About the reserve
Cotton Dell is a pretty reserve with ancient woodlands and flower-rich grassland, located within a secluded river valley.
Highlights
Take a walk around the reserve on a sunny autumn day and enjoy the sights and sounds of a woodland and its wildlife preparing for winter.
Visit in spring to be rewarded with a rich chorus of bird song throughout the woodland.
The grasslands are at their best in summer, when butterflies and other insects are busy feeding amongst the flower-rich pastures.

My take on it on the day...
First off, this is quite a long one folks, about 45 mins in total. Stick around for the entire walk if you like good scenery and some entertainment. Not the first time I've visited and walked the Cotton Dell Nature Reserve during different seasons too! However, this visit I did elect to walk further on to find the open fields with the wild flowers, unfortunately I was a bit late in the season as it's a spring thing for the best show of wild flowers in the pastures.
Millie our dog as usual was with me on this one which made the walk a little harder going for me later on into the walk. I had to scale walls and other obstacles as I climbed higher up onto the peak of the hillside to appreciate the walk's different surroundings and ambience changes.
All in all it's one of my favourite walks and places in the North Staffs area, especially if the weather is good. Not entirely favourable for dog walking, but doable if you're a bit daft like me ;)

8.5 For the overall walk. 6 For walikng with the dog as it's more taxing on my older lungs and legs ;)
