Hey Jason, another great video, just wondered if you can help, I think the video covers remote shooting photos, rather than video. It seems on Sony website that AF is not an option when shooting video ! Which is a shame as I bought the camera so I could shoot my YT vids solo. Does that mean I can’t or can you think of a work around ?
Well it depends on what camera and what focus mode you are using. It's been a while since I used this program, but it worked last time I checked.. Did you try changing the focus mode to touch focus as apposed to touch tracking on the camera? I think that might be your issue, because I don't think tracking works from the app, and the camera is set to tracking by default when it comes to touch focus...
Hi, I have a sony ar7ii. I couldn't control my focus on my Imaging Edge app, even though I set up the focus mode as spot focus. The focus window just doesn't show on my screen. I also don't see the focus area button on the app. I don't see the "focus" section as it is shown in this video either. My camera firmware is up to date and I recently downloaded the app, so I assume it should be the latest version. I use Mac. Anyone has the same problem? Thanks.

Hi Rick, Do tot he size of the video files I don't think they can be copied over automatically. It's hard to say, because every camera works slightly different with this app... Yeah, you need to go into the remote shooting settings on the camera and change it to Original file type & Destination + Camera or Destination only... It's set to camera only be default sometimes...

Yes you can for sure. Just navigate to whatever drive you want and create the folder there. I use external drives for all my videos and it works the same as creating a folder on a local drive.
I want to view just the latest image taken and not the gallery of past images in the bottom row. How to disable this? Basically just want to see only the image full screen each time I take a shot. Thanks
When you take a photo it automatically opens up the Viewer... On the top right of the viewer screen are your view options... See at the 12:30 mark top right you have 3 view options for the viewer itself... I have the middle one selected, I'm guessing you have the left "grid view" selected?
Great video. Using your tips I successfully tethered an A7SII. I do have a problem though. All functions seem to work except focus. I can’t seem to get the correct combination of settings right. There is no focus box in the software next to the D-R area as in your video. I have flexible spot on screen in the camera. Any thoughts? The application isn’t of much use if I can’t control focus. Lens is the Sony/Zeiss 4/16-70. Thanks!
I'm not sure what your issue is, but I do know not all cameras have all functions available. Sony seams to have made it selective based on camera models with the newest units having the most features. Frustrating for sure! I don't have an A7S II on hand to play with either, sorry...

I like the tether feature VIEWER so I can check the focus of my photo. Can I use the viewer while using the actual camera to take the pictures instead of the remote?

Great video. Here's my issue. While shooting videos the remote software is using the camera's mic instead of my USB microphone. Is there anyone to tinker with the audio settings for the remote software?
You can record the audio separately to your computer and then sync the audio using video editing software. Other than that, you would need a mic plugged directly into the camera microphone port.
On my a6400 I get a loud hiss into the video if I use usb n external mic at the same time. The his disappears if I disconnect the usb and record or if I unplug the mic and use usb tethering. I have tried different wires and different mics like lav or blue yeti or zoom h6. Same problem. Any solution ???

I'm not sure what the issue is honestly. Are you using a Mac? Possible the latest Mac update hosed up the program. Do you have the latest version of the app?
the link you have given auto redirects to the creators cloud.. and the download button for imaging Edge Desktop in creators cloud then sends you back to the creators cloud page in a continuous loop... is there another download source (from Sony) that bypasses the annoying creators cloud?

1000$ question. I'm looking into buying this camera for zoom meetings. I'm planning to use it either over wi-fi and a power brick or connect it straight to the laptop getting power from the laptop. I work on zoom on average 6 hours per day. How long can this camera stay alive while getting power from the power brick or the laptop?

After the first setup, is it necessary to switch on the camera manually every time or does the remote app start the camera? (I want to place the camera at a place where it is hard to reach and I cant reach the on/off button)
Hi, I have a the a9 and have been successful connecting to my computer and to the remote desktop app. However, even when I set my focus area to Flexible Spot: M or Expand Flexible Spot, I'm not able to change the focus from my computer. The focus option is completely greyed out. I can't actually see where I'm focusing at all. What other settings could I be missing? Thank you!

Hi. i have a Sony Nex - 3, there's no pc remote on the usb options, is only a Mass storage or a PTB options. the software display the cameras name but after ask to sync it ask to change to pc remote. any clue to make this work? thanks

I want to store the videos in the computer, despite with the photos everything is ok, the program tells me that he video will be stored in the card memory of the camera. I have tried in the camera "Only PC" but it still remains telling me and storing the video in the camera. Please, do you know what the problem is and how to solve it. Many thanks.
As far as I know video has to be recorded on the card due to the large file size and possibility of it getting corrupted during transfer. I don't think there is a fix for that...
@@Jason_Hermann no you are right . Only A7riv, Sony Siii , and A7C have that feature bc its new technology built in. I checked with Sony. But you can buy a device that attaches to do it to do wireless tethering which is a bit cumbersome if you want to put a strobe trigger in the hotshoe at same time.
Is there a way to preview and select if you wanna keep the videos after recording? I have an old Canon and just switched to a Sony ZVE-10. And on Canon, I had the Canon software where i could control the camera to focus, shoot and record as well. And I was testing the sony one, the pictures go straight to the computer, but is there a way to do this with the videos as well? - Record it, watch it, discard or keep it without have to unplug the USB and all?
I am not able to view the photos and videos that I am taking while using this app. Even the photos and videos are not getting saved in my PC. They are getting saved in my cam's memory card. How do I save them in the PC (I did what was explained in the video)?

Is it possible to tether camera and computer wireless because wire is so uncomfortable and loose. If I want to shoot people and I want to see results immediately in computer then I need wireless tethering.
This is really helpful except I can't get the PC Remote function to turn on. I have a sony ZV-1 M2 and the settings are different than the ones you show. I don't see an option anywhere to turn PC Remote on. Found the section in the menu that says it includes it but then there isn't an option for it.
@@Jason_Hermann yes I did! Thanks for the fast response. I figured out that it's not in the CnCt./PC Remote section under the little globe but is now in the toolbox under USB. It's all up and working now!
As far as I can tell, this software is really made more for photography than video when it comes to transferring files at least. The video files are just so large, Sony decided it best to copy them over separately I guess. Otherwise you won't be able to do do anything with the camera while the files transfer is my guess...
After I remote and taking a photo. I accident close all software then when I connect again it is nothing in the there.All photo gone. What can i do to get all my photo back please help me
For some reason, its not letting me save the videos on my laptop. I keep getting a message saying videos will be only saved on the memory card. This issue happened with both Sony A7S3 and A7 4. Please do help!
I get an error that says Unable to record video. It was saying the video would be saved to my card, so I removed the card. Now it just says Unable to record video. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Great video, and just what I needed! Quick question, after I installed Imaging Edge Desktop and it installed the Edit, Remote, and Viewer apps, do I still need Imaging Edge Desktop? It looks like I can still launch Edit without having to have Imaging Edge Desktop. I'm also on a Mac.
Thanks a bunch. I have a weird thing going on . When I shoot tethered, the shots appear briefly on the screen, but the latest image only lasts a second or two before the screen defaults back to the first image shot in the session. For portrait sessions, when the client is adjusting poses etc., this is frustrating because I have to walk back to the screen and click back on the latest image for every shot. Help!!
I have some ARW files saved to my desktop shot from my a6400. When I open the Viewer it says "the file format is not supported" and can't view Any further thoughts on this? Thanks for the good video.
Hi there! I have an odd question. Does the program saves/stores the pictures inside de program folder? I'm asking this bc I accidentally deleted the folder where the pictures were being saved from the remote shooting, and I already used those softwares to recover deleated files, but nothing appeared. So I'am hoping that the Sony Imaging Edge has got maybe some hidden folder where it keeps the last photos taken. Do you know anything about that?? Thank you for your time :)
I have an issue with remote view, it displays images in low resolution and I can't even tell if images are in focus. Any idea how to fix it?. I don't want to wait untils after the shot is taking to check focus in "view mode". Your help will be appreciated. Thanks
@@Jason_Hermann From camera(A7II) to computer, connection is wired, once again live view on the remote screen shows a lot of noise, however once shot is taken, image looks sharp in the "view" screen on the sony software.
any clue as to how to do this with an a6000? I have been searching for days and cannot find a solution! Doesn't seem to be supported in live preview as imagining edge goes! Gah!

hey i have a few questions. 1. do my videos save to my computer? my pictures show up but my videos dont and Im only going to be using it for video. 2. is there a way to flip the live view to record horizontally?
@@aaron.chandra I didn't solve the issue but I have answers I guess lol. Videos save to SD card on camera so I've been moving my SD card back and forth which is a pain but whatever. And for flipping the video, I just register my camera as a Webcam on streamlabs and flip it there but still record on imaging edge. So I can see myself how I would see myself in post but I'm still recording normally. Then when I edit I'd flip the video horizontally. Keep in mind I'm only using the micro USB plug. Idk if anything changes if I used the hdmi plug... I don't have one so:) Edit: Also I'm the same guy from the original comment just on a different account lol
When I use Viewer, all my RAW photos are completely scattered without rhyme or reason. There is no clear way to organize the photos in any order. This has forced me to shoot all my photos in JPEG. Viewer sucks.
I would recommend using an application like Adobe Lightroom for your photo management needs. This software is great in a pinch, but not that good compared to a real dedicated program.
I've tried, for weeks on end, to get my FX3 and my A7Siii to connect using Sony Imaging Desktop and their webcam installer.. it shows the camera in the list, the camera is in pc remote mode, but it just will not connect. Gives the error, cannot connect to the camera, make sure its in pc remote mode etc.. obviously, I have tried different cables, changed all the settings, tried quitting google drive and dropbox (running in the background), but nothing will make either of these cameras connect. It must be soemthing with teh mac, not the cameras (as they are two different camera models).. any ideas?
I agree it does sound like something with the Mac... I have not updated mine to Ventura yet, because in the past this has lead to problems with Final Cut for me... Have you tried using the webcam for face time and is it just black, or won't let you select from the list?
@@Jason_Hermann I found a mini hack that allows it to work for a while, which is allow the sony imaging app to access screen recording in the system settings. But its only temp, need to restart the computer to get it work again after any disconnections or screen savers.. sony needs to find a fix! 🥶

I did not try this but it uses the camera mic, so if the mic is plugged into the camera it should work.

Hi, I have followed the steps but the live view screen did not appear on my remote app. But I could take the shot using the remote app. Do you have any idea how to solve this? I am using Sony A5100 and mac. Thank you.
My guess would be the A5100 does not support the live view. It is a older camera compared to the latest models that do support the live view.

After the first setup, is it necessary to switch on the camera manually every time or does the remote app start the camera? (I want to place the camera at a place where it is hard to reach and I cant reach the on/off button)
Off the top of my head I am not sure it's a been a while since I used the program. I'm guess you would need to turn the camera on and off though...
Hi, I have a the a9 and have been successful connecting to my computer and to the remote desktop app. However, even when I set my focus area to Flexible Spot: M or Expand Flexible Spot, I'm not able to change the focus from my computer. The focus option is completely greyed out. I can't actually see where I'm focusing at all. What other settings could I be missing? Thank you!

Hi. i have a Sony Nex - 3, there's no pc remote on the usb options, is only a Mass storage or a PTB options. the software display the cameras name but after ask to sync it ask to change to pc remote. any clue to make this work? thanks
This software is not compatible with that older camera unfortunately.

I have an issue that I do not understand how to solve. I want to store the videos in the computer, despite with the photos everything is ok, the program tells me that he video will be stored in the card memory of the camera. I have tried in the camera "Only PC" but it still remains telling me and storing the video in the camera. Please, do you know what the problem is and how to solve it. Many thanks.
As far as I know video has to be recorded on the card due to the large file size and possibility of it getting corrupted during transfer. I don't think there is a fix for that...

You can shoot wireless tethering ? Seeing images wireless connected on your laptop as you're shooting on your camera?
I believe you have to have a USB cable hooked up, but I could be wrong. I honestly do not know and would need to try out the software again Jamie.
@@Jason_Hermann no you are right . Only A7riv, Sony Siii , and A7C have that feature bc its new technology built in. I checked with Sony. But you can buy a device that attaches to do it to do wireless tethering which is a bit cumbersome if you want to put a strobe trigger in the hotshoe at same time.

I have an old Canon and just switched to a Sony ZVE-10. And on Canon, I had the Canon software where i could control the camera to focus, shoot and record as well.
And I was testing the sony one, the pictures go straight to the computer, but is there a way to do this with the videos as well?
- Record it, watch it, discard or keep it without have to unplug the USB and all?

I am not able to view the photos and videos that I am taking while using this app. Even the photos and videos are not getting saved in my PC. They are getting saved in my cam's memory card. How do I save them in the PC (I did what was explained in the video)?

Is it possible to tether camera and computer wireless because wire is so uncomfortable and loose. If I want to shoot people and I want to see results immediately in computer then I need wireless tethering.

This is really helpful except I can't get the PC Remote function to turn on. I have a sony ZV-1 M2 and the settings are different than the ones you show. I don't see an option anywhere to turn PC Remote on. Found the section in the menu that says it includes it but then there isn't an option for it.
Do you have the camera in the correct mode? Video vs Photo for example.... The Menu will change depending on the mode the camera is in.
@@Jason_Hermann yes I did! Thanks for the fast response. I figured out that it's not in the CnCt./PC Remote section under the little globe but is now in the toolbox under USB. It's all up and working now!

As far as I can tell, this software is really made more for photography than video when it comes to transferring files at least. The video files are just so large, Sony decided it best to copy them over separately I guess. Otherwise you won't be able to do do anything with the camera while the files transfer is my guess...

Are you sure your USB cable is one that supports data, and you have your camera set to PC Remote???

For some reason, its not letting me save the videos on my laptop. I keep getting a message saying videos will be only saved on the memory card. This issue happened with both Sony A7S3 and A7 4. Please do help!
I get an error that says Unable to record video. It was saying the video would be saved to my card, so I removed the card. Now it just says Unable to record video. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Great video, and just what I needed! Quick question, after I installed Imaging Edge Desktop and it installed the Edit, Remote, and Viewer apps, do I still need Imaging Edge Desktop? It looks like I can still launch Edit without having to have Imaging Edge Desktop. I'm also on a Mac.
Yeah I believe you need to have all the apps, because they work together as a package. You don't need to use them all though of course...
Thanks a bunch. I have a weird thing going on . When I shoot tethered, the shots appear briefly on the screen, but the latest image only lasts a second or two before the screen defaults back to the first image shot in the session. For portrait sessions, when the client is adjusting poses etc., this is frustrating because I have to walk back to the screen and click back on the latest image for every shot. Help!!

Hi there! I have an odd question. Does the program saves/stores the pictures inside de program folder? I'm asking this bc I accidentally deleted the folder where the pictures were being saved from the remote shooting, and I already used those softwares to recover deleated files, but nothing appeared. So I'am hoping that the Sony Imaging Edge has got maybe some hidden folder where it keeps the last photos taken. Do you know anything about that?? Thank you for your time :)
Hello, I believe the photos only save in the location you set in the preferences, but maybe they are on your memory card in the camera also?

Which camera are you using? Wi-fi or wired?
@@Jason_Hermann I have a sony AII, live view in the remote screen looks shows a lot of digital noise on the edge image software.

@@Jason_Hermann From camera(A7II) to computer, connection is wired, once again live view on the remote screen shows a lot of noise, however once shot is taken, image looks sharp in the "view" screen on the sony software.

FYI If there is any app that supports any type of photos open, I mean any, dropbox, preview, photoshop, Lightroom etc. Turn them off!

When you scroll down to the A6000 you can see you don't get live view support on that camera. Sorry, that sucks!

@@aaron.chandra I didn't solve the issue but I have answers I guess lol. Videos save to SD card on camera so I've been moving my SD card back and forth which is a pain but whatever.
And for flipping the video, I just register my camera as a Webcam on streamlabs and flip it there but still record on imaging edge. So I can see myself how I would see myself in post but I'm still recording normally. Then when I edit I'd flip the video horizontally.
Keep in mind I'm only using the micro USB plug. Idk if anything changes if I used the hdmi plug... I don't have one so:)

When I use Viewer, all my RAW photos are completely scattered without rhyme or reason. There is no clear way to organize the photos in any order. This has forced me to shoot all my photos in JPEG. Viewer sucks.
I would recommend using an application like Adobe Lightroom for your photo management needs. This software is great in a pinch, but not that good compared to a real dedicated program.
I've tried, for weeks on end, to get my FX3 and my A7Siii to connect using Sony Imaging Desktop and their webcam installer.. it shows the camera in the list, the camera is in pc remote mode, but it just will not connect. Gives the error, cannot connect to the camera, make sure its in pc remote mode etc.. obviously, I have tried different cables, changed all the settings, tried quitting google drive and dropbox (running in the background), but nothing will make either of these cameras connect. It must be soemthing with teh mac, not the cameras (as they are two different camera models).. any ideas?
I agree it does sound like something with the Mac... I have not updated mine to Ventura yet, because in the past this has lead to problems with Final Cut for me... Have you tried using the webcam for face time and is it just black, or won't let you select from the list?
@@Jason_Hermann I found a mini hack that allows it to work for a while, which is allow the sony imaging app to access screen recording in the system settings. But its only temp, need to restart the computer to get it work again after any disconnections or screen savers.. sony needs to find a fix! 🥶
