Good work on showing the "hoppers". Wondering if they were able to make flight after all?

I love these birds! But observing and photographing for the last four years have never seen the male aggression as in this video. Quite the opposite… the males seem to care more for the fledglings than the female. Time and time again…❤

I think he's just over zealous about getting them to eat. It's strange that he's not waiting for the gaping cue. I'll have to review the in house feeding videos to see if he was feeding appropriately then. It does feel disconcerting and aggressive, but there's always food in his beak that he's trying to feed them. His odd behavior is actually why I made the video.

And my pair right now have the tendency for the male to hand off the food to the female for the her to feed the kids while he gets more. They're definitely a team! I always love that.

That has also been my observation over 20+ years of blue birding... I have also observed juvenile birds engage in feeding fledglings... The fledglings in this video look underdeveloped (like they fledged a bit early). I have seen a female bird that was unusually "nonchalant" towards the young, foisting the entire workload on the daddy bird.... I never get tired of watching them. They are amazing birds.

Gosh, those poor babies looked younger than 18 days to me with very undeveloped flying capability. I hope that some of them survived. Poor papa bluebird seemed desperate for them to eat something. I hope most of them were able to get off the ground and up higher to a safer perch before nightfall.

Yup. I helped a couple up to the branches. They all survived. That pair of parents seemed like newbies or something. The fledglings were definitely 18 days old, I marked it on a calendar. Their next 2 broods seemed like better flyers right away.
