Which has been a thing for almost 20 years now. Especially with f2p games small MTX growing bigger and bigger making packages to hook people and so on. Companys trained their players for years and that BP System won't be changed even the Blackcell pass is on Steam each Season it comes out Topseller.

However there have been plenty of people pointing out that the matchmaking prioritizes engagement over skill.
It's why after a loss streak you tend to win, any why it's harder to get multiple wins in a row (Compared to earlier in the games life cycle).
However I am inebriated so my explanation probably sucks.

So, it seems like the math works out to being twice as many free coins a season, twice as many paid coins a season (for twice the price), 4 times as many paid crafting metals (for twice the price). Which honestly doesn't sound terrible (basically sounds like a wash), until you factor in that the COINS CAN'T BE USED FOR THE BATTLE PASS! At that point, there's almost no increased value (twice as many coins for twice the price and you HAVE to spend $$$ to get the pass). Do they really think no one will notice?
So are people upset because they only want BP cosmetics? Cuz you can use those earned coins to buy other things in the shop/collection events….so they still have purchasing power and value. But I guess the community only wants to buy BPs with their coins instead of collection event skins, that are way better btw, with those coins you earn.
The real deal breaker is if the passes are much easier to unlock, Grindy battle passes ramp up toxicity and player division harder than anything else, and now there's less time and more money spent. New BP's aren't a better deal but still the best deal if you can just turn it on and clear it easily.
People who buy battlepasses put themselves in this position. I'm happy playing most games as long as a battlepass is just skins and I couldn't care less how assfucked cucked battlepass enjoyers are getting as they are basically subsidising my free to play experience.

Also the twice as many coins thing isn't as nice because the usefulness of the coins has gone down because you can't buy the pass with them.
For those out of the loop as far as Apex goes, the game is borderline unplayable because of the cheaters, optimization and server stability. Its been this way for some time. Zero communication, then this was dropped on our foreheads.
The BP changes alone are egregious but on top of everything else? Most Apex players are considering this the beginning of the end of an already slow decline into a dead game.
Our top streamers are constantly being stream sniped by cheaters. Some of those going for #1 Pred have had to stop streaming and in same cases, stop playing.
The server stability has never been worse. Random insane packet loss, constant high ping servers, ranked disconnects left and right.
We've had the same 3 boring metas, both weapon and legend, for almost 2 years now. Its a constant cycle of inability to balance and unwillingness to act on the devs part.
We havent had a well functioning ranked mode since May 2022.
We recently hit one of the lowest recorded player counts ever and the lowest since 2021.
Very minimal public communication about any of it, often times whole seasons without addressing anything.
Oh so Apex somehow makes OW look like a god tier game

@@tuckmasterg A few months ago I picked up OW again after not playing very much of it since OW1 on console. This game feels, looks and plays incredible in comparison. Not to dismiss OWs very glaring issues, but yes, its an objectively much better game right now.
That is sad to hear. I've not played Apex in years, but back then it was good fun. Occasionally considered giving it another try over the years, but it seems it isn't really good anymore at all from what you're saying.

Badges are a lil different in apex, you display up to 3 on a character banner. They have been around before ow2 came out. They are usually lil animated badges
As an apex player, badges are just as useless as the stickers and charms.

@@AngrySecs According to steam stats, they are now at around 225K, they were at this level last time in Dec 2021, so they are doing fine. 225K just on steam is A LOT of players, most live service games could only dream of such numbers. Numbers are from steamdb
Now if the trend continues and they reach 100K, now that would be concerning, for now it's just drama and people will probably go back after a week or two (I hope they don't, but that's copium)

If I had a coin for very top notch game that ruined itself by abandoning balance and incorporating the most scummy monetization, I'd have two coins this month! OW using the good skins as exclusives for the 40 dollar bp & apex not letting you finish the bp until you spend 40 dollars. What a great time to play Elden Ring again!

Apex is the epitome of whale hunting F2P game. Anti noob game that appeals to those who stuck around long enough to get good. A game thats been out for as long as it has with as big a skill ceiling as it has is ripe to milk their core fans for all they got. A sad state for gaming in 2024, and see this becoming a larger trend around the micro-transactionalizing of micro-transactions.

Man.. When Apex launched I was addicted for like the first 8 seasons, eventually I just started playing less n less til around season 10. Haven't played in ages.
Battlepasses are a cancer on gaming. I really dislike the free game with a premium battlepass monitization model, but it is unfortunately attached to the type of games that I typically enjoy playing the most. I miss when games had challenges to complete to unlock the cool gear. I used to associate high end cosmetics with skill at the game. Now it just means someone spent money.
Or a bit of money and all their free time. BP are there to keep the average Joe playing. The shop is for the whales.
It's half the reason they split the BP in 2. Half of players grinded the shit out of the game in a few weeks and left. Those players will not be exposed to the shop for 2 months and that us unacceptable. Need to sink all those hours to get a fallacy going.
Fortnite is really the only game that does battle passes right.

i am just happy that there's 1500 guaranteed white credits to unlock legendaries for a hero every season. I bought one full season BP and the mini BP from Christmas and I have Legendaries for all heroes except Sombra, Genji and Venture (though Venture is a bit of a stretch tbh)

as a apex legends player since season 9 i would of been fine with the premium plus being added but the bp was the only thing most players had to grind for and now it is just flat out gone, not to mention about how you need to pay upwards of $300 dollars for a gambling event, $180 for a heirloom (melee item) and if you miss that heirlooms event you have to get lucky from packs or pay $500 to get it, and now they force us to pay for there battle pass
You're spending more AND having to grind longer to get everything. I'm so glad I never got addicted to buying these predatory passes.
Apex used to be the exception. I played for 14 or so seasons and had the BP every single season. I paid actual money ONE time and the BP pays for itself from season to season.
I bought one battlepass in season 9 and haven't had to buy another one with real money ever since. But after this they can keep it
Would love to see numbers on how many people are purchasing the BP from now on compared to before. Not that EA will reveal those, unless it shows them in a good light.
Half the season now, has the same items you can get for the whole season then. It means that rather than have to achieve lvl 110 to get all of them, you just need to get to level 60. So you get double the items for each season. It's a great change but only using real money is shit. The only reason people grind the battle pass and play your game is to get enough coin to buy the next battle pass.

honestly this just reminds me of how good Overwatch's battlepass actually is. Yes, some themes are not for everyone, but the value and quality of items u get is far beyond games like Valorant and Apex Legends which really just put the ugly skins into the battlepass and 90% of their rewards are just doo doo.

@@mateuszkrytyk5711imo no. Apex battle passes are LITTERED with ugly rare skins(like 1 for every weapon and most legends). There are also tons of very awful trackers that serve so purpose other than to say “you have 15 kills in season 22.” There’s 2-3 of these for every legend. We get about 3 legendary skins, 5-6 epic skins(recolors) a couple charms, sprays and emotes. Maybe 10-15% of the battle pass has worth while rewards.

I actually really like this system in Overwatch where you buy 2 battle passes you essentially get the third battle pass free as long as you play enough I hope this doesn't change and seems fair

Ape sex Legends is gonna be going down as one of the hardest declines of all time.
The issue isn't the price increase in isolation it's that they're increasing the price when the game is borderline unplayable due to the absurd levels of cheaters which respawn/ea has not acknowledged at all. If they fixed the cheater issue and the balancing then I wouldn't really have an issue with the price. It is a solely cosmetic purchase after all.
Heirloom is a lil different. Reactive is a type of legendary weapon skin that reacts to kills or damage etc. Heirlooms are like the themed weapon skins in ow, there are Heirloom melee weapons for each character and there are Heirloom skins that have special visual effects. They usually come with a unique finishers.

The most hated stuff about the new BP system is surely the restriction of using apex coins to buy it. If they keep the possibility to buy it with apex coins, everything else is fine, not a great problem, even doubling the amount of BPs per season.
The problem is that they are making apex coins useless for most of the players, because, you know, due to high prices for in-game shop cosmetics the only cosmetics a casual player was getting all the way before was from the BP. Who dafuq will buy the single skin for a price of 2.5 BPs? So people just bought BPs and gathered ACs for further BPs and for that small bunch of ACs left they sometimes purchased some stuff from the shop.
And now the whole system is ruined cause you can no longer buy BP with AC...
And that is the way to destroy the game.
I wonder how people would react to AAA games costing $100 or more. (Not talking about overwatch) but big titles in general have been around the same price forever. It’s nice having cheap games and steam is king obv but since game studios don’t bring in nearly as much money as compared to back then I feel like it might’ve hurt gaming in general since to make profits they keep having to cut corners and sacrifice the quality of their product. I mean Skyrim cost 10 dollars more than smb3 that came out in 1990 20 years before. I think a lot of companies rode that high until inflation caught up with them and either got bought out or bankrupt

I started playing apex literally 5 days before those BP changes, but I see what's wrong with those prices. They have at least 6 kinds of coins, newest ones are Shards and they have price of mythic coins in OW, but as far as I know, you can only buy them.
Also unlocking new legends is hell. I played over 60 matches and I still got half of the points needed to buy a legend, even in Valorant it easier - you got 5 free agent at the start, but it takes probably 3 hours to complete beginner contract to get 2 new agents and then you can buy rest with Kingdom credits which are pretty easy to earn.

I genuinely like everything about this except for the real money thing. The only reason i dont buy the passes now is the filler crappy items that make grinding the pass feel bad. The real money isnt even that bad since ill just use the ac to buy event packs.

The only way this "added value" makes sense is if the first pass doesn't have a half-season timer and can be completed throughout the season. Because as a casual Apex-enjoyer, the "more rewards in less tiers" is appealing to me because I would rarely ever complete a season's Battle Pass. 110 tiers is alot and you really didn't get much out of them. The new Passes are about 1.75x better in terms of rewards, but my only concern is a potential timer.
From an old seasoned Apex player (since literally S1), it sucks. The previous pass was value, it provided what a player would want from a season, 1 cool skin for weapon and 1 cool skin for legend and some objectives to grind.
Now for OW people, the Apex coins that were used to unlock the pass (if you wanted) ONLY WERE AVAILABLE to unlock if you BOUGHT the pass, you couldnt get the coins with a free pass.
I really wouldnt have minded the change to only use money to buy the pass BUT NOW I HAVE TO DO IT TWICE A SEASON, thats stupid. People dont want skins, really, they are not evem that good and you could rarely diatinguish them in the game.
to play devil's advocate i'm one of the reasons for this change, i bought one battle pass in season 2 and have ridden it all the way to now without paying for a BP and have more Legend tokens than I will ever need. THAT BEING SAID. the only reason i stuck around, bought more skins, kept playing, and overall gave it even a chance each season was because i could exploit the battle pass. but it was one "free" thing that kept me coming back and kept me interacting with the game and purchasing more coins for other cosmetics or events. idk EA and AAA devs think giving anything away for free is "money left on the table" but it actually keeps people interested especially when that "free" thing costs them literally $0.
I'm okay with a change, but I think their direction is incorrect.
overwatch gives you a partial refund for completing the pass, just decrease the amount of coins you get back and you're good.

the only redeeming quality is thats enough crafting materials to buy 1 event legendary for free
as a person that plays Apex 110 is always the max when you reach level 100 in the battle pass you get a reactive skin and this reactive skin reacts to Knox and kills and then the process of getting up to 110 you don't get anything there are no rewards in between 101 and 109 when you get to 110 though you get a recolored version of the same reactive skin
This is even after the $360 death boxes earlier this year btw.
You know, I have been thinking that these cosmetic shops aren't just for making money, they also create an incentive structure for the devs to never put their main focus on the game. Sure, it helps them get money to work on the game, but if all of their cash comes from selling skins, all it takes is one accountant to look at where the money is coming from to force all development to head towards the shops. Does making a better game for the players get more money? Yes, but not in the short term, and unless some suit looks out for the long term, all games with a cosmetic shop will continuously get shittier and shittier.
In theory a shop should provide more funds for a better game, but over time without a long term gaming focus, it will only lead to a declining game as they place more focus on more and more shop sales.

It’s hilarious to see how each mega corp dips their toes into further anti consumer features to see what we tolerate, as we slowly but surely find ourselves closer to a dystopian future. It’s crazy to think things like map packs and huge dlcs used to be like 5-10 bucks a pop and now we have this.

Call of duty started this trend. They sell $40 battle passes every season and lock the cool cosmetics behind it. It’s so scummy. Fortnite (A FREE GAME) has never done anything remotely as greedy.
Coins in OW battle pass don’t give a little extra. Over the course of the season, challenges will have given more, like 660 or something.
i mean other than the the must use money to buy the battle path. The split of season is Litterally just the OW2 battle pass duration. They saw people buying OW2 bp every season and wwere like we want that. We forget their seasons are a lot longer than OW seasons so splitting it by 2 is just getting to almost Ow2 seasons
down to 60 from 110 is just 5 levels over half, in half the time frame is okay.

Just for people who are struggling with the currency. $9.99=1000 coins, 950 was one bp worth 110 levels. Now you have to spend $9.99x2 for 120 levels. This is literally a little more than doubling the price of the bp.
Edit: Also you would only needed to spend $9.99 at first cause the bp payed for itself, so now instead of investing $9.99 at the start and having bp forever you HAVE to spend $20 for bp every season.

If this happened in overwatch the players would not HESITATE to leave and kill the game, a lotta Apex players are too scared too leave
people are saying "but they gotta make money" and I agree, they do need to make money to support the game, and that's what collection events are for. The battlepass works like free drinks at a casino, the money they make off of it is small potatoes but those free drinks keep you at the casino longer, and that extra time you're spending there might entice you to play a few games of roulette or in this case, buy an heirloom, because you gotta play the season out to finish the battlepass and every minute you're playing the game is a minute you're likelier to buy out a collection event
I don't like overwatches battlepass much myself but at least there are no 160$ events every season so you can kinda understand a little more why they don't just let you rebuy the battle pass every season
Thanks for spreading the word about how messed up the new Apex BP is but I wish you would go the extra step to either talk with an actual player or familiarize yourself first. Things like "the OW battle pass gives more coins" is debatable without context. The "200" and "400" Apex coins in the "Free track" refer to free coins for players who don't buy the BP at all and just play the game. The premium bundle (base BP) usually gave 1300 coins and the base BP price was 950. So almost everyone would buy the BP with IRL money once and then use most of the coins from the BP to buy the next season's BP. It was a great system that truthfully rewarded you for constantly playing the game and felt like a one-time investment granted you rewards for life. Now they've essentially made it a subscription service.
If people are dumb enough to spend hundreds on an heirloom they’ll be dumb enough to fall for this too
