  • I head to the woods to carve a spoon from silver birch and enjoy a cup of tea. Tools used were the Hans Karlsson carving axe, Svante Djarv hook knife, Beavercraft carving knife and the stove is a Svea 123R.

Thanks, makes it work better with liquid if you eat with it.

Lovely. I still use the spoon you carved for me. Interesting stove - pity we didn't have them for our hiking trips in the 'Berg. What an interesting cup!

@@bundufundi do you also have the Julia Kalthoff carving axe or did I invent that?

@@brettbrown9814 Yes, I do have a Kalthoff axe. Also a great axe and seems to be very nice small enterprise. Well worth supporting.

@@bundufundi Agreed. Pretty sure she ran Wetterlings before starting her own business. Looks like she makes beautiful products. Love that portable stove as well.

I’ve just come across your channel in my recommended videos! Absolutely wonderful content, thank you. I recently moved to the Rocky Mountains and been learning how to utilize and maintain the materials around me; got my first hatchet, harvested a couple willow branches from a local stream bank (next to some beaver chewed ones!), and picked up spoon carving and whittling. Next on the agenda is basket making! This is a long-winded way of saying thanks, kudos, and enjoy! 💕

I'm reminded of reading the story of a sailing couple and their guest who were dismasted in a storm far from land. Once it was calm enough to begin setting up a jury rig, the guest, who was an experienced boatman, said: "We'll begin after I've sharpened my tools". I enjoyed watching the care with which you prepared your knives.

Thank you, is it getting cold on the highveld yet? I hear that all the rain has made the bush green up a lot, I really miss the sounds of the bush.

@@bundufundi It is, indeed. The rain clouds are being replaced by scattered clouds with the grey edges, although I see bright blue with sunshine at present. There was snow on the Maluti's nearly 2 weeks ago, but obviously the devastating floods in KZN have taken precedence in the news.
      Take care.

Thanks mate! I have made a larger strop for the workshop but this one I bought some time ago. Tools just work so much better when they are sharp as you know with your razor sharp axes!
