Russia didn’t start antagonizing the west, the west antagonized Russia by pushing nato against Russia’s borders. You can argue the agreement to reunification of Germany in exchange not to expand nato eastward was never a formal agreement but you can’t argue that it was unnecessary and dangerous after Putin has been warning against it for 18 years but the US thumbed their noses at Putin and Ukraine is paying the price
