Recruiters say the same and remember the correct hand gestures.Charming presenter too.
One "job" you might be interviewing for is a "first date". On one first date I had I felt that I had monopolized the conversation, so I followed up with a letter -- yes a letter because this was 1984. This letter caused there to be a second date, a second chance to spend time with this man. Fast forward 3 months and he proposed to me. We were married within a year and spent 32 wonderful years together before he died. I still miss him and it's been 2 years. But, I think that letter made the difference for me.
The whole interview process should be like the two way conversation process of knowing each other and shouldn’t be overwhelming especially for experienced candidates and especially in this day and age. I have 10 years solid experience in my field and just a year and half before I was looking for new work and I was kind of shocked to see how companies still ask silly questions to a person who is already experienced and I had feeling that companies over screen the candidates unnecessarily. The candidate who aces the interview process does not really mean he/she will turn out to be the employee the employer was looking for and vice versa.
Learning the basics about interviews & remembering to be your self is a start, but the best way to get better & even good at it is to go on alot of them. Go on the one's you like the least first. It'll take the edge off & you might find you like it more than you thought. These days anyone rarely gets hired on the spot, so that while your waiting for response your engaged in more interviews. Having more possible options puts you a lil more at ease with every next one. You develope a rhythm like athlete's do. One at bat doesn't define you. One missed basket doesn't define you either or a dropped pass. It's better to think of it as a game than a must win for your livelihood. We too often find ourselves trying to impress for something, whether it's personal or professional. Trying to impress almost always comes off as contrived & that looks desperate. As kids we spend alot of our time with games because it's fun. We all know how to play games & interviews are just another version of a game. What ever job you wind up with, your hopes are that you enjoy it. Enjoying starts with you,. Start before you even have the job at the interview. If you get the job, you can add your joy to it. That's how team sports find chemistry.
Humans are nothing but robots.... ya I said it. Everyone expects for someone to say or do the same thing over and over again, let's use the movie called the Hunger Games as an example. Were all basically fighting for the same thing. Food, Housing, Love but it's all a gamble in this society because in the end the one with better skills, better cloths, better looks, etc. mostly are the ones making it, leaving the rest in the dust. So there is no dream job, there's only a dream career because the places you truly want to work for can turn you down at any instant. But a career it not just any job it's what your good at doing. It's always a say this do this but they also look at nervousness like their just pushing you not to get the job or already have in the back of their mind it's a no for me, so it's more of a gamble than opportunity. If your not good at something or have ever worked your way up long enough then your just basically being a robotic act for those people who look past what you have to say and go for the other guy who dresses nicer, already been in the money game, etc. They never look past what the company says is a right fit, someone could be a hard worker, loves working with others and a team and that's still not great enough..... because they want to all hear what the company or everyone else wants them to hear and that's so sad !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video. Despite not doing research yet I feel so much better on right mind sent for job interviews. My favourite point you made was num 9: seeing the interview for what it is? A conversation
Hey guys, he's joking, if you do that most hiring managers will not even consider you for hire anymore even if you did exceptionally well the rest of the interview.
After 7 months of unemployment and i finally got a interview, and it would basically be my real first job...Thanks for this video and the tips, interview is next week and i really really really need this job.
Wow this was spot on! I’m in a cosmetology career tech class and I signed up for the job interview for my class. I never did a real job interview before so I will take all of this into consideration:)
IV learned a few things too over the years 1st one is apply for jobs that are desperate for workers they will hire you almost 100% of the time. 2nd all ways apply for a job only on a monday or friday
I'm about to graduate college this spring, currently working at a county jail. I'm glad I have work experience here because I am definitely setup for success on behavioral questions.
The most important thing that should be on everyone mind currently should be to invest in different sources of income that doesn't depend on the government. Especially with the current economic crisis around the word. This is still a good time to invest in various stocks, Gold, silver and digital currencies.
I agree with you and I believe that the secret to financial stability is having the right investment ideas to enable you earn more money, I don’t know who agrees with me but either way I recommend either real estate or stocks.
@@macherie9554 That won't bother you if you trade with a professional like *Mr Gary Mason Brooks* my coach, you may have come across him on interviews relating to trading. He trades, manage trading account and offer mentorship program for clients who wish to become professional investors.

Hi Thomas! Awesome video :) Once I was dressed in a formal gray suit for an interview and the recruiter gave me negative feedback about my clothes. She told me that when researching for a company, always check the dress code in the workplace. If formal, dress in a suit, if not dress 'normal'. It was a startup company, everyone was wearing shorts and t-shirts. When I walked in the office fully clothed, everybody thought I was an investor or someone's dad. DRESS PROPERLY, PEOPLE!
I've always been given the advice to dress better for the interview than you expect to on the job That person you interviewed with might have just taken it personally, and I don't think they gave good advice across the board (at least dress a little nicer than the job's expected dress code).
Soliloquy I wish you the very best! We hate interviews too! The fear will decrease once you focus on the fact that you have something valuable that they need.
Unboxing Jobs thank you for your thoughtful comment :) it didn’t go as well as I had hoped! Let’s see the outcome though I am not holding my breath. I have another interview coming up in a couple of days. 😥
Soliloquy you never know... It sure is a roller coaster ride & I hate the whole interview process. Just released a video that will hopefully help or at least make you laugh.
Honey Layla hello Honey! I bombed the first one but I used what I learnt to do the second one properly. I got the job 🎉 I wish you all the best! They only see you for maximum an hour so give it your best and rely on your strengths to ace it!!
To the "do your research" portion, that also means knowing the jobs core functions. For example, if there is something within the requisition that they want experience with, even a surface level knowledge of it can be sufficient
For college, I once visited a graphic design company that is really big in my country. They told a little about themselves and how the company started. What really piqued my interest, is how they shared they were incredibly nervous when they received their first job interview. They really stressed it, and it made me realize that companies and job interviewers are people too. I never really thought of it like that! So just take a deep breath and it'll all be ok :)
@@captainkapalot9644 I never had an interview before. I feel like I'll do so bad if I have one. English is not my first language. What advice do you give me?
I know that's not very good advice, but it definitely worked out for me and loads of people in my field: if you're decent/good at many things, easily interested and excited, but not really special or insanely good at anything, pick a field that makes you highly desirable. I picked engineering - I enjoy it, and I also don't need to be absolutely above average to get really good opportunities. I went into my first job interview for a paid 6 month internship without even applying because my friend said "Hey, my boss really needs more interns, want to join?" - no extracurricular activities, no work experience apart from supervising students in the lab at uni (and she got the position immediately as well, without any connections. Sent in her application, got accepted before even showing up for the interview). At the interview, they started showing me around, introducing me to people and told me what the food is like. I've literally not done anything in my life but go to school and uni, I just chose a field that I would enjoy and also get a job in - as long as I survive it. And that's basically our motto in engineering: if you survive long enough to get your degree, you'll have nothing to worry about. Most importantly, grades don't matter - all of us are close to C's and D's on average, barely passing classes, on average studying 3-4 semesters longer than required, but considering only 9 out of 56 people are left in the course.. yeah, you have to make yourself desirable somehow.
ah thank you so much for this video! i was pleased to see i do more than half of these😂 i just wanted to ask if you could possibly do a video on networking basics, like what to know, what to do, etc?
Great tips!! This has given me some great ideas for my channel audience (recent and new grads getting into work industry) - a lot of the tips on UA-cam are for professionals not “newbies” ;) thanks and please keep the content coming!
I loved the tip to communicate with the people at the front dest and other employees. I'm preparing to interview for a supervisors position within my company and other supervisors have been telling me. Always prepare yourself and be your best self. There's a spotlight on you and you're always interviewing.
I have one today and I am guaranteed to fail at it. Because I was trying to prepare for the interview but my mother brought her relatives over to fix her unbroken bathroom which I needed to get ready for my interview. I worked so hard for this interview and my mother had the audacity to screw it up for me. But the good news was that I got the job afterwards and there was no interview.
This video its 11 minutes long, you've uploaded it 11 hours ago and it has 11k views so far and for some reason its aesthetically pleasing to me and i needed it to share it hah. Love your videos!
I remember going into my first interview for a retail position back in 2015 and was not prepared for behavioral questions so that tip is a BIGGIE for sure.
I have an interview tomorrow with a company that aligns with my career goals! You’d think I’d be a pro at interviewing by now lol. But here I am. You can never have too much knowledge though.
I am not 100% convinced sending a 'thank you' e-mail won't come up as desperate. I honestly would like to express my thanks to the person that devoted the time out of his/her day to have a conversation, but I am afraid there is no way to wrap it up nicely and avoid sending a wrong message. Any thoughts?
Yeah I too think sending a thank you note is a little much. l think the successful candidate should be chosen based on thier merit in accordance to the requirements of the post, not thier brown-nosing and pitiful desperation. I mean obviously the candidate should at least be nice to the interviewer and show that they are driven for the post but there should be a limit. The interviewer could at the end of the day just chose someone else and leave you never hearing from them again, it can be very embarrassing and depressing.
Super late reply now haha, but I think the best thing is to just thank them in person, before you leave the company. Kind of like: "It was nice talking to you. Thank you for your time, and for giving me this opportunity." *shakes hand*
Yeah, I agree. It seems really inappropriate to me. I know if I received an email like that I would be re-assessing my opinions of the candidate (negatively!). Perhaps it's more appropriate in the US workplace culture?
Based on how formal some of the tips are in this video I would assume that these are tips mainly focused toward full time business positions where it would be appropriate to send one. But if you are just applying for a part time job i would not send one it definitely seems desperate. I also would not wear a full suit to a part time job interview unless they dress nice there on a daily basis
I sent a thank you email to the person who interviewed me, and that email became the follow up conversation which led to me being offered the position - it also is just another way of ensuring that they remember your name amidst all the other people they are interviewing!
I’ve had 7 interviews in the last 2 months with no luck :( I dress professional, answer their questions confidently and without hesitation, I’m qualified and I am super polite but nothing..
Brenda Velazquez I was looking and interviewing notoriously for 4 months. I even started getting sick and anxious. Many no call backs, and no's and I became so desperate that I applied at target. There's nothing wrong with target, but I am past that type of work, but I couldn't find anything. Finally 4 months later I got hired and will be making double the amount I was making before. Keep the faith, it will come, and it'll be worth it. I dk if you believe in prayer but speak to God about it or speak it into existence. Don't give up, we have to keep going if we want change. Even if we're tired, we keep pushing forward.

What if you get a behavioral interview question, but you don’t have past work experience? How do you answer that question without drawing attention to the fact that you lack work experience?
I'd say be honest that you don't have experience in those areas. However, you can follow that up with even though I have no experience in those areas this is how I would approach the situation if prompted with that situation. And then explain how you would deal with that situation.

I can tell this person doesn't have a anxiety problem.
Thank you.
It really works, but you do have to practice in advance to be able to confidently do it without screwing it up lol
I have an interview tomorrow
I'm super nervous lol first job interview ever wish me luck
How’d it go?
Did you get it ??
We never get updates /=
Literally_Lukey well i can give you one i was not selected on my first interview at mcdonalds and tomorrow is my second job interview

This is actually the best mindset tip - thanks for sharing
Thank you ❤
Just over two weeks ago, I had my very first job interview! I had no idea what to expect so I came to UA-cam days before in preparation and this is one of the videos I took notes on. I felt well prepared and my interview went great!
I've just been informed that I got the job! 💃✨
At the moment, we're on a nationwide lockdown so I'll start my new job once we're not self isolating anymore. Hope you are all safe and healthy 🌻
anyone else watching this 5 minutes before your actual interview?...
3-4 days prior 😂
Doing this night before rn
I have about 20 hours😂😂
An hour before 😅

I always ask them "what is the best way I can make your costumers satisfied/happy?" interviewers really like that one
Hi
I have my very first interview tomorrow. Pray for me y’all😭
Lol did you get it? Was it impacted by covid-19
Berto no I didn't, but the position ended up disappearing completely thanks to covid, so I'm glad I didn't quit my current job for that one just to end up unemployed😅 they did love me though, they just said I was too young, so this video seems to have worked🤷♀️
Update for anyone who cares: the same people ended up getting me another job, and a better one at that😅

Honestly can't believe the coincidence of this video - just got offered my first job interview ever and am having it this Thursday! Will definitely be using these tips and hope for the best! 😊
Regarding what you are saying at 2:10
I recently read a story somewhere on Reddit, that a guy got invited to a job interview and before walking into the office, he'd be talking to an old friend he just met outside the office.
Turns out that friend is the manager of the office and the old friend was talking about all the cool stuff the company has to offer. He got hired.
That makes 0 sense. But thanks.
@@justmyopinion7269 lmO
okay so my plan is, make a ton of friends that are promising people so that in a few years when im practically homeless i am prepared for the interviews.
Here a couple additional things you might find helpful (since I have to cut my scripts for time):
- I got my suit at Suit Supply.
Pin this, bro!
Motivation is not a problem, the problem is that I don't understand what I am studying:
Shareholders elect the board of directors
which ultimately selects the management team
the management team runs the day to day operations of the company
Stock is a major financing source for public companies.
This is often referred to as a residual claim:
Common stock’s ownership claim on the assets and cash flow of a company.
And wherever you can, get practice sitting on the other side of the interview table.
You look like a movie star in that suit !
How can I ace someone like U ? 😊
(Honestly I thought the thank you note might be a bit overkill, but now you got me thinking that it's a great refresher for a person who probably heard way too many verbal thank yous that day.)
Thank you for this, I feel a little less anxious now!
I've been watching your videos since I was in my freshman year in university and always dreamt for the moment to use this video for real. I can't believe I have my first job interview tomorrow!! Thank you Tom

I have 4 interviews tomorrow, thanks for the tips.
I have an interview tomorrow and I’m a college student. Hopefully, these tips will help me out! Wish me luck!
No matter how much I feel like I am prepared for an Interview i always get so nervous! I have the rest of the day to practice lol thank you ! 🙏🏼❤️

Tip 11: Tell him you can belch the alphabet. Not only will you be hired, but you will also be promoted
This is the real killer tip right here

Thomas Frank You can pin it:))
Hey guys, he's joking, if you do that most hiring managers will not even consider you for hire anymore even if you did exceptionally well the rest of the interview.
If you can pull it off you will be promoted to customer
I have a job interview on Thursday now I’m here thank you for this I needed this today to prepare

"why do you want to work here?"
"because I need money to not end up on the street"
I'm about to graduate college this spring, currently working at a county jail. I'm glad I have work experience here because I am definitely setup for success on behavioral questions.

The most important thing that should be on everyone mind currently should be to invest in different sources of income that doesn't depend on the government. Especially with the current economic crisis around the word. This is still a good time to invest in various stocks, Gold, silver and digital currencies.
I agree with you and I believe that the secret to financial stability is having the right investment ideas to enable you earn more money, I don’t know who agrees with me but either way I recommend either real estate or stocks.
I keep wondering how people earn money in financial markets, i tried trading on my own made a huge loss and now I'm scared of investing more....

Hi Thomas! Awesome video :)
Once I was dressed in a formal gray suit for an interview and the recruiter gave me negative feedback about my clothes.
If Thomas interviewed me I would be pretty nervous....I wouldn't want to be interviewed by a model!

I wish you all the best! They only see you for maximum an hour so give it your best and rely on your strengths to ace it!!
To the "do your research" portion, that also means knowing the jobs core functions. For example, if there is something within the requisition that they want experience with, even a surface level knowledge of it can be sufficient
IA born, and when you don't get the job, smile cuzz it can be practice for the next interview. ☮️

Absolutely shitting myself got one tommorow, it's only my second job, tryna prepare 😳
It's crazy how similar this is to my current situation. I literally I have one tomorrow which happens to be my second job 💀

I remember going into my first interview for a retail position back in 2015 and was not prepared for behavioral questions so that tip is a BIGGIE for sure.
Research and practice definitely help with feeling much more comfortable during the interview.
Kind of like:
"It was nice talking to you.
I finally got my job interview now wish me luck guys!!!

What if you get a behavioral interview question, but you don’t have past work experience? How do you answer that question without drawing attention to the fact that you lack work experience?
S Grosso Just Be honest
I'd say be honest that you don't have experience in those areas. However, you can follow that up with even though I have no experience in those areas this is how I would approach the situation if prompted with that situation. And then explain how you would deal with that situation.
