I think he’s trying to say you’re likely to progress in the World Cup due to you getting a few easier teams in the Group and maybe first few knockout rounds if you’re lucky where in Europe it’s more condensed like how we got an easy run in the last tournament is unlikely to happen in the Euro, he’s just completely useless at putting his point together 😂 (World Cup is harder to win btw just might get further if you get an easy run in)

tbf he was on the lines of saying that until Andy jumped in as usual with his 10 IQ deductions and dragged the conversation into a ridiculous place
If England win the Euros this year then their knockout path could easily be Portugal/France/Germany (last 16), Spain (QFs), Netherlands (SFs) and France/Belgium (Final) or something like that.
It's even more difficult if you're in Group F. If you're Portugal in Group F then your path to the title could be games against France, Germany, Hungary, England, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium.
When you consider England's world cup run included Panama, Tunisia, Colombia, Sweden... this Euros run looks far more difficult.

      England never gets easy runs.
England don’t have the reputation anymore of a giant footballing nation that gets easy runs. England lost to Iceland once, so that should have been evidence enough that we don’t get the right to think we have easy runs....
....unless you think teams likeTunisia (who were African nations champions),
Colombia (one of the strongest South American teams with some gifted players compared to England’s midfield at the time),
      Sweden ( always a 50/50 game),
Croatia (who had a stronger midfield on the night even though England has a strong record against them)
Belgium (both games were dead rubbers tbf)
England were 2nd youngest in average age and least experienced in caps
Easy??? This is why foreigners think we’re arrogant and love it when we lose.
Never easy. That team overachieved and deserves more credit than they get.

In general World Cup will have the best teams around the world but you will also get some really poor teams that you just need to turn up to win against like Trinidad & Tobago, Honduras, Jamaica, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Togo etc where in same cases some European giants miss out on the World Cup due to having a tough qualification group like Holland for example. England's 2018 World Cup group seriously you look and say OK no excuses get 6 points vs Tunisia and Panama, with European Belgium being the tricky one. Now for this Euro group England vs Croatia is a tricky one, Scotland being a rivalry plus recent form makes it a tricky one & Czechs having a good Euro and World Cup pedigree isn't a full gone conclusion although if England weren't to beat Czech Republic it would be a huge disappointment.

@@a.b8677 Thats just the nature of having 32 teams instead of 24, so competition is slightly more deluted, but replacing underperforming big european teams (like Netherlands & Italy last time) with Brazil, Argentina & Uruguay is almost always a better trade off competitively.
And if you compare 14th to 24th best UEFA teams that wouldnt make it to WC to Chile, Colombia from CONMEBOL, top 5 CAF teams & top 2 CONCACAF & AFC teams, its actually an upgrade.
Now you add a few more asian & american teams that kinda lower the standards, but even then teams like Iran, Australia, Saudi, Jamaica, etc. are just as much pushovers as any of the teams I mentioned before. And although I agree you're likely to cause trouble between european teams that have rivalries (England vs Scotland being perfect example), those other teams are also capable of creating upsets (remember Costa Rica in 2014).
And especially with group stage allowing 3rd place teams to progress too, I definitly believe World Cup is more competitive top to bottom...

@@bigbowss9817 Costa Rica did great but I have to say they were in a group with shitty England in 2014 😂😂 I'm mixed on it, I think to qualify out the group even with 3rd places with some it's not as easy as you think. All groups you can make a case for them qualifying for example look at Group F France, Portugal, Germany and even Hungary who are hugely underestimated. That group is mad. You would never get a group like that in World Cup so group stage in Euros is more difficult for me and I'd say to actually win the tournament I'd put them both equal. European teams have dominated World Cups for nearly 20 years now, Brazil and Argentina get mentioned becasue historically they were great. Let's be honest they are bang average now..

I mean obviously Group F is mad this year (and I agree, Hungary is probably the best 4th tier team in these Euros aswell), but you also have group C which is way worse than most World Cup groups. Teams like Wales, Scotland, Ukraine, Slovakia, etc. have real shot of making it past of group here, but they would never in World Cup even if they qualified.
And I dont disagree with Europe dominating South America in recent years (thats why Germany was the first european team to win there, while they have yet to have won in Europe), but with 13 qualifiers, all the best european teams are gonna be at World Cup. So the way I see it, its about whether mid to low tier european teams are any better than top tier of other confederations and I dont think thats the case, thats all...

Klobby had a point, he just wasn't making his argument very well. The deadwood sides in the Euros are arguably stronger than the likes of Panama, Tunisia, Costa Rica. The Euros tend to have stronger groups, but World Cups are harder to win from the QF's onwards with the South American sides in it. Just look at England's possible route to the QF's this year : Scotland, Czech Rep, Croatia and either Portugal or Germany. They had to beat Panama, Costa Rica and Colombia in 2018.

Ultimately the World Cup is harder to WIN, the short term of getting one round further because you drew Japan or Algeria shouldn’t be a point because when push comes to shove you have to beat the best and in the World Cup you have to overcome both South America and Europe. Greece and Denmark have won the Euro’s because some years the top European teams have a slump but in the World Cup you can’t fluke it since both the European top teams and south Americans won’t slump at the same time.

Quality of sides aside the World Cup is a longer tournament based on the number of games 8 if we make it to the final, compared to 7 in the Euros.
It is very unlikely that a side that consistently makes it into the Euros will miss out in the World Cup, other than Group J where Armenia sit on top instead of Germany, the table toppers of every other group Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, Belgium, Denmark, Turkey, Croatia and England are all nations which have regularly made it to the Euros, but it's far more difficult for an underdog to win the World Cup like Greece did it in Euro 2004, Ghana, South Korea, Croatia and Turkey came pretty close but failed, the 1998 World Cup final can be considered an upset in some people's opinions because Brazil were overwhelming favorites, however France had some world class players in there.

If we're talking about the old Euros format with just 16 teams then I agree. Not any more with the expansion and teams like Scotland, North Macedonia getting in. The old way you had 16 of the best teams in Europe. Just 4 groups! You could have a group containing France, Italy, Holland and Denmark... Then when you get out of that group get hit with Germany in the Quarter-Final. You don't get that at the World Cup. You can have an easy group with an easy last 16 tie. Australia, USA anyone? You probably won't get a tough team until at least the Quarter-Final or Semi final...

Greece won it playing super defensively and Denmark come in cycles. They always have a player or two that can do some damage but I guess that year they had more than a player or two.
And the World Cup, the winners have been a selection of European teams or Brazil or Argentina (or Uruguay that one time).

The likelihood of getting to a competition is just as important as the likelihood of winning it. With the chances of a smaller nation getting to the Euros increasing then the chance of them winning it have to as well. Therefore making the Euros an easier competition.

Goldstein thinks ALL the other 20+ places go to Brazil & Argentina. That's 2 teams! What about Korea, Japan, China, Australia, Tunisia, Nigeria, Paraguay... those teams are not better than the Europeans.
