      Jamie, I buy used window screens at the habitat store, they are pretty cheap. Then I blast them with the hose to clean them up. I use them to cover seeds, held down by 2 bricks. They work like an incubator too and break up the rain drops into a mist so your seeds are not dislodged! Then I use them to dry herbs and plants, elevated on bricks. Just sandwich what your drying between 2 screens.

      I’m a animal lover but omg I hate the squirrels and rabbits. They love my yard. The 4 acorn trees in my yard don’t make it any better. My yard is a huge buffet for them. I’m always running outside screaming noooo. They just come right back when I’m back in the house. My husband counted 13 squirrels at one time. I want to give up on gardening 😭

      They are sneaky little imps, aren't they? I don't know if this will help with larger gardens, but it might. We actually had a pet squirrel a few years back that taught us this trick. Trying to find out what foods on the "safe for squirrels list" that Buddy would actually eat was as much like babysitting a toddler as you would assume! Stuff like tomatoes, he would nibble but didn't much care for, he would just put it down. The celery...oh, boy. He threw it clear across the kitchen after only a sniff! We made a juiced celery and water mixture (50-50) to spray around anything we didn't want the outdoor squirrels to eat, and it worked. We have the red squirrels here (the ones that look grey but are called red for some reason), so I don't know how well this will work with all species. A friend up north tried it with the black squirrels and he said it worked well to keep both the deer and squirrels out of his corn.

    Oyster mushrooms are really easy to regrow from stem too on aspen or oak wood shavings. The shavings must be hardwood not soft wood. The wood shavings a.k.a. substrate must be boiled for about two hours to sterilize it of any competitive microbes. Make a container with quarter inch holes for mushroom to grow out from and smaller drain holes on the bottom with micropore tape over them all to protect from contamination. make sure the container is sterile as well. Mix the substrate and mushroom stems or spawn and wait one month for the container to fully colonize, keep in a dark place while the mycelium is growing. Once fully colonized Expose the container to fresh air and indirect sunlight to trigger fruiting. Remove the micropore tape from the holes and watch mushrooms grow from it. Mushrooms like to be at 50 - 80 degrees F.

    I've started a few pineapple plants from tops, the way she shows in this video. What I didn't know until recently is that each top can be used to grow multiple plants. The top grows roots all the way around it. It can be cut into quarters and as long as each section has roots on it, it will grow into its own plant.

      @@blessisrael6455 I'm sorry, I didn't see this question until just now when the person below commented and I got a notification.
      I'm rooting the tops in glasses of water. Once the root system is developed, I put them in pots with unmodified indoor potting soil until the plant has developed and grown a good 6 inches or so.
      My plants are bigger than that right now, so I'm ready to put them in the ground outside, but I don't really want to do it yet with winter coming on, so I'm about to move them to bigger pots until spring.

      How do you replant the seeds?

    • @LearnToGrow1
      @LearnToGrow1  4 роки тому +2

      When you plant seeds, bury or cover them with twice the width of the seeds. For lettuce, they need some light to germinate so you can just pressed them down on the soil and keep it moist. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

    I have roots growing out of some old carrots in my refrigerator. The entire length of the carrot. I've noticed that if you buy carrots at the store, always buy the full-length ones, not the small, cut-up ones that come prewashed in those little bags. They'll last a lot longer and won't slime up on you. Instead, they'll dry out and grow roots.

    • @LearnToGrow1

      I agree! The ones not peeled are more flavorful too!

      I just went and bought organic carrots and they were rotten. I went back and found they were all rooted. Not good. I’m interested in growing carrots; how do you regrow them ?? Cut the head off ? So roots grow off carrot heads ??

      Hi no if you plant the top end of the carrot it will produce leaves you can eat and will eventually flower and produce seeds you can plant to grow carrots☺️🙏🏽

      That’s awesome! Did you plant the top part of the taproot with leaves? It may produce flowers and seeds for you! It’s a cold-hardy perennial (zones 2-9) so if it thrives you won’t have to plant it again. I planted parts of roots a few years ago, but unfortunately, they rotted, the soil didn’t drain well.

    Note: You cannot keep growing vegetables in the water forever. They will die if you see them getting light in color then get them in good dirt.
    You can only start them in water.
    And change the water once or twice a day.
    Also you can wrap onions in paper towels and keep wetting them.
    I actually have organic fruit n vegys and even squash seeds inside the squash that grows in the baskets or in the fridge without water too, LOL!
    My hubby retired and he was amazed at all the plants growing on the table in water. I have also just put them in the ground and kept them damp without putting them in water first and they have grown like that also. :)

      @LearnToGrow1  4 роки тому +7

      Hi Joyce, I root some in water then plant in the soil and some I plant directly in the soil. I fertilize the ones in pots every two weeks and in ground about once a month . I uploaded the update and some have flowers and seed pods. We should be getting free seeds this summer. That has happened to a pumpkin I grew one year, the seeds germinated inside the pumpkins! It’s true that one can grow plants hydroponically but that is a whole other venture, you need to have the right kinds of nutrients in the water. But yes, that could be an option, I suppose.
