- *Check out this new updated guide by Boof: • All IN One Hobbit Spee... *
This guide covers the full route for the Any% No Major Glitches category on PC.
This guide mainly focuses on the current "optimal" route and doesn't include alternate routes, but it does include some backups.
All of this was recorded in one take and serves and will most likely be replaced by a better guide down the line, but I did try my best to make this as clear as possible. Maybe I tried a little bit too hard and overexplained some stuff, hence the length. But that's better than explaining too little.
0:00 - Introduction and Fundamentals
5:10 - Dream World
8:35 - An Unexpected Party
11:00 - Roast Mutton
12:58 - Troll Hole
16:45 - Over Hill and Under Hill
42:35 - Riddles in the Dark
49:18 - Flies and Spiders
1:09:18 - Barrels out of Bond
1:18:00 - A Wam Welcome
1:26:40 - Inside Info
1:37:20 - The Gathering of the Clouds
1:41:28 - The Clouds Burst - Ігри
You making this guide drastically reduces the entry costs for learning and having fun with speedrunning the game thank you so much mkarma
Damn, thank you so much, I especially had problems with the wall skip in “over hill and under hill”. And in general, this whole video is actually extremely useful for beginning speedrunners, how good it is that professional speedrunners not only beat games quickly, but also teach others how to do it!
You got me addicted to this speed run man Update 09/06/22 my first legit run : min 52.22.62
..woke up to this playing on autoplay in the middle of the night.. dont even have this game, but man what a great & detailed tutorial you made for the ppl that do.. subbed
I would love to watch more content from you, I love the history of the hobbit video and thought it was very inspiring and really felt like a huge piece of history of speed running was recorded by a great recorder. I hope to see you always choose to be you and make what you enjoy.
I agree!
Thank you so much for this guide, me and my friends have been having so much fun casually speedrunning this game
Drawing on the screen made it way easier to follow. Good stuff
Can't wait for my first Run. Thank you so much dude :)
You've heard this a dozen times, but I'll add my name to it: this is tremendously useful. Thank you for making it! I was looking for a new speedgame, and my interest was piqued when the big video came out, but resources are almost more important in deciding on a game than the actual game is for me. lol This guide is a blessing!
Bro, thank you so much! The tutorial is superb, explanations, detail and all.
Fantastic guide, I see Boof has an up to date guide so I'll be following that but nevertheless great guide. And thanks for pointing me to Boofs newer guide.
Great tutorial, very easy to follow.
Going to start running Hobbit thanks to this.
Did it all for the first time all because of you man im a Hobbit runner now, much appreciated.
Hey all, Boof just released a new PC NMG video guide. I'd recommend watching that over this guide which is now a little outdated. Featuring setup and up to date strategies/routes all in one concise package. If you're thinking of starting or just got started with The Hobbit speedruns I'd highly recommend checking this out. Boof spent a lot of time on it and asked feedback from a lot of us so it should be very helpful.

Some parts are very helpful (especially the inside information one)!
Surprisingly, this game is actually quite easy to get into the speedrun for. I started on ps2 before realising nearly 75% of my gameplay was just loading, so I'll stick with PC at least until I can actually do the skips and stuff. This guide is definitely a great help, and I'm curious as to how many of these tricks work on the ps2 version (Not many of the newer ones I expect.)
A lot of the skips do work on PS2 but have very different setups because of the different control scheme. Most of the walking through walls type of clips are PC exclusive though. If you want to you can have a look at the a GameCube run, that route will be close to what you would run on PS2.
probably the best video in history. deserves more views
nice "quick" guide!
I probably will pick up this game, after I'm done with sm64 :0
Fantastic guide
Great tutorial thank you MoistCr1tikal for introducing me to this great game
This guy is the bob ross of hobbit speedruns
Awesome guide, thank you! Could you tell me, where can I get the developer mode for the game?
The developer tools are actually coded into the game but they are disabled by default. To enable them you're going to need a memory editor (like cheat engine) and change the value at memory address 7600e8 to 1.
If you want some help with that feel free to ask in the hobbit speedrunning discord: discord.gg/uHRANWgUYZ
much love
This really does feel like the "new" Ocarina of Time or Super Mario 64 to me
good video, but the heck was that door skip strat, was this before wiggle clip?
hey, ive been interested in this run since watching the "underrated speedrun" video but never actually tried it until seeing charlie run it and how beginner friendly it was. the video quality is great and i appreciate the depth but i just have a question. what do you think the realistically shortest time you can get with this strat is? i really wanna hone in on this route before i move on to more advanced runs so i wanna create a goal to shoot for first. thank you!
Heya, the route in this guide is probably only ~30 seconds slower than the optimal route (since the route featured here was pretty much optimal at the time of recording), so you could realistically get around 13 minutes before really having to switch strats. However I think a good point to start looking into new strategies is around the 15 minute mark.
Just a simple question sir. Is there a way of doing a speedrun using a controller? I'm trying to do so and the right stick doesnt even move the camera plus there's a glitch that whenever I tap the left stick to any direction, it moves wherever it pleases. Is there any fix or is it my controller's fault?
Controller on the PC version is really poorly supported, it doesn't get much better than what you just described. If you want to stick to controller I'd recommend getting or emulating the gamecube version instead.
I've been wanting to start speed running and feel like this would be a good start but I cant find anywhere to download it, where should I download it?
nevermind i clicked your channel and found out :p
I gave up on lake town. I’ll try again some other time 😅
is there a way to get to the real final level from the dream world level? are they connected in any way
Unfortunately not, they are completely separate maps with a lot of geometry copied over, but unfortunately not including the triggers we'd need.
@@MKarma oh ok that stinks
Is there a reason why you and most other speedrunners play the game in 4:3 ratio? I was wondering since it's no problem to play the game in 16:9 on Pc.
There's 3 possible reasons (all apply for me)
1. They can be used to it from playing console
2. They like it to leave room for splits on their stream layout
3. Some visual setups use the edges of the screen as reference and they change by going widescreen
@@MKarma Ahh, makes sense. Thanks for the reply!
How do you move your camera up and down
Hold caps lock and move the mouse up and down
What is the recommended mouse DPI i should use?
Really doesn't matter much, turning in game is pretty limited in speed, until you move your mouse too fast anyway and it suddenly becomes uncontrollably fast
@@MKarma Oh okay, Thanks! One more thing, do i have to record my voice too? or just the game, game audio and livesplit?
@@rythic3638 just the game is enough
@@MKarma Thank you very much! See me on the leaderboard soon ;) (porbably top 50 haha)
@@rythic3638 looking forward to it haha
how did you get the game to look so good?
didn't really do anything other than up the resolution and in game graphics settings (everything except effects anyway)
I don't like barrels out of bond.... fuck that tree XD
yup i fuckin hate that tree...
everyone hates the tree
@@MKarma I very much understand why 🤣
Ngl Flies and Spiders makes no sense to me but maybe I'm just not made for this
Honestly since this was a makeshift guide the route isn't very beginner friendly. It might be better to look at something like Chrixiam's GameCube personal best and copy the route from there instead. Don't be afraid to ask for help in the discord: discord.gg/uHRANWgUYZ
Quick 2hrs
Haha yeah I went a little more in depth on some stuff than I thought I would or maybe than what was needed.
i play on xbox
Then you should check out Chrix's console guide hobbitspeedruns.com/guides/any-percent-nmg-console-chrixiam/introduction
