Do your birds hang out in Maine all winter? I wonder what they will do if I don't put out the mealworms.
@@kittenkorleone2918 they do stay all winter. This year I missed a few feedings and they seemed to find another source nearby. They'd leave for a couple of days then return. It's hard thinking you're keeping the group alive by yourself but I think they're actually pretty crafty
This is amazing!
Wow!!!
what camera is this?
It's a ring camera. That's why it's kinda grainy. It's just a better view for this event than the other one I have out. I'll probably put that out later.
@@themysteryofbluebirdboulevard what model?
I do love when baby bluebirds demand to get fed by their parents while they are literally standing on the food that they are fully capable of eating themselves. Bonus points when they solicit random non-bluebirds to feed them as well.
Or each other!
I love these birds! But observing and photographing for the last four years have never seen the male aggression as in this video. Quite the opposite… the males seem to care more for the fledglings than the female. Time and time again…❤
I think he's just over zealous about getting them to eat. It's strange that he's not waiting for the gaping cue. I'll have to review the in house feeding videos to see if he was feeding appropriately then. It does feel disconcerting and aggressive, but there's always food in his beak that he's trying to feed them. His odd behavior is actually why I made the video.
And my pair right now have the tendency for the male to hand off the food to the female for the her to feed the kids while he gets more. They're definitely a team! I always love that.
That has also been my observation over 20+ years of blue birding... I have also observed juvenile birds engage in feeding fledglings... The fledglings in this video look underdeveloped (like they fledged a bit early). I have seen a female bird that was unusually "nonchalant" towards the young, foisting the entire workload on the daddy bird.... I never get tired of watching them. They are amazing birds.
Amazing capture and professionally positioned camera to capture the “Miracles” Of Nature‼️”
Thank you Mrs Robinson!
You motivated me to put my wildlife camera close to the birdfeeder. But we will not have such exceptional birds as you. A Robin bird is expected after the pigeons (collared dove), magpies and probabely... rats.
Awesome! And welcome to the channel. You might be able to get bluebirds to your yard. Are you in the eastern US? Oh wait. Magpies? You're probably in the UK or Australia. Don't ya'll have wild parrots?
@@themysteryofbluebirdboulevard We have an exotique Collared Parakeet flying here. I live near to Brussels. For me here the most pretty common is the Chikadee Bird.
I enjoyed this very much. I just put up a nesting box and saw Bluebirds checking it out this morning! I'm prepared for trouble if it should arrive. I hope it doesn't. I haven't seen but one House Sparrow around here but I have my nesting box trap at the ready and will be building traps for both them and Starlings.
The baby birds are so cute. This video is very peaceful; thank you for sharing! John 3:16 KJV
They aren't doing "nothing" ! ! They are eating, growing, observing, learning to "speak".
It's tongue in cheek. A disclaimer for anyone expecting crazy fledgeling action! I'm not calling them lazy... They're just being cute doing their fledgeling things all in one place!
So cute when #4 showed up!
When? I only saw the parents...
#4 showed up at time stamp 54:21. It wasn’t long after a parent had brought food to the group of 3. I figure #4 was in the tree and when it saw the parent (dad, I think) feeding its siblings, it decided to join the group. Very sweet!
So cool !!!
That is the sweetest thing. To me it looks like she is reenacting and re-solidifying the memory of some of her important takeaways from when she had them there. Turning the eggs, waiting, feeding their newly hatched beaks. Aw, my heart. Keepin her skills fresh because spring always comes again.🎼🐦
Really enjoyable footage! Thank you. And yikes to the bigger branch giving way. That must be a real copper bowl, to withstand the strength of the winds.
That was a whole tree! That took big pine branches with it.
Hilarious pleasures!
Well i don't think i can name them, but I'll embarrass myself and try. Was the first one a rather drenched tufted titmouse, then something like a nuthatch (in which neck of the woods are you), but not quite identical to the red-breasted or white breasted ones i know here so, no. I'm certain it wasn't a kinglet, sparrow, or wren (the upward tail slant though..), but idk what bird it was. Then robin, crow or blackbird/grackle, and could that last guy be a species of seagull? He seemed a bit different!
There was a gray catbird, those are crows and the last is a herring gull. And a gray squirrel. Don't forget that stinker.
@@themysteryofbluebirdboulevardMuch as I would like to forget grey squirrel, and red squirrel, they insert themselves into our experiences with our beloved wild and free birds, do they not? I've daydreamed of making a potato shooter, that would smart (smaht) with a good aim to the butt! Instead I entice them away, with the pistachios I cannot pry open for myself to eat, and walnuts that are too dark or shriveled for me or the grade A fare at my actual bird restaurant - which is only open for a few select hours most days and the birds are great at knowing when exactly to stop over. Altho this fall has been weird and puzzling. I just watched one of your longer form videos and cannot get over the footage you catch. Thanks.
Oh my gosh, your channel is so much fun to watch and to listen to!! Exemplary narration, my dear Sir David Attenborough, well done! I adore these fledglings! I'm most like number four and and i pray she or he survives the first season, that all of them do. Their local environment appears advantageous to their thriving.
I think they all molted a couple of months later, but I've only seen a couple since then. One was limping for a while, but noone stopped him from getting mealworms! The flock has not found my yard yet this winter. I'm glad you like my narrations. I should finish up my next one and post it.
Was this the hopper in your last vid?
Good work on showing the "hoppers". Wondering if they were able to make flight after all?
Yes. Later that day. And all survived into adulthood
So much fun! 😊
I am curious about the chatting. Usually my bluebirds chat when they are annoyed or alarmed. Do you think they were chatting at you, or is this chatting part of the mating dance?
So... After watching many videos I've taken here is what I think. 1- I hear the chatter calls almost entirely when they're in 'flock mode' outside of breeding season. I only hear it as an alarm (someone else went into their houses,) or for communication during food consumption. 2- Wing flapping appears to be symmetrical when alerting, but unilateral when courting/greeting mates. I have sometimes included symmetrical wing flapping in "courtship" montages, but am more cautious now about differentiating. FYI.. This is a pre mating season video... Thanks for the question!
Put up predator guard
Yup. Good advice in general. Not helpful against high winds though.
Beautiful filming! thank you!
Thanks!
Gosh, those poor babies looked younger than 18 days to me with very undeveloped flying capability. I hope that some of them survived. Poor papa bluebird seemed desperate for them to eat something. I hope most of them were able to get off the ground and up higher to a safer perch before nightfall.
Yup. I helped a couple up to the branches. They all survived. That pair of parents seemed like newbies or something. The fledglings were definitely 18 days old, I marked it on a calendar. Their next 2 broods seemed like better flyers right away.
Tucking them underneath her, or feeding them.
That's a good guess without seeing more footage, but she is digging and diving deep in the nest beneath them. I also have feeding and brooding footage that doesn't look like this...
Starting over after a loss in birds, is good example for humans!
Liking, commenting or subscribing helps me make more videos...
Detailed, and Loving capture!!
Such “Miracles of Life”!
There are 2 pair of Cardinals in our backyard. They feed everyday, but the really beautiful thing is when the male birds sing all day as if to see which one has the best song.
Love the End credits!!!
One of the BEST David Attenborough documentaries! Thank you for educating us all on the Eastern Bluebird! ❤

You can imagine sitting in a thick wooden box with a small hole for the door ( to enter & exit ) with the summer Sun, beating down on all day. That's the same device slave owners used to torture run-away slaves. Please take down these wooden bird boxes or modify to allow clear ventilation. Peace
Thanks for your concern.
This this is a prime example of the wooden bird boxes old style that have no ventilation during summer and slowly cook the chicks to death.
I'm in Maine. Altogether, my birds have fledged 31 babies and counting over 2 years. No dead babies. The earth is not a single climate like planets in star wars, but I appreciate your enthusiasm for these lovely beauties.
No they’re not “people” they’re BIRDS
