My dad was a rabid baseball fan living in Hudson, WI. He was not able to get to any of his beloved’ Braves 1957 series. So when the Brewers made it to the Pennant and Series in ‘82 he went to all of the games at County Stadium. I got to go to that weird game 4 of the Series. We had a blast. My dad passed away a few years ago, but I will have him in my heart when I see the movie. Thanks for making it possible.
I remember it all well. I was 11. Cried when they lost game 7. Listened to most games in my dad's car at my sister's hs volleyball games. Harvey's Wallbangers.
I was only 4 years old but this is A HUGE part of the mythology of my childhood. My memories of that actual year are few but vivid. I became a more aware fan a couple years later. But this group of players, many still with the team when I could go to games are who I will always remember. So much part of who the Brewers were to me my interest largely faded by late 90s when they were all gone. So glad to be able to see this in a theater. Probably multiple times!
I was 21-22 that year. The daily procession of cars traveling up and down Wisconsin Ave through downtown was awesome; standing up through a sunroof high-5ng people lining the street. I was in heaven. Best year of my life. We were united, we were Brew Crew, true and blue. Thanks for the memories and can’t wait to own this!
There are now three times where Milwaukee was this crazy about a sports team. First was the 1957 Braves. Second was the 1982 Brewers. Third was the 2021 Bucks. I'm glad I got to live that third one out, because those weeks in June and July in the Deer District were unbelievable. Those three seasons are why Milwaukee sports moments are so much more magical. They don't come very often here, so you embrace and enjoy them as much as you can.
In 1982, I was in high school. During the series, I was subbing for a friend who had a paper route(look it up, it was a thing) Even now I remember this. I was in the paper substation, putting the paper together for the route. And all anyone was talking about, was when they would win the 4th game. Not if, but when.
Just watched this today. It was fantastic and found myself tearing up for an era I wasn’t even apart of. (I was born in ’81 and too young to experience it) Of course I always knew the outcome of game 7, but I never knew the particulars in getting from the regular season to that night. This film takes you through it and the stories behind it. But the ending of this film had me in tears when you learn just how much a city can love its team. If you’re a fan of the Brewers or just baseball, go see this film!
This was great! I remember this season. Milwaukee was such a great team top to bottom, full of all stars and HOFs but they came one game short because the Cardinals were great too!
I am connected to the Brewers through my family but I myself am not from Wisconsin. Nevertheless, I was raised a Brewer fan, and 1982 was the first emotional roller coaster I experienced as a supporter of the team. And there has been nothing like it since for me. There is one thing I will always remember very vividly: The day Rollie Fingers got injured, my dad said rather portentously, "That's it. They can't win the World Series without Rollie." And how I wish he hadn't been right... but he was. But boy did we hope until the very end; in fact, it still doesn't seem real that the Brewers actually lost the '82 Series. No matter what happens with the Brewers organization in the future, the 1982 squad will always be Milwaukee's most legendary Brewer team.
I'll never forget when the second they clinched the win in game 5 of the ALCS to go to the World Series, a literal roaring cheer could be heard for a few seconds throughout southeastern Wisconsin! Honestly! You could hear this roar from all the fans!
If you’re not from Wisconsin, this story of a WS loser does not make any sense…but it is a top baseball story because of mainly the same team of guys after five years finally breaking thru, winning Game 162, coming back first time ALCS 0-2, and then losing WS Game 7? Losing? Yep…the huge victory like parade for a WS loser is what makes this a story….an unheard of thing that resonates today…..Crazy fans wanting to celebrate their team regardless of the outcome, making the whole thing shake your head priceless.
one of the filmmakers here…a) THANK YOU! and b) we’ve had great reactions from those who know the story very well and those don’t know anything about that team. we think there are some universal human emotions that are present throughout this documentary.
@@calibadger7960 Glad to comment and help you out….If you have a couple of tickets to spare to the world premiere in Waukesha, I would love to take my dad.
1982 Milwaukee Brewers were the best team to not win the World Series. Pete Vuckovich and Rollie Fingers did not play. Both back to back Cy Young winners and Rollie was MVP
@@chrisjerome4183vuke DID play and started 2 games, despite having a torn rotator cuff. correct though that rollie did not and some felt that might have been the difference in the series.
@@calibadger7960 One thing that has kind of gotten lost in the lore of this season is that in spite of having almost nothing left in his arm, Vuckovich made it to the sixth inning of game 7 of the World Series on the road and left with a 3-1 lead (which I'm sure you mention in the film). That was honestly an amazing performance in hindsight and it shows how badly he wanted to win. If either Vuckovich or Fingers had been healthy, the Brewers almost certainly would have prevailed.
I am here to tell everyone this is our Crew. Murphy's Maulers are so close to tasting real success it is silly! The kids they invested in are BALLERS . Garrett Mitchell, Bryce Turang, Sal Frelick, Blake Perkins, Joey Ortiz, William Contreras, and Jackson Chourio are the finest young group of baseball player I have watched in a in Milwaukee ALL STOP. I think we are about to witness the apex of the Brewers building project in the next 3 seasons and when these kids turn that corner from rookie to vet this team will not be loosing much. The pitching in the wings is OUTSTANDING and the bullpen is going to be a strength of this franchise for at least another decade or more. Devin Williams may be gone and Willy Adames will find his money elsewhere. But the prospects coming to fill that position are Superstars waiting their turn. Names like Jesus Made and Cooper Pratt hold major star power much the same as Chourio with Golden Glove defensive proficiency especially with Pratt. Craig Yoho is the finest future closer the Brewers have found since Devin Williams. Wait till you see this guys breaking Changeup whirly ball nightmare strikeout maker. If you think Air bending was exciting to watch you'll Love Craig Yoho and he will put strike outs back on the map her in Beer town. One more name before i make my point . Jacob Misiorowski is the Brewers version of Paul Skenes. Is he Skenes? No he is something else made of space stuff. He has heat and movement and what he has already is top 5 pitching stuff in the MLB. What he can become is beyond imagination . Well taking the time to believe this franchise is about to bring this thing home. That is my longwinded point. I see this Brewers team as the best group in team history . Right now is the Brewers best shot at a Pennant and a World Series championship that will shake the state of Wisconsin when it happens. This team has every single piece, From a dynamite pitching school, to great Management this team has built itself for the next 3-5 years to build a Championship Brewers. It has EVERY piece it needs to win a World Series in house right now. This team is young and talented and strong with prospects that can change outcomes at the highest level. What is needs to win it all is sitting right here right now. The team may never win even with this roster if the fans refuse to believe this team can win it all . This fanbase has become a fanbase of people who are Brewers fans but hold animosity from so many heartbreaking finishes that have sullied the heart of these fans. They want to win . So much that they forget what it takes to win . This team is a united Fanbase away from making magic with these guys . WE have everything but BELIEF .. If the fans honestly believe their team is not going to win IT WON"T ! So what i am asking all of you who love your Crew and are sick to death of losing every season is this ..... BELIEVE !!! BELIEVE ! This team is OUR CREW ! LETS GO! Get your friends who lost faith to tune in ! Get them to the games next summer! Show them Jackson Chourio and hopefully a Yelich with a healthy back and they will see greatness and be consumed by it as I am. I Love this Crew! I have a connection with this team like few that any professional sport has ever presented. Top to bottom the roster is amazing. The players who play for our Brewers are throwbacks and ballers. They need to be watched. 2024 was a taste of the Brewers to come. The team that has been built from scratch the slow way to beat the MLB system is NOW. BELIEVE IN THIS CREW ..and championship GLORY WILL FOLLOW !
I was too young to follow this team, but what was so magical about them? The team had been a contender for each of the past 4 or 5 seasons before this one, including going to the ALDS the season prior. They were loaded w/ talent, having multiple All-Stars & HOFers in their primes. It's not like this team came out of nowhere like the 1991 Twins that finished in last the season prior, or the '88 Dodgers who just had an incredible run w/ subpar talent (they were below-.500 the 2 seasons before & the season after their WS run), or the 1969 Miracle Mets...
...and I still despise the Cardinals to this very day. Best uniforms in baseball, but ... can't stand them. I don't even dislike the Cubbies (just their fans)

35 million people watched this WS. Last year it was 4.5.
Go Brewers.

Man that’s exactly how I feel! I can still name the lineup to this day lol

This was the first World Series I remember. I’m from Chicago, but I’d love to see this film.

Budweiser (st. Louis) vs Miller (Milwaukee) world series.
I hope this will eventually be available to watch via streaming. Not everyone lives near Marcus' theaters.
