If you live in a region where humans are not aggressive, it is likely worth the risk to approach them for the salt on their skin. Humans are known to always have plenty of salt, so they don't mind sharing.
Here in the States…prairie dogs can very likely carry The Plague. It’s transmitted by fleas found in rodent populations…I’d be weary to let a marmot lick me.
