I have probably watched about 20 coffee videos on this subject tonight, and this is the best by a long shot (pun intended).
Thanks you very much. I feel the same way ;) but seriously I watched the other videos and got pretty bad info so thought I’d make a somewhat comprehensive video explaining it. Downside is some company’s don’t consider semi automatic and automatic a difference
One thing that I believe was left out is when using a non pressurized porta filter, the type of grinder being used is extremely important. The grinder is much more important than the espresso maker, because they would make or break the espresso shots. Unless in investing in a good quality grinder, it makes more sense in purchasing a superautomatic.
i searched up mannual vs semi automatic for a car and i got this video lol
Uhhhhh sorry but that’s really funny hahahahahahha
Love it
I appreciate the comparison. This is certainly flawed and biased toward the semi-auto machine at 07:00. You use a darkly colored opaque cup to compare to a translucent cup. The semi-auto may "win" if you're looking for a darker cup, but the super auto never had a chance.
Tnks, nice video. 😃
Thanks appreciate the compliment
Thank you for good video.
I must say that with my 10 years old Saeco professional ( fully automatic) I get thick and reach crema and fairly good espresso. Your settings on your automatic machine is bad, or that particular machine is something to avoid .
Ohhh this was just the setup the reason is that the grinder need to calibrate about ten to 12 cycles before it’s pumping out good espresso which good crema. But remember all super automatic machines use pressured portafilter systems so the crema is some what faux crema. Look up pressurized vs non pressurized portafilter a video showing it will be a better explanation
when you compared these 2 did you use the same amount of coffee? only difference is the included filter in the full automatic machine that makes the coffee taste weaker?
@@bram9498 yeah I tried to get as close as possible it’s kinda impossible to get the exact weight of grinds on the super automatic but I got as close as I could using a wet puck
@@JoeyVaracalli thanks, ok I think I understand why the non pressurized tastes stronger than the pressurized filter, because it uses the whole coffee substance as a filter. Are there full automatic machines that use non pressurized filters?, or maybe have an option to use them or not (perhaps in settings). (perhaps higher price range machines). And then the grinded coffe should also be adjustable in the full automatic machine. Iam searching for a machine that uses a non pressurized filter and still has a grinder etc built in.

@@bram9498 the only ones that do that are super super expensive commercial machines. Check out eversys in this video I made a while back ua-cam.com/video/AgSzqnoGPjQ/v-deo.html&si=8zp1MPt1tx-XueVL
@@JoeyVaracalli thx, I checked the video, it is indeed expensive. What about the Gaggia Accademia, does it use a pressurized filter? probable not then. Its work pressure is 15 bar though.
@@bram9498 don’t believe any machines that say 15bar you really never want to pull espresso shot at 9 bar at max 12
nice video ...!
Thank you. I thought a quick explanation would be nice. Espresso is confusing with terminology
Can you make the shot from super automatic stronger? I mean by programming it?
Great question. Some can go stronger then this like the delonghi esam 3300 if you watch my comparison video it shows the size difference in the puck. But really the only way to go stronger is to program smaller shots and do 2 of them the down side is that I think the coffee is being under extracted because the grinder isn’t going quite fine enough
Thanks for the reply. It sounds like super automatic is not really a big deal! Semi automatic is okay like the barista touch that I have.
Do you have a recommendation for a manual espresso machine? -i have an automatic machine but I would like an upgrade
Sure thing what’s your budget and do u want the grinder integrated
@@JoeyVaracalli The budget is somewhere between 450-630 euros. I think I would want the grinder integrated, if it is possible in this price range. :)
@@mp3311 I’d look at one of the two brevilles amzn.to/3IWNcFx pro or amzn.to/3ypLJT1
If you can keep the grinders separate I actually think going with a Breville bambino and a smart grinder is the best combo since you can upgrade either item down the road or if the pump break you don’t have to throw away a perfectly good grinder or vice versa
amzn.to/3oNWqLV
@@JoeyVaracalli thanks so much for the recommendations! Do you know anything about Rancilio Silvia, Gaggia Classic Pro, Lelit Anna or Lelit Anita? Which one would be best?
@@mp3311 yes I have a full review of the gaggia classic pro I tasted it a 7 out of ten. The lelit anna and Anita I think are better machines but they also cost more. The Anita is similiar but I have no idea how the built in grinder is. I would guess it’s pretty good knowing lelit they make pretty well made and thought out machines
Is there a difference between temperature and thermal stability?
They are kinda hand in hand you could say one is referencing water going on puck and the other is how well that temp is maintained in puck
Thanks! Why do super automatics always have pressurized baskets?
Mostly ease of use and the complexity of even tamping and distribution. If you get a commercial machine 10k plus those are not pressurized….. Starbucks uses a commercial style like that.
@@JoeyVaracalli thanks joe! I have a delonghi super automatic and a gaggia classic pro. I use the delonghi in the morning cause it’s so easy and gaggia for an early afternoon espresso. Prefer the taste of gaggia but I’d say they both have their place! I enjoy your channel!
@@johnf3668 yeah John I totally agree with you I’m not one to hate on one machine or the other I think both have there place and the time for when they are nice to use
I say fall in love with as many machines as you want and keep them all. Find a place!
I have so many at my house right now it’s taking over lol
I believe we will have real automated that taste like manual one day.
i previously though auto coffee makers superceed manual ones so much... now i have one, the trouble of washing the brew unit and finding coffee ground here and there inside the auto machine, makes me realise how much trouble one saves with manual machines....
@@nikeroy9018 yeah manual makes better as well if you use a non pressurized filter basket
We just need to see the cat at this point
Lol
